Default hummus

I got some hummus with red and gree peppers and garlis in it. Its like 40 calories and no sugar and a few carbs. I love it!!! I have been eating two tblspn with celery. Does anyone know does it count as a bean serving? How many bean servings can you have a day?

It is counted as a bean but I do not think you have a limit on beans because they are high in fiber.

You don't have to limit the amount of beans you have daily, but I believe it's recommended that you limit your hummus serving to about 1/4 cup a day.

On the updated Phase 1 Foods List, it says you should start out with 1/3 - 1/2 cup of beans, but I think that's just if you aren't used to eating beans daily. (For obvious reasons, of course! LOL!)

If you find that you're enjoying hummus frequently, it may be less expensive to make it yourself (and you can control ingredients.) It's a staple at our house, and especially good with bell peppers and lemon vinaigrette.

Cinderly, do you have a good recipe for hummus? I have become addicted to the Athenos 3 pepper with celery.

Hummus or bean spread

Drain 1 can of beans, any type. Rinse if desired
(such as cannellini, kidney, pinto, black, pink, garbanzo beans, even baked beans, but remove fat cube if using pork and beans).

Add desired seasonings and puree in food processor. Serve with chips, crackers, or raw vegetables

For example

Bean
Garbanzo beans (chick peas) with garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, a dash of walnut oil is nice

Pinto beans salsa, cumin or taco seasoning
(or use refried beans and instead of pureeing, just fold in seasonings)

Pink beans withranch dressing powder (like hidden valley ranch) Salt, pepper, parsley

Beans for Chili, Barbecue beans or baked beans ( (drain, but do not rinse).
with garlic or onion

Cannellini beans with Splash of Caesar or Italian dressing or olive oil
