Default Hot & Healthy Challenge Chicks 5/7 ~ 5/13

Good morning all

I've never started a new thread so I'm not sure if this is going to work but we'll see!

Sharon - I'm still here. I've had a bad eye infection that has prevented me from using the computer; even now, my vision is a little blurry, but I'm on medication for it, and hopefully it will clear soon.
Things are going ok, food was good yesterday, as was water and exercise. Today has started ok, too. Glad to hear that your hockey problem has resolved itself and that you can now enjoy your summer!
Good for you in meeting your exercise goal That's now small feat (no pun intended)...Keep up the great work!!

Gotta rest my eyes now, talk to you soon,

Hey you! I was just coming to start the thread. Thanks sweets!

I'm doing okay, TOM is here, and I'm kinda depressed about the whole job thing.

Where are all the girls? We are getting fewer and fewer, then all of sudden we have lots of people on and talking about everything.

This is weird I was on early afternoon and posted to you VeggieGirl for starting the thread, saying your smarter than you think, then I had to run to physio and believe it or not an eye appt. I have macular degeneration, even tho they same I am young to have it. (Compared to my 95 yr. old Dad who just got it last year, I'd say I am young, plus I am youngest in the family. (I am really bringing it on). Anyhow I have no central vision in my right eye, only peripheral (sp), which was concerned yet again today, but my left eye is making up for it and seem's to be improving. I can still drive and do lots of things, putting on make-up is a bit of a bummer though. Anyhow it was a good report and I don't go back till November.

Veggie, I hope your eye infection soon clears up. Just a word of warning that is one thing you ladies do not lead to chance, anything different or weird going on, it is worth it to get them checked, I did not realize I had it for two weeks, then saw my family doc. first thing was to read the Eye Chart, could not read a letter. Some specialists saw me pretty quick, but it was too late. So Just a Really Important Warning, don't play around when it comes to your eyes.

My day has been up and down, food good, water getting there, exercise only about 20 mins. in. Well will have to sign off now, talk at ya tomorrow.

Sorry JasonsLea, I hope something comes through on the job front soon, did any of my suggestion's help (I hope). Will pray something comes up.

Sorry about your eyes Sharon. Thanks for the suggestions. I've worked fast food too and I hate it. Just too much for too little. But I think I'm going to work at MCDonalds until June. That's when the place I wanted to work will be hiring and the woman said I won't have to reapply, she'll just call me when her manager lets her hire someone. I have to go to McDonalds today up the street from my house to talk to some lady. *sigh*

Good morning ladies

JasonsLea - Hope things pick up on the job front. Maybe you could look at the McDonald's thing as a plus to your health regimen in that being around fast food alot may make you never want to eat it again! I'll keep my fingers crossed that something else will turn up for you. As for the food stamp thing, nothing can be as frustrating as a bureaucracy that works against you...sorry things were so difficult in that area.

Sharon S - My eye seems to be somewhat better this morning..it doesn't look much better but it is much less sore, so hopefully the meds are doing what they are supposed to. The oral antibiotic is making me feel sort of washed out, so i may move my exercise to outdoors today; maybe the sunshine and warmth will perk me up; of course, I have to be sure to wear my sunglasses

Looks like its just the three of us lately - oh well, we can support each other, right?

Have a great day everyone,

Maybe so, maybe not. It would be a plus to be turned off to MickeyD's fries....at this point I would kill for them! LOL It would have to wait till tomorrow though cause my mama cornered me and told me that we're going furniture shopping right after work and I can't say no to Mama.

JasonsLea, I know your down about working maybe at McD's, but tomorrow is the 10th of May and if this lady is to call you in June, hopefully the beginning, try and think of it this way "May is nearly 1/2 over. Like I said my kids did it, my daughter when she was on her own and it supported her. It can be done, just try and go with it and have a positive attitude and think, it won't be long now and I will be at the job I want to be at. Thanks for your support around my eye condition.

VeggieGirl, so glad your eye is doing better, too bad the oral meds. are bringing you down, obviously not too much so, or you would not even be thinking about exercise. You go girl, good for you having such a great attitude.

Well food wasn't too bad, ate a few too many granola bars, got to stop buying them. Water is good, did about 30 min. of exercise, will get the rest in before bed.

Went to physio again today, my arm was really sore and shaking, I am a lot worried this second operation will not be a success as well. The therapist told me just to take it easy today, maybe it is because I did three days in a row, instead of spacing it out. Next week its Mon. Wed and Fri. so we will see.

My son stopped by tonight, he keeps askng me what we are doing for Mother's day and my daughter has not even mentioned it. Of course she probably will not be here anyway as she start's holidays Fri. night. for a week, they are up in the air as to if they are going down south, or up north here in Canada.

VeggieGirl, what did you decide about the bike. I can hardly wait to ride again, that is one reason I want my arm better.

Well night ladies, talk to you tomorrow.

So we went to a woman's house who was giving away some living room furniture. The furniture was nice, looked new, but I didn't like it so my mama said she would take it. She has this adorable puppy and she said she is giving him away so I said I would take him. She said she will call me in a couple of weeks when he's had all his shots. YAY! He reminds me of our dog Poohbear when she was a baby. He's a black ball of fluffy fur. I believe he's part chow. I've already decided to give him a Roman name.

Good morning ladies

JasonsLea - Congrats on your new addition! We have a dog, and while I got him for my daughter, as predicted by many, he is "my" dog in that I walk him, feed him, play with him, take him to the vet, and of course love him to pieces. I always wanted a dog when I was a kid, but we had cats, which I really didn't like...I'm glad you have something fun to take your mind off your troubles.

Sharon S - Wow, you've had your share of physical issues to contend with. Makes me even more impressed with your consistency in exercise! Good for you . What exactly is wrong with your arm, if you don't mind me asking?

Mother's Day is going to be a little unorthodox here. My husband has tickets to the ballgame on Sunday, and he offered to get rid of them, but I said I didn't mind. My daughter was supposed to go with him, but now she has some swim meet thing on both Sat and Sun, so it looks like I'll be spending Mother's Day afternoon at the ball park! Oh well, we will probably go out to dinner assuming my daughter manages to get her homework done at some point on the weekend before then. I am more and more conscious of the fact that she will be going off to college in three years, so I like to spend as much time with her as she will tolerate!

Yesterday was good, although I almost slipped last night. My husband was late getting home from work, and I was really hungry so I ate a few saltines. They tasted so good to me (I'm a huge carb freak) I almost sat down and ate more. I sensed the beginning of that frenetic type eating where I inhale stuff that's not really good for me, and I forced myself to stop. I made up things to do to keep my hands busy until he got home and we ate a normal dinner together. Phew, that was a close one....

Had breakfast, took my meds, but can't exercise yet because I put the eye cream in, and it makes me see like Mr. Magoo for about an hour...don't want to fall off the treadmill, literallly

Well, have a great day and keep the faith

We've always had dogs growing up (usually 4+), and a cat every once in a while. We are big pet people, my family. I like dogs way better but I was planning on getting a kitten simply because cats make less noise and take up less of your time. But I saw him and just fell in love. I can't wait till I can take him home! But I'm lucky the woman is willing to pay for the rest of his shots and such.

Well I have to congratulate you VeggieGirl on stopping with the crackers, I wish I had that kind of will power! The eye is taking a while to clear up, you must of got a really bad infection, but good thing you got meds. soon after discovering it. Thanks for the support around the arm and the exercise. What happened in November of 2005 was, I fell down the basement steps backwards, hit the wood piece at the bottom, which flipped me over and landed me on my arm. When I went to the hospital for it I was told I had to see a specialist, it was X-rayed and put in a sling, when he saw me, he said I didn't need the sling (4 days after it happened) and to come back every three weeks, he saw a break, but it wasn't bad. It did not clear up and he did nothing but keep doing X-rays, so finally in Jan. when I could not even cut a pepper, I went to a different hospital, I had 2 breaks and the radial head (I think that is what they call it) was screwed up, so they replaced it with what I call a screw that went into the bone, and found a third break in the upper arm when they were operating. Unfortunately even though I was doctoring once a month, it didn't heal and I was still unable to put the normal amt. of pressure on it, so after consulting with a couple other doctor's the head of the dept. did the second surgery, putting a smaller screw in (Due to the length of time it had been moving around, it did more damage to my wrist and above the first implant, so they had to take a piece out of the other bone in that arm and put a metal plate on it to hold it, then pins to keep the two from going down and rubbing on the wrist again, then my skin was so swollen so much it covered the pins that were to come out at the six week marker, so that was another cut that had to be made and them removed. I just can't use it for hardly anything, nothing with weight, it kills, can't even open the side door, I get it so far, then get my foot in and push it. So you can understand my worry, I have only been going to physio for about 2 1/2 weeks, but I know it is not getting better. I am going to phone the doc tomorrow and see if I can't get in to see him and get it checked. Sorry for the long story, but it has been going on for awhile. I only walk for exercise, but pump my arms at my side and do knee lifts and butt kicks and side steps as well, mostly indoor walking so far.

JasonsLea, nice you are getting a dog hon, but what about the money for its food? Is now a good time to get one? I know I am raining on your parade and I feel bad saying it, but I am just thinking of your financial position. And if you start working two jobs, who is going to take the dog out, especially if it is a pup, it will need to go out a lot. Food for thought. I too would love a dog, but hubby say's no and I do have a cat, who prefers him, but she is suppose to be mine. It's expensive even for her food and she really isn't big. Sorry hon! Just my thoughts.

I did okay with food today, till tonight, then blew it royally (sp), know exercise either, other than shopping. Got my dad's new glasses ordered, he was able to use his old frames, which he really likes, so he was happy and it was a lot less money.

Well it is bed time for me tonight, I am taking my oldest brother out for lunch tomorrow and promised I would pick him up at noon, for most people that would be a piece of cake, but for me getting up at ten or so most days, won't work for tomorrow. It takes me double the time to shower with my arm the way it is, plus I have to have at least two cups of coffee and breakfast. So need to get to bed now!

Goodnight my friends, talk with you tomorrow. (Please don't be mad at me JasonsLea, I get in more trouble than you can imagine, for calling it as I see it, the decision is up to you, I am just saying weigh the facts hon.)

No worries Sharon. See, my mama has two dogs right now and she always buys dog food in bulk at Sam's and Walmart. So she told me that I can get dog food from her, just like I get my toilet tissue and paper towels until I can get on my feet. She understands how lonely I am.

Good morning all

Sharon S - Wow, that is some story about your arm. I can't imagine how frustrating and scary the misdiagnosis and all that followed has been for you . You are a real trooper! With all you've been through, I wouldn't hesitate about calling the doctor and insisting that it be looked at if you think you're not improving - you are certainly entitled! Hope you have a nice lunch with your brother today.

JasonsLea - Do you have any idea how big your doggie is going to get? Our guy is pretty little, he weighs 12lbs., but he thinks he is the boss of the house....well, he sort of is...he decides when he wants to go out - if he doesn't he hides under the bed, and he is super picky about his food! When we got him, I had all these ideas that I'd take nice long walks with him, but wouldn't you know, I got the one dog who doesnt' like to go out! He is such a homebody, I don't think he would care if he never went out...

Got my exercise in for today, and a decent breakfast. Have either of you ever had the experience that you eat a meal, (with me its usually lunch), and as soon as you finish eating you get this ravenous feeling, like you could eat a horse, even tho you know you can't possibly be hungry? It's been happening to me at lunch alot lately, and I thought maybe it was something I was eating, but now it's almost like its become a habit or something??

Well, that's it for now, have a great day,

Veggie ~ I don't think he's going to be that big. He looks like a darker version of my mama's dog Poohbear and she is about 11 years old and still small. I know what you mean about the hunger. It happens to me sometimes and I'm just learning to stay still until it goes away. Usually I get up and get more food...big no-no.

Morning ladies! Well sorry I have been gone. Canuk are you still walking? I did pretty good last week although I didn't reach my 300 minute goal. lol BUT I did work toward it and am still. I did get in about 4 great days of walking 60 minutes. This week I have gotten in two 50 minute sessions so far and one 30. Today needs to be 50-60. I have gotten better about the eating within my limits even though some days are still a bit over. I am being good with the sugar and white breads.

I have started eating the grape fruit again and am sticking to green tea. I have even nixxed the coffee quite a few days. Got on the scale this a.m. and I am down to 217! Hooray! So this month I started at 220 and am now down 3 pounds and am actually feeling it. I am looking toward being 210 by the first of June. If I just stay focused I can do it! I am enjoying my food and am not running as tight of a ship as need be but I am limiting the sugar and white breads/potatoes and keeping an eye on the cals.

Lots of water!!! Whatever I am doing its working! Tonite will be turkey, vegiie, maybe salad too. I will probably wait til tomorrow for rice. Today is chili beans. I made a huge pot yesterday with ground turkey and red beans. I had that for lunch quite a few days last week too. Something I do enjoy that is good for ya.

Anyhow Canuk I prayed for ya! Go look on the worlds healthiest foods list and see what veggies are good for that. I think carrots?

I was looking at my fitday and my "goal" is 160 by new years. Well that is 57 pounds to go but even though that seems like alot, I CAN do this! That is only 1.71 pounds per week! Definately a healthy reasonable amount!

From June - December 2005 I lost 30 pounds (280 ~ 250)
From end of April- Dec 2006 I lost 40 pounds (250 ~ 210)

At new years this year I started at 210 and I really kicked myself in the pants and by the end of january I was down to 203. I was proud of myself but then stuff with the ex, etc. I slowly crept up to 220! But I will not let that drag me down! My main focal point was the 210 cause I was that for a while and it seemed the 203 came and went so quickly, lol. So my goal is to be down to 210 by June 1st, and to be 200 by July 1st. I have lost 30-40 pounds in 6 months both other years. So I KNOW I can at least get down to 180. My goal will be 160, but if All I can do is 180, then I'll take it!
