Default Wife Swap!

I know many of you are in different time zones so I won't spoil the whole show, but if you seen the previews you would know that one of the families in the swap eats a STRICT raw diet! I mean RAW! Raw veggies I have no problems with, raw meat is a whole other ballgame. This family downs raw beef and chicken like it's going out of style. I'm sorry, maybe it's my profession or complete fear of germs but all I kept thinking about was E.Coli, Salmonella, Trichenosis... UGHHHH.. if I were in that family I'd look like Posh Spice b/c I'd starve myself before eating raw chicken.

Ok. Ironcally, I was flipping through my raw food "cook" book while this came on. I threw my book at the television. I do NOT want people to think this is what this diet is about. I don't even know what to say. I'm disgusted. I really hope people realize what a gross misrepresentation this is.

I'll come back when I calm down.

And lets not forget all the eggs as well. I saw this show and OMG! When those people were eating the raw chicken it totally grossed me out, especially when she licked the guys floor!!! That is just nasty. Of course they were nasty people..filthy house, dirty clothes, apparently didn't shower often Supposedly they got sick when they went to eat cooked food. I totally think it was a mind thing but hey, whatever. It was disgusting to say the least! I just can't believe how some people live.

After watching a lot of these shows I wonder if child services have ever been called in on any of these people. Too many times they home school their children but not really. They say they are but dancing around a fairy tree??? Yikes!

I really did feel bad for the kids simply b/c they were only doing what they were taught, not having any formal education they took their parents word as gold. I've heard about "eating raw" and living a raw diet, but that does not include raw meat or eggs. I can't even begin to imagine what a years worth of built up bacteria can do to the intestines. As far as the woman licking the man's kitchen floor?? Her response was "Do you think God would put something on this earth that would hurt us?" Let's see.. if you come from a Christian background and believe God is the creator of all things, then you would accept that God created Lions and Bears and Sharks.. I wouldnt' dream of going up and licking one of those either...

The only book I've ever read on a raw foods diet, did advocate eating raw meat. It was probably written in the late 70's or early 80's. I can honestly say it was the one diet program that I wasn't even slightly tempted to try, especially at the time when I wouldn't have dreamt of eating meat or eggs that weren't cooked to oblivion (now I will occasionally eat an egg with a slightly soft yolk or order a medium steak). Though I don't think I could have even watched someone eat raw chicken, Blegh.

I thought the raw diet was some sort of vegan or vegetarian diet. Raw meat? That's just wrong (unless you're giving it to your dogs).

I suppose after that, the proper term would be, "raw vegan/living foods diet".

I do know that ABC had solicited families on a raw vegan.living foods board, but had no luck because of the scrutiny they face (even moreso now) and they were concerned about child service getting involved and the unwillingness of a mother to have to go live with a family that lived on McD's or something, which they wouldn't be willing to do. I think that the "raw" family's view was more aligned with survivalism- not raw foodism. I do know some raw foodists (the vegan kind) and they don't live in complete filth as these people did.

I didn't understand that. Supposedly, they live this survivalist lifestyle, but IMHO, a big part of surviving is being able to adapt, and high raw foodists have a difficult time doing so. That is the main reason why I haven't done it 100%. I can be raw most of the time, but my life would lack a lot of balance and adaptibility if I attempted it 100%.

I was astounded by these gross people! Totally nuts is all I can say. The son cried so hard when his parent's sick views were challenged; his whole world caved in at just the mention of a different more normal lifestyle; you could see how psychologically screwed up they are with no contact with the outside world. They should be REQUIRED to go to school. There is no home schooling going on; only child farm labor for 8 hours a day according to them.
