Are you starting your holiday?

My weekend should be filled with a bunch of exercise.

Saturday, my best friend invited me to go swimming at her place,

My parents talked about going for a boat ride/pick nick (again alot of swimming) sometime this weekend ( either saturday or sunday)

I want to go walk with my dog in a horse fly free area.

I also have some landscaping to do.

So it should be fun.

We planned to go camping tomorrow night, but DH told me yesterday that he may have to work Saturday and Sunday. If so, that will screw up our plans. I'm trying to decide if the kids and I will go without him.....probably not. We'll know for sure this afternoon.

I'm leaving work early this afternoon and headed to a camp ground where we will meet up with other friends. Planning on camping Friday night and have a big party. Saturday morning we are all going on a horseback trail ride. I haven't been on a horse in a couple of months so this should be interesting.

Might go out dancing Saturday night. Depends on how I feel. Sunday -- who knows. Will probably be so sore from Saturday and won't be able to move!

wow, horseback riding sounds really fun. I haven't done that since I was a kid. Do you believe we have that here in the park near us? right in the middle of Brooklyn? ha.

We went to the movies today (very strange experience, the seats in the theater were still damp because they'd cleaned them the night before; the staff handed out garbage bags for us to sit on ??? then they forgot to start the movie on time). We'll go to the park Sunday if it's not storming here. Probably do this and that around the house, nothing that exciting.

A relaxing, refreshing, utterly un-scheduled weekend at home. Its pretty rare that I get a weekend off from "stuff to do", so I'm looking forward to it. Exercise will definitely be in there, though, and some cooking that requires more time in the kitchen.

Next weekend, though - white water rafting, and possibly wine tasting with a group of people from work. Wish me luck!

Saturday, we are going hiking along the top ridge trail of the nearby Santa Cruz mountain range. We've hiked it a few times before: very pretty, and you end up with a breath-taking view of the valley and ocean. Well, you "middle" at the breath-taking view... then you have to hike back to the car!

Sunday's pretty normal: racquetball and sittin' around relaxing, trying to pretend I don't have to go back to work on Monday.

I have the evening to myself and the day tomorrow to myself, which is rare, I'm just going to watch a movie tonight and tomorrow I'm not sure what I will do, read a book, relax, get in some exercise. It's supposed to get up to 100 here by Sunday and Sunday I have to work 16 hours and my work is not fun in that kind of heat, so I'm not looking forward to it.

You should try it! It's a workout that's for sure! I'm so sore today I can barely move. Works your inner thighs and arms a lot! I would be in good shape if I rode every weekend.

hmmm. I have to admit I'd be a little worried about doing it at my size. I know people here talk about doing all kinds of stuff at any size, but it's tough for me to think that way. I'm in good shape, but I'm a big gal.

dragonwoman64: Your statment of not feeling that you could do things at your weight made me think of one of my biggest regrets: I can't draw.

Seems like a stretch, I know, but bear with me. When I was in grade-school and there was a drawing or other art project in class, I always felt like my sketches had to look good (really good, not little kid good). Everytime I drew a line that was too crooked, or a shape that wasn't quite the right size, I'd get frustrated, destroy what I had done, and start over. Of course, since I was a little kid and didn't let myself practice properly, I never got any better, and I finally got to the point where I stopped even trying.

I think doing sporty activities while being large is kind of the same thing. When I started playing racquetball I was lousy: not merely bad, but really stinkaroo horrible. If the ball didn't happen to bounce right back at me off the wall there was a 0% chance I was going to hit it. But this time I'm giving myself permission to be bad and keeping at it no matter what: and every week I am getting better and better.

So, the very next time something seems interesting, but you're unsure: go for it anyway. Let yourself start at 0 if needed, you'll be surprised at how quickly you can get it.

thanks, Jen.

a big motivation for me this time losing the weight is that I want to be more active and able to do sporty things, like hiking, biking, kayaking, horseback riding, etc. I've been heavy since I was a kid, and was never very sporty. I never even really learned how to ride a bike. A challenge for me that is starting now is to take myself out of my comfort zone and work on DOING those things. I'm reinventing who I am. It's intimidating and exciting at the same time.
