Ultimate Fitness Goals?
What are some big - or small - fitness goals. I'm not talking weight here, but something you want to be able to physically do that you can't now.
I want to be able to do unassisted pull-ups and dips.
I want to bench press my body weight
I want to BQ (qualify for the Boston Marathon)

How funny cause when i was getting dressed this morning i was thinking what could i do (exercise) for the rest of my life not just to lose weight but forever
so here are mine
1. be able to do a pull up i see all these people make it look easy yet it is so hard for me i cant get half way yet
2. get a routine for life cardio/weights
im still experimenting so when i find it i'll be happy

I'd like to:
1. do an unassisted pull up also
2. do the try-a-tri in August, I finally feel confident enough to do the swimming part

Go Ilene. I've been waiting for this for 2 years! Maybe 3--time passes!!
Nikaia, backpacking without wheezing is a very good fitness goal!
Mine:
Ironman!! (within 10 years)
BQ is a dream, but I might make it an actual goal (meaning I'll work towards it)
Hiking the Grand Canyon (mostly need to work on fear of heights for this one now).

I've been thinking about this too. Mind if i join in?
1. Run an 8K - training for a St. Patrick's Day 8K
2. Run a mile in under 9 minutes - I think i can do this, but i haven't ever tried. It's time to prove that i can!
3. Do an unassisted pull up - i started out not even being able to hold myself up at all and have worked up to 6.5 seconds. But i want to do a real-deal pull up!
4. Run a 5K in under 30 minutes
5. Squat my start weight (192 lbs) - most recently i squated 155 (my current body weight).
I'm sure there are more, but this is a good place to start!

Anyone take those silly physical fitness tests in elementary/high school?
I want to meet the 85th percentile values for each of those tests (curl-ups/situps, pushups, shuttle run, endurance run, and v-sit and reach) for 17+ year olds. Isn't that random? I just remember feeling like such a schmuck for not being able to do very well on these stupid tests in high school. If I met the 85% goals, that would be the "presidents physical fitness award" level...better physical fitness than 85% of high school seniors.
The values I want to meet:
1 mi endurance run - 8:15 (currently at 10:00 even)
Sit and Reach - 43 cm (this is a flexibility exercise...not sure how I'm going to measure it, LOL - need to make friends with a gym teacher)
Curlups/situps - 44 in 60 seconds (I think I have this one...need to officially time it).
Shuttle Run - 10 seconds even (you sprint 30 feet, pick up an object, and sprint back)
Right-angle pushups (standard pushups) - 25 (one every 3 seconds - in one set - you stop counting as soon as you can't do them at that 3 sec pace).

I haven't thought this out completely yet, but I will as I get more and more fit. There are things I want to do, like be able to do several pushups (not the modified ones -- the hardcore ones), hold some yoga poses that are too challenging for me right now, and so on. Right now, though, I'm very focused on becoming a good runner and I'm definitely just a novice.
My goal for the 10k I'm running in March is simply to run at least three miles of it. I hope to run more than that, but if I run about half of it, I'll be thrilled. After that, my goal is just to run a 5k in May with no walk breaks. Eventually, my "ultimate" goal is to run a marathon. That sounds insane to me right now, and of course I'll work up to it by doing smaller distances (and a half marathon or two) first, but hey -- why not set your goals high? Another goal is to run this same 10k next year, but to run the whole thing and to finish it in less than an hour.

I love this. I ran a 5K on Labor day that I had previously walked and it was such a great feeling!
I really need to think about my long term fitness goals a bit more. A 10K is a possiblity as well as a super sprint triathalon or a sprint duathalon (the swim still scares me-good for you Ilene!).
