Default Liquids vs. Solids

So. No matter what the drink, will a liquid take of less room in your stomach no matter how much of it you drink at one time vs. a solid?

Kind of. Liquids pass through the stomach differently than solids. My understanding is a little fuzzy, but it was explained to me this way. Your stomache is sort of like an acid filled soft funnel like bag. The solids have to become liquid (or at least a paste) before they can pass out of the stomach. But if you add liquid, it can move out of the stomache fairly quickly, even if there is already solid material in the stomach. Just like if you put bread in a funnel and add milk. The milk will pass through the bread out of the funnel, but it will take longer for the bread to dissolve enough to pass through the hole of the funnel.

I wanted to basically just take 1-2 days, since I'm down with the flu, to just drink liquids, with or without calories, it doesn't matter...to shrink my stomach and make it easier on me.

OK. But be sure you get enough nutrition so you can fight off the flu.

If you're sick, first and foremost take care of yourself! Lots of liquids can be good, but you DO need nutrition to fight off what ails you. Think long term and don't worry so much about the short term...
