Default Good Advice

today when I was talking to a friend I was lamenting about how I hadn't been exercising much lately because I seem to have lost all motivation to do so. She said "motivation will only get you so far, and it usually disappears, it's simply the commitment to yourself that keeps you going."

That made me feel so much better! And it's so true, motivation comes and goes for me, but that commitment can be there all the time, whether I'm motivated to work out or not!

Thanks for posting this. I, too, have lost my exercise motivation. This gives me something to think about.

I really don't like to exercise. And my motivation definitely comes and goes. But every month I make a commitment to exercise a certain amount (it varies month to month), and I do my darnedest to live up to that commitment.

Most months I only just make my goal or am a mere 5-10 minutes over. But I nearly always DO make it. Commitment works for me in a way motivation never did.

I couldn't agree more. Without a doubt, motivation comes and goes as it is HARD to sustain day after day. Next to impossible in fact. It's that absolute commitment to a better and healthier life that is needed. Cause once you make a commitment to something - that's it, you've got no choice but to see it through.

I totally agree- and feel like this line of thinking is making the difference for me this time.
