Thumbs down Periods Suck

Hey everyone-

I am in a pretty PMS-y mood right now. I am sitting at work and I am Fat Smashing away. I decided to start this diet (The Fat Smash Diet) on Friday, and so far I feel very clean and good. However, they tell you not to weigh yourself until the first 9 days of Detox is up... I know I jumped the gun but I weighed myself on day 3. I was pretty disappointed... no weight loss.

Sigh anyway, I know it was early on in the program, and I cheated by weighing myself, but it's so frustrating. I know that most women gain weight during their TOM but I was wondering- when does the weight gain and water retention happen for you? I feel like the scale isn't budging at all and I am sticking to the diet and not straying at all. I mean I can even drop a pound? Ugh. Come on!

Anyway I am also on Ortho TriCyclen Lo. I have been on it for 5 yrs and I have noticed that (this might be too much info, so stop reading now), that exactly one week before my TOM, I am very constipated. I feel like it's bc my body thinks it's pregnant, therefore it holds onto all water and all food as a way to say "We're ready for the baby!!!" And then a day or two before my period it figures out that I am not really preggers and then I feel what seems like some depression.

I am so stuck in a mental and physical rut this past week, I just want to not feel so crappy. Does anyone else have food/water/ retaining, birth control issues? How does your TOM affect your weight loss?

I have a similar problem. For a week every month I have problems sticking to the program. I condition myself into thinking "this is just a crappy few days which will be over by this time next week", and just grit my teeth and hold on through it.

Another thing I do is give myself a non-food treat toward the end of the PMS time (movie, even a day off if you can do it). This gives you something to look forward to, and a reward for sticking it out. Hang in there!

....deedee....

On the tmi topic (so if you stopped reading Nicky's do the same here)

I seem to have a similarly confused baby-ready body. My weight seems to creep up or at least hold about a week before my period - sometimes as much as a week and a half to two weeks. Then, a few days before I start it just goes whoosh!

I've always heard other people say they gain DURING their period, but I seem to gain before. Ya know, 'cause that way I go straight from being crabby about the scale to weepy and crabby from my period. Its nice that way

Anyway, hang in there - don't beat yourself up on cheating on the scale. Rules that stringent just look like challenges to me! Just stay op as best you can!

I have horrible PMS. Im prolly the meanest person you will meet. Usually a few days before/when my TOM actually starts i gain up to 7lbs!!!! Ugh its usually gone by the next week though buts its so aggrivating. Just keep on your eating plan and weigh in on your scheduled WI day. *Keeping my finger crossed for you*

I HAVE AN AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!

Holy MAMA I'm dying right now!! I weighed myself yesterday (knew I shouldn't have because of TOM) and was up 5 lbs, which made me feel really gross...and I also felt like my pants were SUPER tight today. I'm still getting used to my natural body...uhhh...function... just because I was on BC for about 2 years. Now that I'm not, I still don't quite know how to realize the difference between being tired/having a crappy day and the all-encompassing poopy feeling that comes with pre-period me.

So I'm actually feeling okay today, because, hey, at least tight pants and feeling farty means I'm not pregnant!! And, like others, I feel it before -- during I feel absolutely fine!!!! Can't WAIT till that part starts in a few days, ha!

I gain anywhere from 2-8 lbs in the week or so leading up to my TOM, and my body hold onto it until Aunt Scarlett goes away. Then the weight typically drops off within a few days.

I've also noticed that in the week leading up to my TOM everything seems a bit harder: Keeping myself motivated to work-out, and actually doing the work-outs seems harder. I'm just tired and feel out-of-sorts. I also hear fatty food calling to me louder than ever!

But once I realize what's going on I can usually just grit my way through it, knowing that all those feelings will go away in about a week.

AppleCheeks -- It's so true....once I say to myself "THIS IS JUST TOM TALKING!!" it all gets better. It's way easier to motivate myself once I know it's just my body losing motivation and not actually ME!

thanks ladies. I think I am out of the woods today in terms of feeling moody. Now I feel so much more back to normal. I dont know what it is but a two days before my period I am just the world's moodiest B!

Anyhoo I am holding on tight. Sunday/Monday I will weigh myself... sigh. Thanks for being so reassuring everyone. Now I know I am not the only person who holds onto 5,6,7,8 lbs when she is going to get her . <----

Ha Ha.

Well here's hoping this fat smash diet works. Also, I think this was a good learning lesson. It means that a month from now I should expect to not really go anywhere weight wise when my TOM is due.

I haven't weighed myself in a while (I'm not going to weigh until AFTER my wedding in October... until then I will just go by how my clothes fit and how I appear), but I get *SO* bloated a full week before my period actually comes, and then I stay bloated the first three days of it and gradually deflate so by the time it's over, I am back to normal.

I wouldn't even DARE to approach the scale around my TOM... oh no no... I'd leap off a building for sure if I did that...

Ugh yeah I'm on mine right now. I'm the worst mood ever.
I can tell when I'm ovulating which is always around the same time, about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks before my period, and that's also when I retain water..
But that goes away after a few days, then I start losing again.. but once I'm on my period, I start to retain water again, and I drink tons of water but still...

The 21st marks a month since I started the program and I want to weigh myself then but at the rate I'm going at, I doubt I should even dare weigh myself. I'm thinking about just weighing myself on Tuesday (end of the week for me). I'm in such a bad mood right now.. ugh. I get really cranky, irritated, and tired when I'm on it. Grr. lol
