Skinney Mate

  • I did a quick search on this subject and I couldn't find anything, so I am sorry if there is another thread out there for this.

My husband is tiny! He comes from a family of 13 siblings who are all tiny (he is the tallest person @ 5'7"). He weighs about 144lbs. I don't see trying to subject him to my diet, that would only make him smaller. He is an avid bike rider, which is why he is in great shape.

Anyway, what can I do. He is the kind of person that if I don't feed him, he wont eat. Before we married, he would go days without eating anything, was never that important. If i make something for dinner, I give him 2/3 to my 1/3, but he doesn't eat it all, says he will eat it later and then we throw it away. This is my biggest problem losing weight, wasting food.

Is there anything I can do about this. Like I said, if we are on the same diet, he is going to end up a bean pole. I thought about him making his food and me making my food, but I know he just wont eat!

    HELP
  • Wow, I thought I was the only one........

My boyfriend is like six three and weighs like 140 pounds. It makes me feel like a huge blob even being beside him. And he is the same way, if I don't make him eat, he just won't. And he rides his bike all the time.....

I try to make the things I make him as fattening as possible. I'm vegan and he is only vegetarian, so I'll make something, then on his portion, cover it in butter. And when I grocery shop I'll buy him all kinds of like chips and snack cakes and stuff, and when he's laying there watching TV I'll be like "Eat this or I'm breaking up with you." The only way that I can avoid eating this stuff and having it in my house is making sure whatever fattening crap I buy him is not vegan, so then I can't eat it.

Sometimes, I'll make him a completely different meal for dinner if the one I'm having is "too healthy". Or I'll run through like McDonalds or something on my way home from work and get a large fry, and bring it home and be like "here, this is a pre-dinner snack, dip it in as much ranch dressing as you possibly can." I have to do these things, otherwise he would be on the exact eating plan as me and end up shriveling up and floating away.
  • Ok, I just read my post and...yeah not really the help you were looking for. I kinda went off onto my own little rant. I have no help to offer...sorry!
  • i dont really know what you can do. You can tell him that you are concerned and think he should eat more. But he's an adult, we all have to be responsible for our own eating
  • make smaller portions....
  • ok... i know this might not helpful but ...

my bf used to be the same, if i don't make him food, he won't eat.
And so, i decided that, if he won't eat, i won't either. That's a bit extreme i know, but i think i had to make him realize it's not good for health.
And so, me and him went not eating for 2 days. He was surprised and asked "why you didn't eat" and i was like "because you don't want to, so i don't either".
In the end, he was too concern about my health problem (i used to have ED, and stomach problem, and breathing problem etc...) and so he decided that im too stubborn and he needed to change himself to make me eat and stay healthy.

And so...that has been helpful. Lol. I know ... i know... it's not good way to make him eat... but i myself don't know any other ways as well Sigh
  • You know Annita, that is not a bad idea. I have had to do that with other things (cleaning, money), I think food might be the next logical step!

DaraMarie - has your BF ever mentioned bike riding to you. My husband does all the time (we only have 1 bike though). I don't think it's my cup of tea, but I was curious if you ever tried.
  • my bf is this as well and my current goal is to weigh less than him (we alternated by a few pounds usually).
He def. does not have a problem not eating though-he eats nonstop and is an excellent chef...but more to the point was the bike-riding portion.
He's training to ride 100 mile bike ride for team-in-training and wanted me to start riding with him. I do some but head's up...it is not for everyone! Your bum will hurt...a lot! If you want to see if you think you could do it...I recommend a spin class or gym bike and try to do 10-20 miles on it. It is good exercise though and the more you do it the better it gets!
  • That's funny, my husband is doing a 2 day bike trip in October, it's going to be 180 miles total, 100 miles the first day. He has been working up to 100 miles every weekend, so far he has gone 75 before he does something stupid, like hit a curb and blow a tire or see if he can jump the pit hole and he ends up hurting himself. When he makes this trip, I will be in the car.
We used to have an indoor bike trainer, using a real bike and then it just spins in place. I used to use that, but it wasn't so much my butt hurting, as it was boring and the way it had to fit into our apartment, it look straight into the kitchen. I tried using with an mp3 player, so luck. Finally it was warm and my husband took it outside and I haven't been on since.
I am scared of a spinning class. The last time I though about joining a gym and took a tour, everyone was really in shape. I know gyms are for everyone, but group oversize to me is like everyone watching you go to the bathroom
  • I definitely understand about the workout in a group thing...wearing spandex no less because I refuse not to wear my padded bike shorts, which I love!!
We ended up getting an extra bike so that we could both ride (at least that's what he likes to say...he really just wanted to add something else to his collection of 2-wheeled objects ) I don't ride with him often, but when I do I feel good...and with the benefit of living in South Florida...at least half the time I can see the ocean
  • Oh Florida. I hope your fairing well with all the bad weather. Here in Maine we started a cold snap on Monday. My husband said it has been too cold to ride his bike. I hated to inform him that it's going to be much colder when he takes this ride at the end of October. We have 2 bikes, but only 1 set of tires (must be a boy thing). He said he would by me a bike, and I know I would feel bad if I didn't use it, but I think he used the money to buy more bike stuff for him.:-)

I think about Yoga and I think about taking classes, but my last experiance was bad. i took a "beginners" pilates class a couple years ago and I was the only person who had never done pilates before, the other people there had been going for almost a year and took many different classes. They were not beginners. I went on the first day off class. I could not believe what was going on. I ended up leaving in tears after about 30 minutes. This is also why I do not do group exersize. I had put this out of my mind until now.
  • Go biking with him.
You need to start cooking smaller portions. Overfeeding him isn't going to cause him to gain weight in a healthy way. You, like all of us, know that overeating is not a solution to anything. He's accepted you as you are, so why can't you do the same for him? You fell in love with him for something other than just the way he looks, so who cares if he's thin? Cook healthy meals, tell him if you're concerned he's not eating enough, but don't try to force feed him. He sounds fine. You keep doing what you're doing, he'll stay the same, and sure enough sooner or later you'll be at a happy medium.

As for the biking, you need to go with him!!!!!!!!!! It will be the most rewarding thing you do! You don't have to get a race bike, get something you will like. Micargi makes great cruisers designed just for women. I crashed the old $30 20-speed trail/road hybrid that I bought from the salvation army and had to buy a new one. I decided to get a cruiser since i'm not much into racing and I wanted a cute bike that was comfortable and smooth to ride. I took my old seat off, but was pleasantly surprised to find out that I didn't need it with my new Micargi! They already have a wide, super soft ergonomically designed gel seat that comes with it and it's better than the $130 gel seat that I bought!

I do the 30 mile Richmond Battlefield ride every weekend, or go ride the paved trails at Pony Falls. I take a picnic lunch in my rear basket and sit out on a rock with my feet in the James river drinking champagne and eating strawberries all afternoon, it's wonderful.

And you do not have to wear the dumb biking outfits or the ugly helmets. I work 9 miles away and ride my bike if it's not raining. I wear pantsuits, high heels, big sunglasses, and carry a Marc Jacobs bag. You can be super cute and still be green and fit baby, oh yeah.

    See the supercute?
  • I guess you have to do what you have to do. I need to suck it up and get my big butt on the bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also live close to work, so I guess next spring, it's riding the bike for me

Your right, when we met, I was always bigger than him and we like each other the way we are now (i just want my butt and gutt to get a little smaller)
