I did the math...
OMG, I did the math and I don't know whether to be proud of myself or scared $h!tless at my obsessive compulsize tendencies. On September first, after having surgery, I weighed in at 189 lbs, seven weeks later I am 167 lbs for a total loss of 22 lbs, or 3.1 lbs a week. And for at least two weeks I was stalled out at 174. Is this an unhealthy rate of weight loss? I've had a few days where I've been under calories and I work out a lot so I don't know if I'm hurting myself or what?
How many calories are you usually eating?
It's not the worst you could do, but not the healtiest. Losing/gaining weight too fast affects your heart, cardiovascular, and can cause loose skin. Might want to slow it down to 2/week.
I'm also curious about what you're doing - if your eating too little you could be loosing muscle instead of fat. |
between 1300 and 1500 depending on the day. For a while I was as low as 1100-1300 but I upped them around mid september when I started working out more.
How much do you work out?
I would guess 1300 or 1400 is too low for you. I am also at 167 (though I'm taller) and I am eating 1500 per day and losing a pound a week.
when I'm feeling well 75 minutes of cardio 3-4 days a week and strength training 2 days a week. I've been sick for the last week though so I haven't worked out at all and that somehow broke my platau and I lost several lbs like lightening.
Thats quite a bit of activity for what you're eating. I would go up. 1500.
I've got to be the only person on earth that would complain about losing weight too fast...LOL!

Hehe. It is quite ironic huh :)
I would definitely increase the calories a bit. Honestly though as long your aren't feeling worn out and your lifting weights and getting enough protein I wouldn't be tooo worried. But come on, an excuse to eat MORE? Who wouldn't want that? ;) |
I know! I keep telling myself "you can eat more" but then I get nervous that I won't see a loss if I eat more...its a vicious cycle I tell ya!
Ghost- I'm so jealous!!! :)
I'm so sorry about complaining about this on here when there are people who would LOVE to have lost like that. I feel shame *hangs head* It just seems like I've got control issues that I havet to let up on. I'm not feeling overworked or deprived, but maybe I'm deluding myself into not feeling that way.

What did you have surgery for? If it was weight loss surgery then I think that is to be expected. If it was another surgery that might effect your digestive system, such as gallbladder removal that also might be expected (I lost weight really fast after my gallbadder was removed because I couldn't digest food properly). If the surgery was totally unrelated then it might be problematic because something might be off and you might want to consult with your doctor.

I just had my tubes tied. Nothing major. And, for some reason, I feel like I eat all the dang time! except for in the morning I am eating about every three hours. Really, some days I feel like a pig, add it all up and it can get as high as 1800...a few 2000 calorie days. And then some binges too. Not like I'm perfect or anything. I guess the high days balance out. Do you think tube tying can upset hormones enough for that?

Hey! I can completely relate to your post; I've been worried about something similar with myself... If you do the math for my weight loss (which I guess anyone can do, since all the info is in my sig LOL), it figures to about 3.8 lbs/wk... Actually, it used to figure to about 4 lbs/wk until this week, when I gained 2 lbs for no reason and haven't lost them yet (*grumble grumble*). But no, all joking aside, I've been a little worried about it, too. One the one hand, I'm like **** yeah, I'm losing weight quickly, good for me! but on the other hand I wonder if I might be doing something unhealthy, and that's what's making me lose so quickly. Yet I feel totally fine - completely nourished and not overexerting myself at all - so it doesn't seem there's anything about my routine that I should change... Grr so frustrating! But I just figure that it'll probably taper off eventually as I get closer to goal (in fact, maybe that's why I lost almost nothing this week?) so I'm not too stressed about it. But there's nothing wrong with worrying about losing TOO quickly... It's definitely a legitimate concern!
