WELCOME


We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.

We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.

Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.



I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!

Hey! I was trying to post in the thread and when I hit enter I got a message it was closed... right out from under me! Fortunately I could still hit cut and paste LOL. So will try again.

Good morning everyone... just rushing through as I am working overtime again this week.

Catherine I just wanted to say I appreciate your cautions to people about posting too much info about their kids online. However, I would go farther than you and say the caution needs to be far more than on MySpace but the entire Internet. I cringe when I see people posting pictures of their young children online... it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo dangerous, especially if the kids are cute! Unfortunately there are predators out there who go online looking for such info and gleaning info as to where to locate those kids, etc. So just want to say that I agree with you in encouraging people to exercise caution.

And Ammi, it isn't that I can't accept praise. Just that when I am getting it and I don't deserve it or can't live up to expectations, it can make me want to back off from it.

Hi All,

Well blast it all, I just spent half an hour writing a post and lost the darn thing. That'll teach me to not use WORD. I didn't think I was going to write as much as I did so I thought I'd get away with just writing online here. Oh well no time to re-write it all now as I have to go exercise, but I'll catch up with you all with some personal replies later on.

Morning Chickies!

Got back from vacation late Saturday night. What a fun week in spite of the unseasonably COLD weather! I was so OFF plan, but I stuck to eating meals and refused to graze as I have previously. Also had some yummy margaritas with my friends. So much fun! I did however walk 20-25 mins every morning in addition to all of the walking I did each day. I came home 1 lb down which I was thrilled with considering my TOM started yesterday...gee..welcome home!

Anyway, I am back on track and have lots of reading to catch up on. I really missed my daily chick fixes!!

Good Morning Ladies!

I am pulling up my big girl panties and getting back on track as of right this minute!!
I was in a bit of a funk this weekend, and no matter what else happens, I have to continue on my journey ...and stop feeling sorry for myself. I know the requirements for my program and so what if there are no more meetings at work to go to. It was going to end sometime, so no biggie if it's earlier than expected! (it was just such a shock to stop so abruptly)

I want to all "newbies"...this is a great place to come for ANY type of support!

Catherine: I would also love a copy of your book, put me on the list!! You have such wisdom and humor...I can't wait to read it! Also, when we meet by the flagpole here it is usually for a fight...hmmm...maybe I should invite the Superintendant...I could take her!!!

Ammi: Thank you for your kind words...I will always be glad for any support I get here. And everytime I think about "butt issues" I crack up!!

Sandy: I took me so long to figure out glittermaker.com and how to post, I really can't tell you how I did it! Just kept clicking until it stuck!

Nancy: Sorry about the apartment. You will find another...I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason!

Brenda:I am so JEALOUS about your spa night!!{sigh} It sounded wonderful! I hope all goes well at the Dr. today!

Xena: on your calc test!! I give you alot of credit...my #1 son had to drop his Pre-Calc because it was too hard!!

Wyllenn-thank you for your welcome on the other thread I think I will take your advise and choose two things this week to commit too, I have a little notebook I plan to use as a food diary, so this week I *will* write down all my meals, and I *will* drink 8 glasses of water a day.

I had a question for those of you who've lost a little or a lot of weight, do you feel that you have more energy now? I seem to be tired all the time and I'm only 24. Well, just wondering! Gotta head to work-later guys!

Stopping by to say hi, the dieter formerly known as e s m a r a u d e . . . and as the threads here say I'm ready to try again. . .

I said hi in a new thread and posted a few photos in the picture thread, some of which may have already been seen by some of you.

I have a lot to get on track, not just my health but my entire life. While I've got wonderful things waiting for me on the horizon, I've gotta figure out how the heck I'm gonna make my away across the bridge to get there.

Hi Again,

OK I am typing this in WORD so THIS time I know I won’t lost the thing I just had a nice cool shower after my work out. You know I don’t mind the physical exertion when it comes to working out, in fact I love feeling my muscles work, BUT I really can’t stand sweating. For me that is the worst part of exercising! Anybody else feel the same way or am I just weird ?

Kim - thank you for the positive vibes, I think we all need them.

Annie - so pleased to see you posting though I didn’t expect to hear from you on here quite so soon. I thought you might like to catch your breath first after all those visitors

Catherine - I really should read or watch the news a bit more shouldn’t I. It’s coming to something when a friend in Canada is telling me about a news story from over here It is dreadful what happened to that couple’s home, no wonder the daughter has gone into hiding!!!

33tekfan - good for you for still being determined to start your weight loss journey despite knowing that already you have some challenges coming up. Sounds like you have it all under control though with your planning to drink plenty and walk a lot too.

Brenda - I wonder when you had hidden that chocolate out of harms way!! Shame you found it again, but hey, it’s gone now and hopefully your sweet tooth will stay appeased for a while

Feifer - hello and I think we all appreciate how much it helps to find a place like this where people know exactly how we feel and can share the ups and downs of life as a big person, and of our weight loss journeys. I have been on and off diets all my adult life and up until I found this place I never enjoyed much success with my weight loss. Now though I have lost my first 100 lbs and am looking forward to losing at least half that again

Jenn1993 - Glad you found us. on your marvellous weight loss so far, you should be feeling proud of yourself! I totally understand the question “ what’s the 2 steps forward, 1 step back thing” it’s crazy isn’t it. We lose some weight, we feel great, we need to lose more but then we start to struggle. I don’t know if you have seen the thread Heather (Wyllen) started about Losing 100 then struggling, if you haven’t I think you should go have a read of the posts there. A few of us are trying to understand why the struggle begins when we have done so well. One thing I have found that helps me keep going is making sure I set myself mini goals. I think a perfect one for you would be 9 lbs. In 9 lbs time you will be out of the 300s and into the 200s and you will feel fantastic

Amanda - glad to see you posting in the weekly thread How are you doing so far today with staying OP? All I would say is to try not to be too hard on yourself if you waver at all, and don’t give up or feel like a failure if you do eat a little more than you planned. Still do your exercise, still keep going, it will make staying on track tomorrow that bit easier, and then the next day and the next etc

You asked if people who have lost any weight have also found they have more energy, the answer for me is yes, yes yes Even going from 329 to 299 made a huge difference to me, to how much I could do, how much I WANTED to do. Now being at 226 it’s amazing the difference in me. I joined a gym, I want to walk everywhere rather than get the bus, I can clean my house in one go rather than do one room a day. I am sure as you lose the lbs you will find that energy you are looking for, it makes sense doesn’t it, our body’s don’t have to work as hard just to move around, so of course you are going to have some more energy then

Sue - OK I understand where you are coming from and I shall keep quiet

Sandy - you will be reading this after you get home from the docs appt. I hope that it all went OK and you didn’t hear anything you didn’t want to

Peggy - that’s great news that you had a totally off plan week, thoroughly enjoyed yourself and still came home 1 lb lighter You have just go to love weeks like that

I am not sure if I told you before, but if not, I enjoyed seeing your pictures on the picture page, and you can see such a big difference between the first and last set of photos. You are obviously doing something very right well done and thank you for posting the pics.

Donna - I’m sorry you had a bit of a down weekend, but I am proud of you for “pulling up your big girl panties” and getting back on track. We will often fall or jump off the wagon but as long as we know we have to get back on it and we don’t just quit then we are definitely going in the right direction! today with keeping on track

E - great to see you on the weekly thread, and I did read your most recent one on your coming back with a different name thread too. You certainly have a lot to deal with right now, not least of all being so far away from Mr Hawk. Is that him in the photo with you on the pic page, you make a great looking couple. Anyway my friend with everything especially getting back on track with your weight loss journey

Hello everyone,

First off all I want to thank all of you for your words of support. I really appreciate it. I really do not know how I am going to lose any of this weight. You know I have been so motivated many times, and I have all these thoughts and wonderfull idead on how I am going to stick to it. But this time, nothing. All I know is I have to eat less and move more, but how not so sure. I am reading up on everything and this time am going to make an informed decision and not jump on the next fad diet that comes along, I know that with your support I can do this.

Wow, great to see so many new faces!

Amanda, there are quite a few of us here around your age. I'm actually also 24 and started at 310.5 (at least, that was the highest I ever knew about). I hear ya on the energy thing, though. I get home from work in the afternoon and just want to NAP. I don't usually, but then I do typically fall asleep on the couch very shortly after eating dinner. I've found, though, that changes in my diet have helped a LOT. I cut out most junk food, and now when I eat a lot of sugar, I feel really disconnected, like it's difficult to concentrate on things or focus on anything for more than about 30 seconds at a time. I have to wonder if I'd pretty much ALWAYS felt that way and it was just normal to me before I changed my eating habits, ya know? Same with greasy foods (fast food was/is a major issue for me)--I used to eat 2 McD's meals and feel fine (or at least what was "fine" for me at the time), but now, not only do they make me sick to my stomach, but I feel soo sluggish and lethargic afterward, like I just don't want to DO anything. Changing my food has definitely helped. I've personally never felt the increased energy from exercising, but others have

Ammi--I am SOOO with you...sweating is the #1 reason I HATE exercising! It makes me take longer (because I then have to shower and change clothes and blah blah blah), and it just plain feels stinky and icky. Some people get used to it, I guess, but for me, even after MONTHS of exercising nearly every day, I still HATE it (not right now, of course--I haven't exercised regularly in about 2months ).

Glad to hear you had a great vacation, Torister! I believe I'm long overdue

My weekend was okay, overall. I did pretty well with food--although today is Jeff's birthday, and his favorite is ice cream cake, so I may pick up one of the tiny Carvel ones from the grocery store to have tonight.

Feifer-Welcome. I’m originally from Oklahoma, and since you’re in Texas, I can imagine that you grew up eating in the same kinds of food. I used to describe it as the all bacon grease Okie diet. You aren’t alone. Humiliation has been my constant companion for most of my life. Just hop in, and I hope you find what you need here.

Jenn & Amanda & Terry-Welcome also.

Amanda-I find that I am practically the energizer bunny when I am working my program well, especially getting my exercise in. I did 60 minutes this morning, including 400 situps, and was wasted afterwards, but now 90 minutes later, I can hardly sit still long enough to type. When I go off for a few days, I get so tired, I can hardly get out of bed. Once you get past the first few days, it is actually easier to stay on than to go off and on. When your knees are weak, our shoulders are strong, and we will be there for you. Just take baby steps, and don’t give up, and you will start to have more energy, I promise.

Misti-My foster sons could never understand why I wouldn’t let them wear their little league t-shirts anywhere but the ball field. The always wanted to wear them to school or out and about. They had their name on the back. It is such a simple thing, but if a stranger comes up and calls them by name, they assume they aren’t strangers. The world just seems like such a scarier place than it was when we were kids.

Ammi-When my husband loses something big on the computer, I just ask him if he’s been talking nice enough to the computer lately. When I was reading up on that story, it said that the mother had basically given the daughter permission to lay low. I wonder if she was worried the dad would flay her alive.

Sharon-I’m pretty sure digital cameras put 40 pounds on you just like a TV camera does.

Peggy-better to come home to TOM than having to take him with you on vacation. I hate that.

Donna-You probably could take you Superintendent. When someone asks me if I’m afraid to walk home from church in this neighborhood after dark, I reply that the prostitutes don’t weigh 100 pounds soaking wet, so what are they going to do to me? I was mugged once in college, and as soon as he regained consciousness, I had him arrested.

Since we have so many new people, I thought it might be a good time to re-run the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Dieters. This is from the National Weight Control Registry at the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado. In order to join the registry, you have to have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for a year. Most have lost much more and kept it off for 3 years before registering.
1) Expect failures, but keep trying.
2) Don’t deny yourself.
3) Weigh yourself often. (Most obese people haven’t weighed themselves in over 3 years. I know I was like that, and was always shocked at how much heavier I was than I thought.)
4) Do serious planned exercise. (To stick with it, make it convenient, affordable, and something you enjoy. Doing a 10 minute exercise video at home is better than having a gym membership that you never use)
5) Add little bits of physical activity into your daily routine. (Yep that’s the use the stairs and park further away one.)
6) Low fat/high carbo diet. (Any diet that you can stick to will work, but over 70% of the registers had used this one to success.)
7) Eat five meals a day. (It keeps you from ever getting hungry, and it makes your blood sugar more regulated. It also shrinks your stomach so that if you do binge, it hurts at a lower amount of food)

The good news is they also found that once you have kept the weight off for 3 years, it becomes much easier to maintain. Most of the registers had also yo-yo dieted for years before getting on the winning track. Half of them lost weight without help from anyone, so if you can’t afford to join a weight loss group or plan, you can still be successful. Sixty percent of them reported a family history of obesity, and 66% of them were chubby as kids. So even if you have always been overweight, and everyone in your family is, and you are poor, you can still succeed. That should take care of all excuses. Just remember that basically it is the simplest thing in the world – eat less, move more. It may be simple, but it isn’t easy. You have to take it one step at a time, and never give up.
