I'm just curious what people spent on average. I went to a running shoe store yesterday just to look around. I've decided not to try to run again until I get some new shoes and looks like it's going to run me about 80-120 dollars, which is about what I expected. Unfortunately, I don't know when I'll be able to afford them
Sounds about right....currently I am sticking with the Asics 2100 (oh heck ..that isnt the number anymore, but its the same series) and I think they are ~ $90. I joined the running club for the 15% discount even though I never run with the club. I go through about 5 pairs of shoes a year so 15% of that easily covers the membership fee. Plus tack on 15% off gu for me and dh and some clothing.
I know there are online places you can get them cheaper, but I like the service. I figure with the discount it washes out.
I recently bought a pair of the Asics Landreth running shoes for around $90. Proper sneakers are expensive, but they have an important job, so it's worth it.

I always thought, for some reason, if you went to a running store and got fitted for a proper running shoe that it would cost you a lot more than that, closer to $200. I was thinking it'd be nice to get properly fitted for a shoe but I wasn't willing to spend nearly $200 for it. Even if I don't run, I do quite a bit of walking and what not.
I just got a new pair of Brooks last week- they were around $80 (with the running club discount; $90 without). I asked for a cheaper suggestion and he pulled a pair of Addidas that were aroung $50.
Nelie, at specialty running stores the fitting is just part of the service of the store. Most running shoes I've noticed are in the $80-$120 range.
I wear asics Cumulus, the price varies depending where I get them from. RRP is about £70 (not sure what that is in dollars), but if I hunt around online I can get the old version for as little as £40. Because I know exactly what I want I can shop online without too much worrying. I haven't actually tried the new version yet, I think it's a bit more expensive and as I'm perfectly happy with the old ones I'll keep on buying up stocks of those until I can't find them any more.
The Adidas ones that I bought at Christmas time were NZ$150. They weren't the best fit that I could get, but they were really good. The best shoes for me are Asics 2120 which cost NZ$250 which I bought last week with my bonus.
I found them online for US$84 - or about N$120, so I'm tossing up whether I want to buy a pair online and see what the price is including P&P and any duty that needs to be paid.
I paid $106 for a pair of Saucony and $86 for a pair of New Balance. I much prefer the Sauconys though. They have a particularly wide toe area with a narrow heel for my weird foot.
I just bought a new pair today, for running outside. I paid $119 + tax for Nike Air Span+ 4's. Super - can't wait to run in them. My 'treadmill shoes' are asics, 1120's. Paid about $90 on sale.

Running stores do not charge for fitting, however they dont carry the cheap shoes by the same manufacturers and they charge full MSRP (other stores may undersell slightly).
I have a friend who went to a running store and was upset that I sent her there because she didnt feel the shoes fit her any better than her $40 costco shoes.....except she had to replace her costco ones after only 150 miles...
Mine are Adidas, and they are $90. I was married to Asics for a while and could get them on ebay or Eastbay for more reasonably prices, but then they started to make my toes go numb. Not cool.
I had a proper fitting at the running store and was very happy that I did. They last a reasonable time, and they are comfy.
Yup, $80 - $120 sounds about right. But good running shoes are absolutely worth every penny. My first pair of running shoes weren't big enough in the toe box and I wound up with a dead toenail, ugh - wish I had gone for a professional fitting immediately. I am currently running in Mizunos that I like a lot, they are $120 at the running store, I've found them for a little less online.
