Default Aerobics and "glowing" question

First, horses sweat, men perspire, women glow. nuff said.

For weeks I have been getting up early and doing aerobics in my back room. The room is a glass enclosed room with 2 banks of sky lights on each side. It is not a temperature controlled room. I was comfy doing my workouts in the AM. I would produce a "glow".

My boss has been in Sweden presenting 2 papers and taking some additional time off so he and his wife could have a small vacation.

I've been leaving work around 3:30 or 4 and coming home to do my workouts. It's been hot here. I'm still in my backroom doing my aerobics. I have been "glowing"! I know we need to do that. I checked my weight this morning. It is not my "weigh-in" day. I just wanted to see if the afternoon workouts are making a difference. I think they are! I'll find out more on Sat. when I do my weekly weight and measurement checks.

So, the question. Does glowing more when you workout burn more calories and fat? I don't glow like this in my morning workouts.

I don't glow when I work out--I sweat like a horse

I don't think that sweating burns more calories or fat than not sweating--unless the level of sweat or glow reflects the intensity of your workout. If you're sweating more because of heat only, then I imagine that all you are doing is losing more water and not burning more calories or fat.

Hmmm. I thought I was working out just as hard. I glow in the early AM as well. I realize some of it is due to the increased heat in that room. I was just hoping that it was helping.

Guess I'll find out in a week when they are back and I have to resume my AM workouts because I will have to stay here all afternoon.

Hey Mare -

I tried to reply to this earlier, but was having trouble with the site. I was actually wondering about this myself yesterday when I nearly passed out on a noon-time hill climb in the glaring San Antonio sun. I found some info that says your body does actually work harder when you work out in the heat because it has to struggle to control its internal temp.

That makes some sense, but I shouldn't think it enough to really make a major difference in terms of calories-burned. You definitely should drink extra water after you've finished if you're sweating/glowing extra though, to replenish all those lost fluids.

Just do what you do and work as hard as you can. You'll get your results, with or without a super-hot room!

(Incidentally, my favorite treadmill at the gym is the one directly under the air-conditioning unit. I still sweat while I run, and my hair gets wet, but my clothes don't get quite as soaked through as when I run on one of the other treadmills. Whatever the difficulties for my body in regulating its temp without the air-conditioner, I still find that it takes 32 mins of running to burn 300 calories.)
