Found this on the prevention magazine south beach section:
Q: Can we eat Boca Burgers in Phase I?
Dr. Agatston: Boca Burgers wouldn't be bad, except that they are made with partially hydrogenated soybean oil. This is a trans fat and should be avoided.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but straight from the horses mouth.
The Morningstar Farms veggie patties (not the grillers) are two vegetable servings each! They were one of my favorites pre-Beach, and they're great for the kids when I just don't feel like cooking up a bunch of stuff.
If you're craving a burger on Phase 1, try the portobello burger recipe I posted in the entrees thread. I got it out of the South Beach cookbook and it is excellent!
The original Boca burgers (the ones that say vegan on the package and have the SB-approved seal on them) do have wheat gluten, but they don't have any partially hydrogenated oils and are trans-fat free. Because of the wheat gluten, I would avoid them on P1, but I have them sometimes on P2.
The package does say South Beach phases 1, 2, & 3. I would assume Dr. Agatston gave his endorsement to the various Kraft products and what phases they could be appropriate for.

Even though he struck a deal with the devil if you push him to the wall he will say that the KRAFT SBD line of food is for emergencies and occasional use only....
as for boca burgers... YMMV but since they have wheat in them i'd advise against them for P1.
