Starting Diet-to-go and Alli today

  • Hi,
Im Sara from Tallahassee, FL if anyone wants to Diet-to-go buddies with me that would be great!

So Im starting Alli today..its suppose be this pill that doesnt let 25% of your food get digested. Im eager to see the side effects I'm also starting Diet-to-go today. I read on here they taste much better than Nutrisystem.

Wish me good luck with my 25lbs weight loss!!

  • I have heard of alli from the tv. Sounds interesting and I will be looking forward to your updates.
  • Welcome...welcome...

Good luck on your plan. I am too chicken to try alli, but please keep us update and let us know how the "side effects" are.
  • Just to clarify - Alli prevents 25% of the FAT you eat from being digested, not the food you eat. Diet-To-Go has low fat, low carb and vegetarian plans, but if you were on the 1600 calorie traditional plan, you'd get, max, about 40 g of fat per day. That means the Alli would be eliminating about 10 of those, or 90 calories per day, taking your 1600 calorie meal plan to 1510 calories a day.

That's very different from not digesting 25% of the FOOD (which would be 400 calories a day)

If you're on the Diet-To-Go Low Carb plan, the plans have between 80-100 grams of fat a day. Losing 25% of that means a loss of 25 fat grams a day (230 calories or so). I think, though, that 80-100 grams of fat would be enough to risk treatment effects on Alli.
  • Hey..I just signed up for Alli today. My diet starts on the 15th and I start taking the capsules on the 21st. I'm nervous & excited about it!!

    Good luck with it!!
  • Is the alli actually safe for your body? That sounds interesting.
  • Alli is supposed to be a similar to xenical. One side affect is errr...ummm...how do I say this...uncontrollable bowel movements, at times. So just be careful wherever you are and make sure you know where all the restrooms are located!!!
  • There's a thread for a group of Alli takers somewhere on the site.. I think under "general diet plans." So those ladies would be the best sources of info for those who are interested in what people who take it have to say.
  • Alli isnt suppose to involve the nervous system. It only works in your gut. So no rapid heart rate or anything lilke that. I have a heart defect and I recentally had a stroke..at age 26 ..go figure. So i read all the warnings on the box.
  • HAHAHA!! I just remembered a review I found when researching Alli about a lady who had on light colored jeans that ended up warning everyone about bright orange "accidents". I must've been really tired because at the time I couldn't stop laughing. But good luck to you! Let us know how it works for you!!
  • Actual Alli USER
    Hi guys----

I've been using Alli on and off for a couple months now. I can honestly say that there hasn't been any "Explosive" moments... but it definately changes the... hmmm... texture of bowel movements.

The worst problem I had was I was going camping last summer, had taken Alli for a week before, only with dinner... I took the last one the day before we left. I got a whopper and fries on the drive to the campground... and for the next THREE or FOUR days (mind you, not taking Alli at the time) I would have very loose bowels and there would be lots of "oil" floating on the top of the water.

Yucky, I know. But there's no nice way around it.

If I eat a fatty meal, I can definately see the fat floating on top. But, hey, at least I know it's working, right?

If I eat clean and stick to my diet, I don't notice much of a change besides slightly mushier bowel movements.

Plus, before Alli I got a longer warning that a bowel movement is getting close--- now they happen a lot faster and with less warning. Not like I'm gonna poop myself... just a little less warning. On Alli, even with "slipups" occasionally with my diet, I've never had a bathroom emergency any worse than when I would go to an all-you-can-eat buffet when I'm not dieting and have the after effects after that.

Honestly. If you're going to follow a good diet, why not get an extra 25% of your fat cut out as well? I don't like living on pills or chemicals, so I only use the Alli pill with dinner. Just b/c I don't like the idea of it, but I like the bonus of it.

Oh, and One more thing: I don't ever Fart for fear of something happening. Just to be on the safe side. lol

Just to reiterate what Mandalinn is saying. On the low carb plan you'd be considerable over the recommended amount of fat grams a day and could expect some pretty unpleasant effects.

Also to clarify Alli is the same drug as Xenical (Orlistat) but half the dose.

  • I just started taking my Alli pills today and so far so good... goodluck

ROFL.... I appreciate your candor, it made my morning. That's too funny!
  • Back in the summer of last year, I took Alli for about two weeks. I lost weight both weeks, but it wasn't any more than I had lost with regular healthy eating and exercise. I decided that it wasn't worth it for me to spend so much money on the pills when I knew I could do it on my own. The only thing I took from the Alli program that has continued to help me is knowledge of fat grams. Before, I just tracked calories, but I'm tracking fat grams now as well. I think it has made a difference in my ability to lose lately.

As for the "treatment effects", I didn't experience any. I may not have been on it long enough to notice any changes, but things seemed the same for me. It was as if I wasn't taking the pills even if I was taking one with each meal.

At any rate, good luck with your new healthy lifestyle, and I hope Alli works for you!
