Default Decided to move my

ticker. I've been at about 193-195 on my home scale all week. And since that's the one I've always gone by and it was between 195-200 before that I decided I can move to 195 and be safe. I'll weigh in tomorrow (my chosen day) just to make sure though. I am feeling pretty good about it. I haven't seen 200 on there for quite a bit...even in the afternoon!

So, let's cross our fingers that I didn't prematurely move it!

*I know the dr's scale said 200 the other day but that's not the one I measure on numerous times each day. KWIM?

I was a MAJOR coke drinker so I think cutting that out will make a bit of a difference in the beginning. I drank 5 bottles of water yesterday but I put the crystal light powder in 3 of them. Is that ok? It's better than coke right?

I know that I am trying to cut out the diet cokes...I know that they are not as good as water. I am an ice addict though! What I need is a good salty (not too salty) snack food for mid day. I am not a raw carrot eater...any suggestions?

Not from me but I can't wait to see what others have to say. They always have great suggestions.

Have you ever had "Laughing Cow" cheese wedges? It's very soft, spreadable. The garlic and herb are very tasty, and one wedge is only 35 calories. One of those and 5 or 6 whole grain crackers is yummy, and comes in at about 100 calories.
Also, not sure if you girls do a lot of reading on the subject of health and weight loss, but there is much discussion on diet soda. Recent studies have shown that those who drink 1 diet soda a day are ?% (sorry, can't remember the numbers off the top of me head) more likely to be overweight. With each additional soda per day, that number goes up. I would assume that would be any calorie free drink. You may want to learn to love water :-)

The specific number on the scale, doctor vs. your own, is not what matters. What's important is that the SAME scale is going down. Considering that you want to weigh your body, not food and clothing, I would weigh on your home scale in the morning at the same time at each weigh-in.

My docs scale is off by 12 POUNDS!! I weighed myself before I went there, immediately weighed myself. Keep in mind, this guy sees peds, adults, elderly etc, they ALL use the same scale. So, when we left, I weighed my daughter, brought her home, weighed her, her's was the same, but with me it was a 12 lb difference. Matt, had an 8 lb difference, so I use my scale, it's the one I've always used, it's going down consistently. I avoid the docs scale like it has rabies.

Saltier snacks, fresh spinach leafs, small amount of sea salt with balsalmic vinegar, for snack. Turkey meat, deli style, wrapped with low fat swiss cheese in lettuce. I have a salt issue too, I love the stuff!!

Good for you!!! That's great, keep it up!

About the water with Crystal Light poweder--yes, that's better than a soft drink. The soft drinks are bad for a number of reasons besides all that sugar.

Yay! Keep going!

Oh, I wasn't drinking dt.....just regular full flavor full of sugar COKE. I do still have a dt dr pepper every now and then. I will try to get it completely cut out also but I'm doing it one step at a time...and the coke was my crutch! I haven't had any soda in a couple days and that's big for me. I'm dropping things slowly here and there. I am assumming I'll do better and stick to it forever if I do it that way rather than cut everything right off the bat.

I still have a dt dr pepper once in awhile. I love dr pepper, it is my downfall. Especially with peanuts in it. I cut it out completely, for 3 months, then had a dt dr pepper, it was WAY to sweet and carbonated for me, so when I do have it, I cut it with tonic water and lime. Much Much better.

Just a quick bit of info on one theory why diet/calorie free drinks seem to contribute to weight gain.

[QUOTE"People think they can just fool the body. But maybe the body isn't fooled," she says. "If you are not giving your body those calories you promised it, maybe your body will retaliate by wanting more calories. Some soft drink studies do suggest that diet drinks stimulate appetite."

I usually don't drink anything other than water, but as someone else said, I love Dr. Pepper! So a few months ago, I decided to treat myself to some diet DP. I had half a can about noon. Within half an hour, I was ravenous, very very unusual for me. I have not had one since, and have been seeing more and more info on this subject. I just figure, this thing is hard enough already, why increase my appetite? It seems like it would almost be better to include a regular soda, and count the calories in your daily allotment.

Maybe I read too much ^.^

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but the way I cured myself of my Diet Coke habit (and it was a serious one - I went through a 2 liter bottle every day or so!) was the following:

1) Get large, insulated mug. (Mine is 32 oz.)
2) Fill with ice & water upon arrival to office.
3) Drink contents. Do not have coffee or soda until contents are gone.
4) If I still want coffee or soda after finishing water, I can have ONE in the smallest available quantity.
5) Water mug must be refilled at the same time coffee/soda is retrieved and must be finished before another coffee/soda may be consumed.

I sometimes have to psyche myself out. This worked - I'm down to a coffee drink once a week and maybe 8 oz. of diet soda a month.

For salty snacks - have you tried a small number of lightly-salted mixed nuts with a little lowfat cheese? The nuts tend to be fatty, so you won't want to go wild, but I find them pretty filling. They also take care of any salt cravings for me without the added guilt bonus chips would bring.

I've also been known to lightly salt a Granny Smith apple slice. (VERY lightly salt it or it's nasty.)

ItsAboutTime - Congrats on your loss! At this rate, you'll be to your first goal in no time at all!
