Yes, I swear by Atkins for PCOS. I have never been medically diaganosed except with one ping pong sized cyst that went away on its own, but self diagnosed. I used to think low-carb was unhealthy too- I called it the Heartattack Diet when my friends ate bags of pork skins with cream cheese crab dip. Then I read about PCOS and low-carb potentially helping. I researched and found that low carb has many health benefits and most people I knew were not doing a healthy low carb.
I tried it and lost almost 50 pounds in a year. I don't know if it was just losing the weight or the effects of low-carb but I felt so much better. Shorter, less painful periods, no weeks and weeks of unexplained bleeding, and much better sex drive. Then we found out that after 9 years, we had a baby on the way. I immediately stopped low carb- even though my midwives reccomended limiting white carbs. At my six week checkup after baby I was back at my pre-pregnancy low weight. But because I was nursing I still did not return to low carb and have now put back on almost all my weight 2 years later. My PCOS symptoms have not returned thankfully, but we are ready to try for baby number 2, so I am trying to get back on low-carb now.
Best wishes on controling your symptoms with low carb.
