Running faster on the treadmill will burn more calories. And losing weight/fat is all about calories in vs calories out.
You might want to try interval training as this burns EVEN MORE calories. Try 1 min slow jogging, then 30secs all out sprint, then 1 min slow jogging to recover, then 30 secs all out and repeat until spent!
Interval training also burns more calories at rest after exercise than just pottering along in the mythological "fat burning zone"
