"too far away"?? You'd think that would be a GOOD thing, demonstrating commitment and determination. You'd think they'd want people who were willing to travel long distances for an animal!! Weird. Sorry to hear you can't get him, but I'm sure things will work out one way or another in the end.

Yeah, I know. But, I can understand in a way. They want to do home visits, make sure she is doing ok, and being taken care of. That's she's happy, and what not. And they said they won't travel more than an hour or two away. But, then again...I would think that they would want to find her a good home, for her to be adopted..and I sure as heck would take real good care of her. I know her and Dixie would be buddies. Like I said before..they practically look like twins! I am trying to get my 'bro' who lives about 2 hours from there to adopt her, and then I will drive the 6 hours to pick her up, and pay him the money it cost him to adopt. He said he'd talk to his BF about it. So, maybe. Who knows. -crosses fingers-

Dragonfly - Thank you, I love my babies they are so spoiled rotten too. Your dog is very cute!
Jamie - Your cats are looks just like my sisters cat. I want to get a cat but my apartment complex wont let me :( Muzikjunky - That is really terriable what that woman did. My parents just adopted a one year old dog and that was one of my Mom's big concerns. I've heard similar things from other people about some of the shelters on Petfinder. But the humane socities that list on there are not suppose to be some bad. I hope you find a Pom. |
I have a cat, but she's at my mom's house with my sister's cat and our dog. But here is my pride and joy! My Lizz, about 6 1/2 years old.
http://a97.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/...f795169168.jpg a fat tailed leopard gecko She is one of the few breeds without suction cup toes, so she can't climb up any surface but she has tiny nails so she can scratch a tiny bit. And yes, she does lick her eyeballs! And you can see through her head where her ears are because there are thin layers of skin over the holes and you can also see her crickets in them when she eats. |
Shayley is a CUTIE!! aww look at those big eyes!!!
Jaime, that's so nice that you adopted older cats. They are so cute!!!! Cats are so awesome in pairs! My kitty had been at the shelter for months, too.. the way the shelter people pushed her at me gave me the feeling she was on "the list" :( we bonded right away! she's my babyyyyyyyyyyyyy and I wish I could have a house full of cats! hahah |
I was told mine were on that ubiquitous "list" too... I couldn't bear it! They're so sweet... it's not their fault that someone with a needle sees them as an inconvenience :(

I LOVE that you guys have adopted from shelters....especially the older animals. I hate to preach but I always do on that subject!!
Sometimes I feel like Ace Ventura....I keep adding to my family! Along with Rosie and Mollie I have a German Shepard Mix (she's getting old though :( ) and 4 parakeets. I keep the Shepard at my mom's because she has a big yard....I didn't want to deprive her of that at an apartment. You guys have such cute ones though! I love the lizzard! I thought about getting one....however I'm a little squimish at the fact of feeding it bugs :^: |
I would adopt from shelters if they had small dogs. Where we live we can only have small dogs. There was this husky mix last year that I just FELL in love with, and we couldn't get her. She was just a puppy..and had the CUTEST face. I hope she's in a good home now..and that she wasn't put down. :(

djs06 -- Thank you! I love Shayley so much, she was my first dog I bought on my own. My family makes fun of me for treating her like a real child lol, but I can't help it! I'm glad you got your kitty from a shelter, I think that's such a great thing, I don't know how anybody could just kill them like that.:( TracyFAdams -- She is really cute! I never had a lizzard before, I think I'd love to have one but I don't like bugs so I probably wouldn't be good with feeding it! Eek!!! britomart -- awww They are sooooo cute!!! They look like twins! lol |
A lot of people say the bug thing is a little gross or they don't like them, but it's actually not that bad. If you've ever swatted a fly or stepped on a spider or something, it doesn't seem like that big of a stretch...until you have to go to the pet store and buy them. She eats crickets, which are kept alive in their own little container. The alternative is meal worms, but they have to be kept in the fridge and I draw the line there. She can have those when she gets a job and saves up the money for a mini fridge of her own  She's supposed to have 2-4 crickets every other day, but my baby eats 2-12 so she fits in just fine. In the next few years her tail will fatten up more and her colors will become more bold. Once the tail is really big, I have to be extra careful because if it pops off, it doesn't grow back. I don't know what I'd do without my baby girl. She's been across the country with me all 4 times, and been back and forth from here and NC a few times. It's the perfect pet...no mess, food every other day, you change the calcium sand every 6 months, change her water when needed and keep a heat source for her and she's set. I do miss the kitties and the dog sometimes though. Siamese/Burmese mix from someone giving them away free and a chow mix I found on the side of the road. We had a blue heeler at the time, and some guy was sitting in our driveway saying we needed to get our dog because he saw Blue and figured the puppy up the road was ours too. So she wouldn't get hit, I went and had to pick her up and carry her back to my house, and she's been with us ever since. She was probably abused because for a while she was terrified of men, but my hubby got her over that pretty quick when she fell in love with him...she has great taste in men, I must say ;) We thought about taking her to the shelter because my mom didn't know if we'd be able to take care of another animal from money issues, but she found out she would have been put right on "the list" because of her breed. So sad, but we got an amazing pet out of it.
