Good morning and happy first day of 2008.

Celebrating New Year with my three lads was just great - lots of fun and laughter and no sloppy midnight kissing although I did collect some hugs.

Big Mel is still asleep - stats are 6'5" and almost 300 pounds. He's a real teddybear. I suspect he'll want a big bacon, egg, homefries breakfast so may throw on some bacon and see if the aroma wakes him up. No real plans for today but I do know we'll be indoors as it's snowing like crazy right now! The roads are still not ploughed so I may not be taking in our Mayor's official NY Levee today. Mel wants to learn to make a coconut cream pie from scratch so that'll take up part of the day. His mother, also named Ruth, is my age but never did much cooking. I wonder how she managed that!

A very happy 2008 to all of you. My NY resolution is to meet more of you. The score for 2007 was Shad, Hollyhock and Carla. Let's see who I can corral in 2008!

Ruth
save me some coconut cream pie. yummy

Holly
Sound like an all night party to me. Did your dd have a bunkin party?

Mel
Thanks for starting the new thread. I weighed this morning on the new scale at 184 pounds. I've been having some intestinal problems which I think is due to diverticulitis.

Happy, Reenie, Carla, Madcat----It's time to get up. Wish I had a whistle to blow.

Blessings to each of you. Have a good day.

Good morning chicks and a happy new year to all! Wishing everyone a very great 2008!

Love, love, LOVE the new thread Mel. Thanks for setting it up! I think it's a great idea to have something to remind us of good habits every time we come here. Glad Ritchie and Jen made it home safe and sound.

I am motivated to move and I'm going to do everything in my power to make this a better year than last.

We had a quiet new year's. Watched some TV but everything seemed to originate out of Times Square. I thought that kind of sucked because the network stations seem to treat those of us in the midwest as if we are the poor red haired (no offense Madcat ) step children. They had one show from Las Vegas but it was for the uber young kids and tho I knew most of the acts, it was not for me. Did watch Lenny Kravitz in NY - I like that dude! The ball is NY did not live up to the hype they gave it. When the ball dropped in NY at 11 our time, Ryan Seacrest was standing on the platform with Carrie Underwood, Miley Cirus and the brother she is touring with. NONE of them knew the song Auld Lang Syne. I mean, ok - so they are all just past their diaper stage but that is THE traditional New Year's Song. They just looked awkward standing around on the platform.

I guess today I will take the Christmas stuff down. Didn't put much up this year so that should be a quick job. I think I will do one of my PUSH videos today as well as maybe some jogging on the rebounder in honor of Jogging In January

We're heading to Las Vegas at the end of the week. Can't wait for that! Will probably set aside everything to pack. Trying to take less stuff including toiletries as we'll only be there for a long weekend. Wish I could stuff 3 Tshirts, 3 pairs of undies into a duffle bag like DH and be done with it!

My resolutions are at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, making better food choices and doing one declutter project a day. Declutter can be as big as a room or as small as a shelf - just get it done!

I am ignoring the fact that Ruth is talking about coconut cream pie - **fingers in ears LA, LA, LA *** good thing she lives across the border way up north

I'm going to go make lunch and get busy - half the day is over already.

Make the most of your day too.

Morning all - and a Happy New Year to each and every one of you lovely people.

Yes I am back at work and not happy about it. Yesterday DS2 and I went for a long walk in the park, took photographs and generally lazed about until it was time to take him to the airport and say goodbye. Now I am back to just me and the cleaning of which there will be a great deal since I am out of here by the end of the month. DS2 was in a state of suspended animation on Monday - he had his work accident on the day before Christmas and on the last day of the year another young person was killed on the job. There seems to be little in the way of safety procedures in that place. I guess it will be another bit of stress to live with until he finds some other work or begins the apprenticeship he keeps telling me he wants.

I haven't caught up with all the posts from the demented December yet, but it was good to catch up with all the doings from those I did read. Sounds like you've all had fun and laughter, good to see Carla posting regularly too. I had a chat with her, one of us was underwater - or that's what it sounded like anyway. Since the temps here are dry and 30C, the flood must have been in Canada.

Anyway, I'd better go catch up with what is going on around here. I'll be back later.

Nice job on the new thread, Mel! But until I saw the photo of you in your jogging outfit I had no idea you were in fact a skinny blonde!!! Good news that Jen and Richie are home safe and sound.

Ruth, I too had a very nice evening with my friend. We ate delicious leftovers, watched the fireworks on parliament hill from his balcony - chilly but gorgeous! - and then did our laundry together. My life is so exciting... Actually, it was one of the best new year's eves I've had in the last few years. Your breakfast really did sound good. But I'm eternally grateful that I don't really like coconut cream pie.

Happy, I'd forgotten you were off to Las Vegas! Are you looking for a job there as a dancer? Will you gamble, or see the shows? I'm way too cheap to gamble, but do have friends who enjoy casinos.
Your prime rib dinner with DH sounded lovely too, so nice to have a good man in one's life.

Ceejay, like you I've got the pedometer out. So far it doesn't seem to be working right - only recorded about 300 steps when I went for a 15 min walk. Maybe my coat was holding it too still to feel the footsteps or something. I'd really like to get one that can just sit in a pocket instead of being on the waistband. And thanks for the wake-up whistle this morning!

Shad, we were beginning to think you'd deserted us! At least I was. Good that you enjoyed your time with DS2, although that was bad news about his co-worker's accident. He really should be looking for some less dangerous work, not that young men usually feel all that vulnerable to danger.
And you're counting down the days until you can escape back home. Do you already have the next job lined up, or will you take some time to regroup? Maybe you'll get lucky and there'll be something for you in Brisbane this time.

Madcat, good to see you dropping in, complete with the new red hair. I think Happy's a redhead too - maybe you should go with her to Las Vegas, the two of you could get a job as a sister act. Okay, I'll stop with the Vegas dancer stuff before Shad's job decided we're a porn sight again.
Happy 2008 to you too!

Today was a good start to the new year. Slept late, had a very pleasant chat with the SM (!!), found an email from Mel in my spam filter, erased all the emails offering me Viagra at cut rates that the spam filter missed, ate properly all day and entered it into FitDay, tried a short but successful session on the rebounder, went for a quick walk... The back is almost back to normal, sore only when I sit too long and then try to get up, so no more excuse to avoid exercise, and maybe a nice long walk tomorrow. I have snowshoes I've never used - the modern metal kind - and since we had another dump of snow today I might look for a spot to try them out. I'll probably last about 15 minutes before I quit in a flop sweat, but 15 min is better than the usual 0. I've also put my spending on a diet, trying to work out a way to retire sooner rather than later. So it's cash only from now on, apart from major or planned expenses, which does seem to make me think twice before giving in to whims. I wonder how long this new regime will last!

Well, fellow chicks, time to hang up the laptop for tonight. I'll just adjust the ticker and then sign off.

Hello to those I've missed!

Good morning chicks,

It's freezing out there this morning. Was quite cold in the house. Hard to get out of bed. I didn't get up early to exercise so that means I have to do it when I get home. It's ok. Got the DVD player loaded with 2 Biggest Loser Bob workouts from the PUSH TV series, a balance ball routine, a pilates routine and a yoga disk. Enough variety. And there are non machine cardio routines on the PUSH dvd's so I can get that in too while the treadmill is covered up as DH sands the walls in that room.

Woke up this morning with a partially busted tooth. I think it's the crown that the dentist recently put in. I had the same problem with a crown my dentist did in Illinois just before we left. About a week after he set it, the thing cracked off on one end. We were rushing to get everything done before we had to move so I just left it. That one settled down but this new one, another piece broke this morning. Going to see if I can get to the dentist today - just don't want the thing to fall apart when I'm away.

I opened the door just now to take a look out - it's very cold but dry and in the distance a bird was singing his spring song. Winter here is basically December and January so it was refreshing to hear that little guy singing away. Spring will be here soon hard as it is to believe. And thanks again Canadian cousins for the shot of cold again! We're just above the jet stream so we're getting it too. Supposed to be cold in Las Vegas this weekend too.

Carla - yeah, I'm going to get a job in Vegas. As a tassle twirler I think at this point I'd have to do it laying face down on a narrow board I love to play the casinos. I have a budget, always stick to it and look at it as my cost of entertainment. The thing I truly like about it is that it's one of those places where you can totally get lost and forget about everything else in life. Your new years eve sounds nice up to the point that you did laundry together - certainly a different way to spent the evening tho I can see that as another opportunity just to have a nice, comfy cozy evening together chatting with a good friend.

Gotta pause here - DH said he has to reset the network box and I don't want to lose this.

HOPE YOUR VEGAS VACATION IS A GREAT TIME AND IT WILL BE GOOD FOR JUST THE TWO OF YOU TO GET AWAY!!

SHAD~ WELL YOUR JANYARY 27TH COUNTDOWN HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN! GUESS THAT'S THE GOOD NEWS. I AM SO VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE COWORKER OF DS2. HE MUST HAVE BEEN HARD HIT WITH THAT NEWS. ESPECIALLY AFTER HIS FINGER OPERATION. SO SAD. I AM GLAD THAT THE TWO OF YOU WERE TOGETHER AND HAD TIME FOR EACH OTHER.
SENDING GOO THOUGHTS TO YOU BOTH!

CARLA~ I THOUGHT YOU GOT LOST!! I WAS GOING TO GO BACK AND LEAVE A BETTER BREADCRUMB TRAIL!! OR COOKIES! OR WINE GLASSES! ANYTHING SO YOU WOULD FOLLOW US HERE!! LOVE MY NEW PHOTO? I JUST HAD TO POST IT HERE AND BRAG! BLONDE, SKINNY AND WALKING!!! SEE...MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!! I KNOW....I'M BEING BAD!!!

THEY PUT SOME KIND OF NEW FANGLED HINGE ON THE 2 DOORS SO THEY STAY SHUT IN THE WINDS AND THEY'RE BOTH HARD TO OPEN. NOW IT SPREAD TO THE OTHER SHOULDER AS USUAL BUT THIS TOO SHALL PASS. JUST NO UPPER STRETCHING FOR ME. ON THE UPSIDE...I HAVE DECIDED TO DO A "WALK TO RIVENDELL" (PART OF THE HOBBIT STORY) AND EACH 20 MINUTES OF CYCLING MAKES 1 MILE. I HAVE DONE 4 SINCE SUNDAY. THERE ARE 458 MILES TOTAL. SO IT SHOULD KEEP ME BUSY. IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO TAKE A PEEK:

Happy and Mel, I don't know that you can blame Canada for sending you the cold weather, at least not this time. As far as I can tell, we've kept it all right here. Brrrr. With the wind chill, it's a very chilly -30 out there today. Which is much the same thing in Fahrenheit and in Celsius, so no conversion necessary. Not much chance of me doing any snowshoeing in this, although I might bundle up for a walk. I have a black balaclava (the kind of face mask bank robbers like) which will keep me toasty. The tough part is keeping the fingers from freezing off.

One advantage of the cold sunny weather is that peregrine falcons come to sit on a ledge of the hotel across the street from me. They are quite beautiful, and fairly rare, at least around here. At last glance one of them seemed to be having a mid-morning snack, probably fresh pigeon, although my binocs aren't strong enough to be sure. People staying at the hotel must think our building is full of voyeurs, all staring at their windows with binocs.

Happy, is it possible your dentist didn't adjust your bite properly after putting in the new crown? Any high bits are particularly fragile. And if you don't wear a night guard, you may be grinding away all night. I had trouble adjusting to wearing one, and finally manage with the bleaching tray from my tooth whitening kit, sometimes the top, sometimes the bottom. (The process didn't make my teeth much whiter, just more sensitive, so I'm glad I found a good use for it...) Anyway, some kind of mouth guard might save you some costly dentistry in the future, especially since you don't really love your job and frustration makes us all clench and grind. Which is good practice in case you get that Vegas job, or would that be bump and grind? Oops - we just went porno at Shad's work again. I do seem to remember that you weren't impressed with the dentist you were seeing, maybe next time you visit your mom you should line up some appointments with someone you trust?

Mel, you could go on the 'can't make it to the shops' diet! Just eat less and less until it's warm enough to go for groceries again. You'll have that Ceejay (Hi Ceejay! ) on the run pretty darn quick! It's the race to the 170's!! Seriously though, take care of those shoulders. It's a good thing you're motorized so you can still get around. Enjoy the trip to Rivendell, and don't overdo it!

Moving, moving, moving. I did my 30 minutes on the exercise ball this morning and yesterday, so am feeling particularly virtuous if not very slim! I hope to report some loss by end of month however. I'm aiming for the same as last year 10% of my body weight over the year - which is 7.8kg. I didn't make it last year. Was doing well until I came home from the States and came over here. Right now, all I feel is tired. Must be getting old.

Carla - I think they have too many problems at the moment to turn us porno. A thingy blew up in Karratha on Tuesday and that means that no gas or oil or LNG is being produced therefore the State has a power shortage. Yep this company provides the majority of the gas to make energy in WA State. So we are looking at rolling black outs today and it is supposed to get to 40C . I have the feeling that their training will be cancelled next week because they will be too busy fixing things.
I'm not sure the photo was of Mel, it could be Jen!!

Happy - Not the tooth!!!!! Oh no. Such a nuisance. Good going on the Push DVD's - seems that we are all up for moving it this month. Maybe Feb will be for FITNESS!!!!
What colour is the DH going to paint my gym??? What with tiling the floor, new doors and the painting he will be a renovation junkie just like me. I hope he doesn't take on the floor like a bull at a gate because his back will be sore!!!!
Spring already - well why not. Haven't you had enough of winter yet??

Mel - There is a parcel coming to your door in the next couple of weeks. I will have to post it before I leave here - or before I start packing. Sort of early Birthday present. And talking of birthdays - doesn't Ruth have one soon???
Glad to hear you are looking after yourself and not going out in the gusty winds. I think I may put you and DS2 in a room together to keep you both safe from harm and self injury. Your shoulder and eyes and skin, his arm, leg and fingers. What next!!
Glad to hear that Jen and Richie are back safe and sound. That father of his is a right nutcase! What and idiot.

Urghhhh - my abs hurt and my shoulders ache - Good job I don't have to like exercise.

So I'd better go sort out the last of the courses yet to be finalised. Put a rocket up the a--se of a bloke yesterday. Now all I need is to go see where he landed and what information he has for me. I'll be back.

Have fun in Las Vegas. I've always wanted to go there. Maybe I should put it on my "bucket list".

Mel
You need to keep us motivated. If I'm not exhausted when I get home I'll put in a denise austin dvd.

Every one else have a good day.
