Just wanted to let ya'll know that May 6th is
Internation No Diet Day!!!!-
I was just reading it in Women's Health Magazine. It was
created to raise awareness of the damaging effects of negative
body image and self-deprivation!
Sounds like a good idea... just ONE DAY when we DON'T think or worry about what we eat or how much we exercise or how much the scale has (or hasn't!) moved...
Actually, if you do this once a week -- that is give yourself a "free" day -- it can go a long way in boosting your diet mentality. Knowing that you can have some ice cream or a doughnut and stuff on say Sundays can help get you through some wicked temptations during the week. Of course, there is always the downside of having a "free" day and having an even harder time getting back on track the next day. But sometimes it helps to have one day a week where you can eat w/out being so strict. Nothing too over the top but just a break, so to speak. Just my 2 cents!
I have found that for me it's hard to get back ON track after having been OFF. So for me, I don't think giving myself permission to do so would be a good idea. For some reason once I START eating the "bad" stuff, it makes me want even MORE of the bad stuff and yeah, it's not for me. Lord knows there's enough times when I stray without actually planning it.

It can also lead down the path of weekly binges! One day of totally unrestricted eating can cause me to gain weight longterm no matter what I do the rest of the week. The free day in the Body for Life plan was a disaster for me.
I rarely have a free day because I eat things I'm "not supposed to" on a regular basis. I only wish I had the self-control of some of you, but I also eat fairly healthy most of the time and have exercised and eaten "reasonably well" for 15 years or so so I don't worry about it too much.
It sure does slow down your weight loss and that's the reality one has to deal with. I just don't exactly have any pre-planned "cheat" days leftover with this level of flexibility.
Hmmm that's interesting - I guess it's a good premise! I don't really give myself free days but I will have days where I plan treats...so a lot of my calories will be taken up by the treat food at the expense of the healthier food I would normally eat. Not necessarily what they had in mind I guess but maybe I'll plan May 6th for one of those days!

Jo
I do this.. and I have dropped 4lbs since I started my 39 day challenge woo hoo.. but I restrict 6 days a week.. 1200-1400 cals max with a 1 hour cardio 6 days a week. Works for me.. keeps me honest. I dont all out binge out, but I have *a treat* when during the week I have none.
