Smile August mini-challenge!

Well here we at the height of summer and our main challenge is to stay motivated to exercise and to eat well and not overdo it on ice cream and other cool treats - there's been a few days where I felt like having popsicles for dinner just to cool down!

If you would like to give yourself a mini challenge this month then feel free to post your personal goals.

So my personal goals this month are:

1) Continue eating vegetarian meals during the week
2) Eat sensibly and get exercise while on vacation for 1 & 1/2 weeks
3) Eat fruit salads instead of ice cream

I want to be fit by fall!

Good luck everyone!

HI all!

I am going to reduce my weight loss goals from 5 to 3 lbs a month due to muscle toning.

1. Continue my 2 day per week hikes
2. Move every day even if just a stroll down to the bridge and back
3. Water, Water, Water
4. Lose 3 lbs
5. Lose more inches all over - especially hips, butt, saddle bags
6. Add a toning exercise like crunches
7. Weight training at least once a week - primarily lower body

I also need to reevaluate my caloric intake do to increased activity - want to be sure I am getting enough since starving myself will not make me lose more, but instead will make me hold on to what I have.

I'll be doing quite a bit of walking on my trip and am planning to do yoga my room every morning.

I'm determined to make healthy choices at the restaurants as well and I want to come home and have lost weight.

So far I am seeing a firm 2 lb loss. Since AF came yesterday and I weighed on Sat - I hoping it is actually more.

Still doing my 2 hill hikes a week and this Sat the 19th going back up the mountain for an all day hike. The distance covered isnt really much more than my daily walks - the difference is that I carry a heavier pack with water and lunch and survival stuff, but we go slower vs the daily walk that is only a couple hours but we push it fast.

I would say my dailies are more cardio and more concetrated butt/legs, whereas the long hike has more varied terrain and is more endurance. And site seeing.

Havent gotten back to weight training yet - and I have only done crunches 1 time. Someone needs to slap my hand!

Well I haven't weighed in yet but I did get plenty of exercise at the convention I was at. Between walking the length of the convention centre several times a day, walking outside, being on my feet for 8 hours a day and lifting heavy boxes I should be fit as a fiddle.

I did eat mostly vegetarian meals while I was away and had sushi two nights in a row and one Indian meal.

Hopefully I have lost some weight this week!

Well I am the same weight as when I left for my holiday but that's okay. I feel good that I didn't gain and that I got plenty of exercise and want to keep that going.

I dont know what is going on - now the scale says I gained 5 lbs

I am guessing that all the hill climbing while carrying a back pack along with the increased salt to prevent dehydration has caused both an increase in muscle weight as well as a bit of water retention.

I got caught up in the idea of "drowning oneself" by drinking too much water and diluting my cells and so naturally went overboard and ate too much salt over the weekend.

Regardless of what my scale says - I know my butt is getting smaller since I managed to squeeze into a 14 (started at a 22) last weekend and could still breathe.

So I will focus on my measurements during this plateau. And just keep on hikin'!

aj- the salt could cause bloating and retention so you will probably lose some of that 5lbs over the course of a few days.

I can gain up to 3lbs overnight from eating Chinese food.

I'm doing pretty good this week so far, staying OP and trying out some new recipes.

I made vegetable biriyani rice last night for supper along with chicken korma (as we had guests over) and Naan bread - it was delicious! (if I do say so myself - )

mmmm chinese food....drool.

Well good news - I am back to 190 as of this morning.

I can live with no loss or only a partial loss as long as there is no gain, not with all the strenuous exercise I have been doing.

I have until the 1st - 1 week from tomorrow - to drop 2 MORE lbs to meet my goal of dropping 4 total pounds this month.

CAN SHE DO IT?

Official WI is Friday the 1st. Fingers crossed.

Leaving on Friday for a 2 day/overnight hike in the woods with my hiker buddy. Friday going in will be heavier load but mostly downhill so Sunday coming out will be less load from eating food but uphill. Majority of activity will be Saturday when we day hike around Fish Lake - takes 4hrs if you dont ever stop so we should have a nice long day.

Hope you had a fun weekend!

I haven't eating well at all for the last 2 days as I haven't been feeling well and have stuck to soup and crackers but then had Greek take last night.
