Let's Talk Jeans.......

Hey! :) I totally posted this thread a long while back and there are so many new faces that I thought I'd ask again.

Jeans--- What brand do you find fits well on you/ for your body type??

I have no butt, (going to have in several weeks) thinn-er legs, no hips but high set hip bones (that occasionally look like a naughty bit of fat popping out of the side of my pants). Ergh. I exhausted Gap and Old Navy and am racking my brain thinking of where I can find a great pair of jeans now that I am pretty much not shrinking anymore. :D

wisher 05-08-2007 09:27 PM

Well, my jeans probably won't help your much because it sounds like we have totally different body types, I have large thighs and hips, an ample butt and a smaller waist, so my trouble is finding jeans that are big enough for my legs to not look like sausages and not have huge gaps in the waist. Right now my favorite jeans are Levi's, it's tough to say the exact style because the tag just says "Levi Strauss Signature" but when I bought them the description at the jeans display said sits just below the natural waist, close fit through hip and thigh, bootcut.

maryblu 05-08-2007 09:29 PM

Bless you for asking, because my body-type, too, is SOOOO ignored and unrepresented in jeans. I have a boy's body. Thick waist and heavier on top, no butt, no hips, and thin legs. I for sure look for jeans with back pocket flaps, and low rise in the waist. Calvin Klein used to do a "boy fit" that was good, but haven't found in a while....help!!!!

nomorefatpants 05-08-2007 10:07 PM

If you're willing to spend a little more money I'd recommend AG jeans. The Angel cut is especially flattering.

redlight 05-08-2007 10:11 PM

Angel cut is good for which body type?

KCWMU 05-08-2007 10:32 PM

I'm a big fan of American Eagle jeans... but then again I worked there for 5 years so I'm somewhat biased! =)

kornard 05-08-2007 11:02 PM

My favorite jeans are PZI they are made for women who have a little extra "junk in the trunk" I don't even need a belt, my main problen with jeans is that there's always this gap in the back, but thee fir perfectly, but the main problem for me is the $75-$90 dollar price tag.

lilybelle 05-08-2007 11:13 PM

I buy mainly the American Eagle medium rise jeans. They seem to fit best on my slender hips and legs. The lower rise Levi's work well too. I have a couple pr. of jeans from JC Penney's (Vigoss brand) and they also fit well. The Aeropostale jeans seem to run really big so I use a smaller size in these than in any others.

nomorefatpants 05-08-2007 11:21 PM

Redlight...
From what I've seen on my friends with various body types the Angel is flattering on most body types. I remeber Oprah on her jeans episode loving the AG Club cut. I didn't try those on but I may when I decide to invest in a new pair of jeans. I think the Angel is better for people with less of a butt, it makes you look like you have one (amazing) if you already have one it's still super flattering but maybe Club would be better for that, I wouldn't know though b/c I've only tried on the Angels and I LOVE them.

KnitALisa 05-08-2007 11:32 PM

Ugh. Stupid jeans. Right now my 1 pair are Lands End 16w. I have the worst time finding jeans/pants because my butt is sooo much bigger than my waist and I'm short. The crotches on some of these pants will be almost at my knees! Drives. Me. Crazy. The only thing that gives me hope is the many pairs of jeans in 14 and 12 that I have awaiting me.

mamaplots 05-08-2007 11:47 PM

Right now, I'm wearing Levis, and a pair of Tilt, you can buy at Pacific Sunwear. But my favorite jeans from pre-baby days, were my American Eagles, and my Calvin Kleins!! I will wear them again!!

Thanks. I'll look for them. I've got a little less butt than most people my size, but not out of the ordinary.

CookieMonster416 05-09-2007 10:18 AM

I have a gut (especially under the bellybutton), but very thin legs. My FAVORITE jeans are Lucky Midrise. They are amazing!!! They are tighter around my legs, but looser on top and go all the way up to my belly button so that it hides my gut. I swear they are fabulous.

SavingServo 05-09-2007 11:13 AM

Right now I have a $12 pair of Mossimo (is that how you spell that?) brand jeans. My biggest problem with jeans is my height as well. Other than a low small butt I normally don't have too much of a problem with boot cut, although I often get a gap in back too.

Su-Bee 05-09-2007 11:18 AM

My biggest problem is that I have trouble finding jeans, and pants in general, that are the right length in the leg. Regular length is too short & long length is too long. I also have a flat butt & slim hips. Old Navy makes me look better in the bum/hip area, but they are rarely long enough. I haven't found a specific brand that always works, and most of the jeans I have right now are off-brand.

janamonkey 05-09-2007 01:02 PM

My favorite favorite jeans are from express. I am a total apple shape and the rise is perfect on their W31 jeans. Love them.

shrinkingchica 05-09-2007 01:54 PM

Wow! You girlies have come up with some great information and fabulous suggestions! :) Thanks!! :D
I think I might try the AE jeans, but, I always feel about 10 years too old to shop there so I never even think about it (I am 23). I guess I was totally wrong about that!!

NakedHousewife 05-09-2007 03:41 PM

Chico's has a pretty decent jean for people with no butt.

NakedHousewife 05-09-2007 03:48 PM

I am shaped like your standard pear- small-med breast, don't gain much weight above the waist. I have a very defined waist and a big butt, heavy thighs and legs. If something fits in the thighs and butt, I have that loose, open waist thing going on. I'm pretty high-waisted, too, and with short legs, so I can't do low-rise. They just look awful on me, plus I pick up children all day, I need to be able to bend over without showing off the twin hams. I actually found that Target has a pair of stretchy Levis that are perfect, and cheap, too. (I can get them on sale for under $25) They are dark wash without all of the fading (girls with heavy bottoms, DO NOT do the 'faded' jean. It makes you look bigger) and they are not too flared out at the bottom, just a boot cut. My only gripe is that in the past year, they have started making them about 2 inches longer, so I have to get them tailored, because the short is TOO short.

NakedHousewife 05-09-2007 03:50 PM

OK Wisher, I think we have the same body and we get the same jeans, LOL. That's what my tag says, too.

KCWMU 05-09-2007 03:56 PM

Charlotte,
Don't feel too old to shop at AE... =) Like I said, I worked there for 5 years, up until this January, and I'm 24. Our age is actually their target market. (Scary enought!) There are a lot of people that shop there, even people my parent's ages!

sockmonkey70 05-09-2007 04:25 PM

I am an hour glass shape. When I gain weight, I gain it everywhere. My butt is big, but my boobs even it out.

Old Navy Low Rise Flares. They hit me about a half inch below the belly button so no muffin top, and the flare evens out my shape so I look more proportioned.

caseygail21 05-09-2007 05:56 PM

Try Vanity! I swear by them, I won't buy jeans anywhere else... The store has different brands but Vanity brand is the best (and cheapest) my favorite is the "Ani's" My belly is my problem area but my legs are very short. This is the only store I can walk into, find my size, try them on and they fit! Also, sometimes they have huge sales on their jeans, that's always fun :)

RememberHowToSmile 05-10-2007 12:40 PM

I have a heavy mid-section and am relatively short (5'3") and I love fashion bug 5 pocket rodeo fit short jeans. They have both short and petite jeans but I like short because they have the larger hips then buying petite.

kella 05-10-2007 04:02 PM

I'm very brand-loyal when it comes to jeans. For the past few years, all I've bought have been Lane Bryant's low-rise flares. They're not low enough to give me a muffin top, they come in a beautiful super-dark wash, there's a tiny amount of stretchiness in them, they last for ages, the "petite" version is EXACTLY the right length for my legs, and they're about $30 each. They run from a size 14 up to a 28, so hopefully (soon!) I'll be to skinny for 'em. But not yet.

i just buy whatever fits right, i have yet to find a brand that caters to my body changes.. one brand that fit me while i was heavier, no longer does.. and one that fit me before i gained weight.. no longer does either.

nomorefatpants 05-13-2007 01:49 PM

One thing I've heard a lot from watching what not to wear on TLC is that many women have a problem with pants being too tight on the legs and then big in the waist. They recommend getting pants that fit you well in the thigh and then get the waist altered to make it fit right. The dry cleaner can probably do this or if you're good at sewing, which i'm not u can do it yourself. This actually works really well. You want the pant leg to go straight down, if it's tight at your thight and loose around your knee it makes you look like a funnel which isn't flattering. Get the bigger size that will allow the pant to fall straight down and then get the waist tailored. It's an option for looking ten times better at your current weight.

Ha! I have the opposite problem!!

I don't have a stereotypically womanly build---- my high hip bones make fitting things in the waist area super fun (*read: tight*) my lack of hips means that then below the form-fitting waist my jeans are baggy at the sides, there is always a surplus of material in the bum area due to my complete lack of one and there is always some bagginess in the entire leg area from thighs to ankles. AND I am a "short" not petite, not regular. Errrgh. :dizzy: ;)

Whoa am I a whinger today!!! Heehee.

So, I got the AE jeans and they fit better than the ones that I tried at the GAP, Old Navy and Express. But still not ideal so my search will continue unabated........... :halffull:

And...... I have noticed on my now many fruitless shopping expeditions that apparently size 6 is the least stocked size!! Geez! Isn't that just typical--- my size (no matter what it was from 24W to 6) is always the most popular and I always have to rummage to find my size!!!! :p
And I am sure that everyone here has the EXACT SAME problem. It totally sux.

nomorefatpants 05-13-2007 09:06 PM

Did you try on AG (Adriano Goldschmied) Jeans? or AE-which i'm guessing is american eagle... I stand by my AG "Angels" endorsement :)

kasserz 05-14-2007 10:40 AM

The only jeans I have ever found to fit my disproportioned body almost perfectly is Levi Strauss Mid rise stretch boot cut jeans, size 14, usually found at Wal*mart for under $25. I have a flabby stomach from having 2 babies, I have always had wide hips, always had kind of a ghetto booty, and in the last 4 years have gained what I lovingly refer to as thunder thighs. Any other jeans I buy either need to be a 16 or an 18 and they gap at the back when I sit down or bend over. I do home daycare so to have my @$$ hanging out all day is inappropriate.

I agree Mossimo jeans are great and cheap. I have large hips and no butt and theese jeans make my butt look a little better.

these are only two of many sites...
good luck

gremlina 05-14-2007 12:57 PM

Hi ladies. There is a site that gives you suggestions of jeans based on your body type:
http://www.zafu.com/

I hear that Levi Signature Series are good and tried to order them on Target online but they were sold out...

Right now I really like my new jeans from Old Navy I got. They are Just Below the Waist, Boot Cut, and labeled for curvy (a little more give in the hips and such if you are pear shaped like me)...

MAMA2CHUNKEYMONKEY 05-14-2007 03:56 PM

I have gigantic hips, a pretty large waist, and big thighs. My butt isn't huge, but still shapely. New York & Co. and the jeans with a bit of stretch from the Gap Outlet fit me well.
