Nope, dried fruit is good for you. But, it's very calorie dense - a serving of dried fruit is usually 1/4 cup, that's really small. Another option is freeze dried fruit which is usually fewer calories.

For portion control I like the fruit leather. It's 100% fruit and each strip is only 45 calories. I get mine at costco so its really cheap per piece, especially for when fruit's not in season.

if I eat dried fruit I carefully watch the portion. Although, those gerber graduates dried apples are fab and pretty decent on the calories and sugar. I also like mission figs (keeps the old digestive beast happy), I usually eat at least one of those a day (about 28 calories each).

As long as the dried fruit is just fruit and doesn't have added sugars then I'd say go for it! Like anything else, just watch your portions.

I loove dried fruit. I only buy the no sugar added kind though, and as others have already mentioned, it's easy to eat too much of it so you gotta watch how much you eat.. I know some people who dry fruits themselves so they can have a better idea of how much they're eating and have more control over their portions.

Default Dried fruit is good...

Just make sure you look at the nutrition facts on it. A lot of people are surprised to find that it really doesn't have much in the way of nutritional value.

The drying/dehydrating process tends to break down the vitamins found in fresh fruit, so it's very common that dried fruit will have no vitamin c, a, b, iron, or much of anything useful left in it.

It is good if you're tired and just need a quick carb boost, or a mid-day energy boost *supplemental* to a small snack but other than that a piece of fresh fruit would do you best being that its readily available.

Hubby and I are avid backpackers and it's commonly spouted in the survival enthusiast community that dried fruit is only really good for survival rations since it's light and doesn't rot. It's considered more like candy as opposed to actual food.

The dried fruit is healthier, especially if not with added sugar (many do), but the portions aren't going to be any larger than you would have with a treat.

Oh, I love dried figs but I cannot keep them in the house. Same goes for prunes. I tend to binge on them because they're so yummy, sweet, and juicy.

FREEZE-dried fruit is great! Very low in calories-- like 25-30 for a 1/2 cup!!!
I will admit to buying the Gerber baby food bags of them for toddlers. They have apple, pineapple, strawberry and banana. Yum!!
