Default Concerned - OT

I wasn't really sure where to post this so I just decided to do it here. Since friday I have been very nauseas and dry heaving (not actually throwing up, sorry if this is gross, but I do get stomach acid come up) and it feels like my stomach is in a huge knot with barbed wire around it. The only thing that keeps me feeling OK is if I am constantly drinking something. Last night at the football game I felt very sick when I wasn't drinking my pop (i got a diet coke at the game, and people had me move down and they stood over my drink so I had to wait til they moved to get it ) After a while I also had a discomfort in my left side. It wasn't painful, just uncomfortable. Today I am not feeling as bad, but it's still there. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm thinking about heading to the quick care today, but I just wanted to see if anyone else experinced this before. Thanks

Well I finally sucked it up and went to the doctor and I'm glad I did......I have to have my gallbladder taken out. They took x-rays and found 4 gall stones. The doctor said you can almost never see gall stones from an x-ray so they must be pretty prominant and there may be more in there. She gave me pills to take when the pain gets bad, and is scheduling an appt for me to have a specialist check me out. She said there is probably no room in there right now so it's going to get pretty painful. At least now I know

Oooh, gallstones - no fun!

I have a friend who had her gallbladder removed...she said the pain of a gallstone attack was like having someone punch her in the stomach over and over again! Hopefully you'll get to the doc, treated, and feeling better in no time!

Lots of for you and good wishes that you're feeling better soon!

Rjighlan86~ Good luck at the specialists! I do hope they can get the procedure done for you quickly! I know several people who've had their gallbladders removed and they were all just fine afterwards. I guess what I'm trying to say is to not worry too much. It's great they figured it out so quickly!

Hi, just wanted to say sorry you're feeling poorly and glad your doctor's found the problem and you know what's happening to you. One of my employees just had laparoscopic (sp?) surgery to have his gallbladder removed and although he was cleared for 10 days out, he says he was up and around within 2-3 days. I had to tell him to go home when he showed up 5 days later. So hopefully, your surgery is minimally invasive and you can recovery quickly too. Take care and let us know how you do! What a junky feeling to have during the holidays Get well soon!

I would definitely rather go thru childbirth 10 times than deal with the pain of gallstones! Been there, done that!

I am glad that you decided to go to the doc. That is the worst pain ever and I put up with it for many years. Never felt so better since having my gallbladder removed. Good luck, and take care.

Right now the pain is just starting to get bad, I think if I wouldve waited longer it would get worse. Mainly it hurts now when someone touches the general area...that makes me want to hit them Occassionaly I get a stabbing pain, but it's not too bad. They told me it would be the lacroscopic (sp?) and I would just have two tiny cuts and I would be back in about 3 days so that's definately good since it will be done over my christmas break. I kind of expected it because my mom had to have her gall bladder taken out at my age, she let hers go though until it got to the point she would curl up in a ball she was in so much pain. This will be my first surgery so hopefully it goes well

I think I'd rather give birth to a 56 Buick than have gall bladder or diverticulitis pain. My diverticulitis pain was about that intense. You are so fortunate that they've honed down that procedure. You no longer have to have your ribcage spread. You'll be feeling better in no time after your procedure.

I'm so happy you went to the doc! My gf had her gallbladder removed a few year ago and she felt great after!! She said the pain from after the surgery was not even REMOTELY close to the pain she felt before.

It's funny because I thought that all of the pain that I was having was just really bad heartburn. Everyone was saying how bad it was and I was like I haven't felt it and then I thought back to the times I was curled up in the fetal position with my medicine ball jammed into my stomach. I am just thankful that it doesn't happen that often. It's starting to slowly get worse though and unfortunately they won't be taking it out until after christmas, I was hoping for sooner, anywho thanks for the responses everyone!

Gallstones are the worst! I had them back when when I was in high school; to this day, I can still vividly remember the pain (and taste the bile *shudder*). My gallbladder was removed 12 years ago, and I haven't had any problems since. I had laparoscopic surgury, too. The recovery was pretty easy and quick, but I do remember being sore and sleeping a lot the day after. Wow, they only need to make two incisions now? Cool.
Since you can't have your surgery until after Christmas, I hope your doctor talked to you about what kind of foods to avoid. Fatty foods tend to trigger problems, so if you're not already doing so, you might want to switch to a lowfat "diet".
