Kaplods -

It's a societal issue. Easy and fast...with no consideration for quality. You almost have to check OUT of society completely to be a successful maintainer, because people just don't get that weight loss and maintenance is not easy or fast...it'll require time and effort and our gut reaction as a society to things that require time and effort is "I don't have time, I can't make the effort".

"Checking out of society," you've read my mind. I have been trying to put this feeling into words for months now. ALL of my life I have been trying to fit INTO a society that sees me as a freak. But, it was trying to fit into society, that I fully swallowed "the party line" as to what losing weight was supposed to be.

When I embraced my exclusion from mainstream society, and started thinking outside the box that society (and as a result I) was constantly trying to put me into, I finally was able to customize this for myself. I had to unlearn years and years of misinformation, and had to redefine success, and ignore the fact that my success may not be mainstream, but mainstream hasn't helped me much during the last 36 years, so what can it hurt to do things "my way."

I think that customization really is key to losing and maintaining. It doesn't matter what works for anyone but you. That being said, I think that a basic understanding of nutrition is a good starting point. By finding what works for you, I don't mean that someone should say "what works for me is only eating citrus fruit."
