Default Frosty Friday Chatterings

Brrrrrrrr, it's freezing out, and we even have a mention of snow in the forecast for this evening. I'm not ready for this yet!

I had a great day yesterday. Cindy called to say Maggie was going home with a friend after school, so she would just need me to pick her up on the way to get Audrey, so I only had to work from 3pm - 5pm! I got so much done around the house, then went to Bed, Bath & Beyond where I bought new throw pillows for the livingroom, and went a little overboard in the kitchen department. But I got a lot of little things I had been needing, and it was fun.

Caitlyn & Carley are spending a long weekend with us, Monica brought them out last evening, so they'll keep us busy! Caite will have to stay here with Carley though this morning, because I have a lot to do at Cindy's. I may bring Maggie over here for a while this afternoon. It just depends.

So that's my day. How's yours shaping up?

Cottage, sounds like you had a busy and fun day yesterday. I'm a sucker for the kitchen dept (and restaurant supply stores) too...whoever dies with the most kitchen toys wins!!!

I'm trying to rush to get some client stuff done before I need to go get ready for school. Just checked out the menu of the place we are going to eat this afternoon (per my son's suggestion). Hmm, seems like most everything is fried and sauced, so I guess I'll stick with some raw oysters and the Blackened Shrimp Remoulade salad.

My daughter called last night and said she was accepted into central casting to do "extra" work on her days off of her "day job" (which is really at night). She always liked to play "dress up" and can now get paid for it (and free food too!). There are 17 movies being filmed in N.O. right now and one here in town where we live. I told her to come home and work instead of LA...fat chance.

Good morning.

Cottage, you can never have too many kitchen toys, IMHO. Cat, I glanced at the menu for lunch and am salivating. Be strong!

I'm outta here shortly to get my snow tires installed! In this part of Ontario, there's no such thing as "all season" tires and I do a lot of back road driving.

First a coffee with a bit of LC hot chocolate in it - my winter treat!

I hate it when DW is sooo frikkin' loud in the morning when she gets ready for work! I don't have to get up for an hour after she leaves, 2 after she gets up. And today was one of those days that she was sooooooo loud that it didn't matter. Grrrr!

She did the dishes though so...I shouldn't complain too much!

I got all my Christmas shopping done yesterday! Well, I just have to get DW a few small things to open on xmas morning. We bought a couch a few months ago so we resigned ourselves to budgets for our family, friends and one another. I got a great deal in email for a points email thing I belong to (12 points per dollar spent and those points get cashed in for gift cards -- and FREE shipping!). So, I stuck to the budget and got it ALL done!

Anyway, that was my night/morning.

Cottage -- I agree with Ruth! There is nthing better than kitchen fun! I did the same thing with spatulas on sale at Crate and Barrel 2 weeks ago!

femme -- great planning!!! Great news about your daughter too!

Ruth -- Yikes! I don't know how I'd do it having to get snow tires!!! Do they come with chains?

tomandkara -- I work for one organization and lobby for them. I work on Health and Human Services issues, Income Stability for all, and some tax issues. Not the most glamorous of issues, but important ones. I used to work for a GLBT organization and lobbied for equal rights. I get a lot further with Congress now than I did then!

Not sure if it would work or not, but instead of heavy cream, how about combining some 1% or skim milk with some recotta cheese (mix it up in a blender before adding it to for a similar consistancy to heavy cream) and instead of the butter, you could maybe go with a combo of olive oil and some sort of lowfat margarine? Parm cheese is ok, so that could stay the same.

Morning chicks, they are talking snow here too! Whatever, it's Friday, bring it on! No time for personals, gotta walk the kids to school, but I'll be back later. Kier, when I substitute for cream, I usually use evaporated skim milk. It has a creamy texture and tastes kind of rich. I learned that when I lived in Maine, it's how I was taught to make chowdah, and added benefit (for soups) is that it won't curdle if you boil it.
Okay, gonna go put on my parka. See ya chicks.

I have mosquito guts on my hand because I just squished a bugger that was trying to eat my head. Yes, they're *that* big here! (Not really, I'm just in a grumpy mood and I hate mosquitoes.)

I want to munch munch munch but my brain luckily is winning right now. I think I'll just go to bed so there's no more temptation.

See you all tomorrow!

Holy Crud it's a 2,3 or 4 coffee day! Let me just tell you about my morning! I sat straight up in bed at 3am this morning and realized something smelled "hot". I got out of bed make a quick run through the house, found nothing. Woke DH up and said "what is that smell?" He gets up, starts checking things and my DD walks out of her room "what is that smell?". Well after checking the house inside and out we still don't find anything. For peace of mind we called the fire department and requested they come "minus sirens and lights" and take a peek. They smell it to (well duh how could you not?), they go through the entire house with there thermal device checking wall, attic and floor for any hot spots. Nothing. After 45 mins they leave saying the good news is we have never been back out on a call like this.

Well I send DH & DD back to bed, but there is no way I am going back to sleep. It will be a year ago thanksgiving that the house next to use caught fire and it was so bad they had to spray our house as a precaution. Well I am sitting on the couch and the smell gets stronger! I notice the furnace sounds funny. So once again I wake DH, sure enough there was a huge black spot on the side of the furnace and it was HOT!!!!!

I am thankful this happened when we were home, there is no doubt in my mind had it been during the day the furnace would have caught fire! So today I say my thankful prayers, someone was watching out for us!

I don't know what the damage is going to be on getting the furnace fixed/replaced, but I am trying to focus on the good in this.

I hope you all have a great day. Sorry no personals today, I have taken enough space and time! Love all you girls!

Wow, Stephanie, that is so scary! Glad you are a light sleeper and you guys are alright. That is one of my biggest fears.
GonnaBe, congrats on onderland! I hope to join you soon. Please send that fairy this way when you're done with her. I had a feeling somebody has been holding her hostage lately, since I haven't seen her in quite a while! We have Family Night on Fridays too, but we usually gather at my Mom's for pizza. Glad we don't have to go out to eat!

We had a nice walk to school this morning IN THE SNOW. It has stopped now, but it was snowing pretty hard for about 10 minutes and we may get flurries throughout the day, they say. It's pretty and I don't think it'll amount to anything on the roads, but I'm glad I'm not driving today, as people tend to freak out when they see the first snow.

Well, I'd better get busy - today is the day I try to get to all the things I didn't get to during the week, so I don't have to spend the weekend doing them!

First thing on the list - call college DD and yell at her for the big cell phone bill I just got. Looks like she's made some friends there!

Good morning everyone. It's supossed to be in the mid-60's here today which is pretty chilly for this time of year. I'm sure it's obvious that I have never had to purchase snow tires. It's looking like a 3 cups of coffee day for me too. Have a great day everyone.
