Default nubness in limbs during workouts

So... like I said I now have an elliptical. I havent really "worked out" in a long time. I've started trying to tone up my arms and I go on long walks and stuff...
Anyway... I jumped on the elliptical today and after about 10 minutes, I couldn't feel my toes. They were completely numb. The sensation slowly crept up my foot until I almost entirely lost feel in both of my feet completely.

Anyone experience anything like this? Could it be something serious or just a reminder Im horribly out of shape?!

I've had that somewhat from my toes pressing up against the front of the elliptical pedals. Try to keep them in the center of the pedal, but if you get any numbness, get off the machine and take a break!

I don't think it has anything to do with your fitness level. Just to cover our bases though, if it's not that your toes are pressing, of if you experience this at any other times of the day, you should see your doctor.

This happens to me everytime i get on the bike or elliptical. I talked to one of the trainers at my gym and she said it is because your feet arent getting very much circulation. If you get too numb try pedaling backwards for a minute or so to change up the circulation and it shouls get better. Its nothing to worry about unless it gets super painful

I've had this happen to me every time I'm on the eliptical. I always try to make sure my feed are right in the center of the pedals and that they are not cramed up to the front of my shoes.
I now use walking shoes when I work out. They help me as they are a bit tighter in certain spots and my foot won't slide around.

I agree that it's nothing really, take a break if it starts to get bad. Nothing worse than getting off one of those things when you can't feel your feet.

mine do it too. I'm glad you posted this, I was wondering but was too chicken to ask. I just get off and strut around the house for a second to get the blood back in my toes. I was afraid if I said anything someone was going to tell me that I couldn't eliptacise anymore and I would'a been peeved!

Me too. My toes starting going numb at the end of my workout. I wasn't too concerned until I got a new pair of running shoes and then my toes would go numb after 5 mins. Turns out I had my new shoes tied too tight. It didn't feel tight but I guess with those shoes they have to be loose. The backwards thing works for me!

Yeah it's mainly circulation.
Sometimes on the treadmill one of my arms goes numb! It used to freak me out but I asked someone at the gym and they said if it's happening occasionally then it's just bad circulation. Massaging the numb part helps.

My toes sometimes go numb when I'm jogging, so I just try to wiggle them in my shoes as I go along.

Happens to me too! I find it's usually if I'm putting too much weight on the ball of my foot which is typical when running on the elliptical.
