I ran a mile today...

...all the way through without stopping!

This is a huge feat for me. I used to run track and cross country in school, and the mere thought of attempting it again caused me to draw ragged breaths. And there were many of those throughout my attempt...instead of breathing in with two steps and out with two steps in a nice, runner's rhythm that I once had...it was like I was the sweaty, jiggly asthma poster child. I think one of the guys on the track was keeping an eye on me the entire time to make sure my lungs didn't accidentally exit my body. But I DID it. My mind was screaming for me to stop but I told it to stuff it. It was weird. I finished in 12 minutes.

By the way, I was surprised at how much HARDER running was than the elliptical...I can do an hour on that thing no problem! Maybe it's time I stepped up the program.

That's amazing! I don't think many people can run a mile! I could only run for a minute at a time when I started.

FREEEKING AWESOME! I couldn't run a block if I was being chased, LOL!

Real running is definitely harder than the elliptical, or the stair steppers, or any other form of cardio I've done. :D Congrats on your accomplishment!

dancingirl81 03-03-2008 11:25 PM

way to go, that's awesome!

WOW! I'm impressed!!!!! I definitely cannot do that (yet!) I think that's so fantastic :) Be PROUD!

Way to go!
Yes running is definitely harder. I figure it has to do with pushing yourself off the ground without any help...I can run a mile on the treadmill, but I'm pretty sure I'd be huffing and puffing if you put me outside.

Congrats on the mile! That is an awesome accomplishment!!!

carolineintx 03-04-2008 09:49 AM

that is seriously awesome. God, I can't remember the last time I ran...and I really don't think I could ever run a whole mile. I remember the 'fitness test' they'd do in school every year...I'd ace the sit and reach, make short work of the sit-ups, fail miserably on the pull ups and the mile. You've inspired me, I think this week instead of taking my bike out on the trail I live by I'm going to go out there and try running for a change, its been too long.

congrats and thanks for inspiring me! :)

That's fantastic! :carrot: I don't even remember the last time I ran a mile, probably back in high school. I tried running some last summer and could never get the breathing thing down and would feel like collapsing after 30 seconds!

dandk0204 03-04-2008 11:32 AM

Wow!! Congrats on the mile, you should feel so proud of yourself. I could probably run for about 3 minutes and then I would be on the ground dieing lol. Keep up the good work!

You rock! I want to be able to run a mile! I probably can't run 1/4 of a mile! LOL!! I am so impressed with that!

iriswhispers 03-04-2008 12:02 PM

rock on!!!

i've also noticed that the elliptical feels much easier than running. i am trying to get back into running as well - so thanks for the inspiration and keep running!

Running a mile is a great accomplishment - you should be very proud of yourself!
