Default Goal setting help?

Hi

My first goal was to be down to 299 by the time my hubby returns on Aug. 7. Well, as of today I'm at 299.5, so I AM going to make my goal!

I've never set weight loss goals before, but it seems to help motivate me a bit. So, quesiton is.. do most of you just set another goal immediately upon reaching the current one, if you reach it early? OR, do you just wait until the original goal date to see how many pounds past the goal you lost?

How far ahead should I set my next goal? A month, 12 weeks? ?
or should I count up how much I've lost by goal date and base my next goal on beating the first?

Thanks!
Angie

im setting mine in 10%'s of my starting weight... if i reach it early i start on the next...

your doing great.. he wont recognise you !

maybe you could do 1/2 or 1 stone goals if they seem more acheivable....

What is a stone? I know it is a measurement of weight, but what is it in terms of pounds?

I don't make goals saying how much weight I'll lose by when... but I do make exercise goals.. if they include a date and I reach goal before the date.. I push forward to see how much I can do before the date I set. It really is an incentive.

If you are planning to set another weight loss goal I think you shouldn't base your goal on this past one.. the journey seems to always be different.

How about a different kind of goal? My last goal was about how far I would walk in 3 months. My current goal is to be able to do a downward facing dog WITH both of my heels flat on the floor. (yoga) I don't know when this will happen.. but I am getting better so.. maybe soon !

I love doing goals this way.. it is so rewarding.

My English friend tells me a stone equals 14 pounds.

I was wondering how much a stone is also.. so thanks for clearing that up for me too!!

Well I do have regular exercise goals.. my goal each week is to do 5 days a week, and bonus points if I do 6.

I really liked having a weight goal this time I found it really motivated me to meet it. ( I do still have .5 to go by the way, but thanks for the early congrats anyway!!) It would be nice if the scale lets go of the .5 before my tuesday weigh in but it's ok if not.. -2.5 for a week I can totally accept!! My weight goes up and down a bit during a week though so who knows what 2 days can do.

I guess I'll just keep plugging away until my original Aug. 7 goal date and see what I've done by then. That's only 2 weeks from now!

Thanks for the advice!

My goals aren't usually weight-based, but I did decide that I wanted to weigh less than the average (American) football linebacker by the time football season started, and I believe that will happen (I weigh in today and I am so very close). I always make my goals TOTALLY attainable, so if some obstacle happens I can still get back on track.

My other goal is to be able to ask for a certain clothing size for Christmas gifts (my dad's wife loves to purchase clothing for us).

My weekly goals are always behavior-based. I'm going to go out to eat only once this week, or I'm going to eat four servings of vegetables every day, or I'm going to apply some particular strategy to a pot-luck party, etc.
