If you/ or your children have braces how much did it cost you?
I took my daughter to her orthodonist and I was told that she needs braces( upper and bottom) and has to wear them for 2 years, the cost is 6,000. I am wondering if this is the average price or a little high.
My 11 yr old daughter has them and we paid 1500.00, BUT that was our part after insurance. She has them top and bottom, and entire treatment will be 26-28 months. Hope this helps!
I wore them for 2 1/2 years (top and bottom). For everything (all visits, Xrays, and getting the retainer at the end), it was $4K although my insurance took care of $1K of that.
MANY years ago the price range was $1000-$2500 for braces. Now its $4K-$6K.
I had mine for $1400 but this was like 7 years ago. They worked alright, I had mine for 1 year.
Had my son in for consultation,,,was told 2 years for top and bottom,,,and it was $7300. OUCH we don't have dental insurance so Im job hunting to find the right insurance so we aren't paying the whole thing.
My son had braces from 2000-2003. The cost was total about $4K, insurance covered about $1.5K. He had full braces (top and bottom), headgear and a retainer, but did not require any teeth pulling or oral surgery. To my understanding, teeth pulling and oral surgery would add to the cost.
Yes it is Bev,,,and the part the bothers me also is that they aren't open after 3 in the afternoon, so I would have to take my son out of school each day,,,with me missing work also. Not cool.
Bev- another thing. ALMOST ALL orthodontists are convinced that the top and the bottom row need braces. CHECK with GOOD FAIR JUDGEMENT that he does need both- because I didn't need the bottom teeth reshaped but I had it done anyway because the orthodontist wanted his wallet to be fatter by the end of the day. Also- I had 4 molars removed just for the braces. Make sure you ask the orthodontist exactly what he plans to do. My mom was rather upset when she realized I lost 4 molars for the braces! (and imagine, my siblings! the three of us each had 4 teeth removed, that's 12 teeth! My mom was really really upset)
My daughter gets them in 2 years (she had an expander) -- we were quoted 6500K for braces and insurance will not cover them. Lord help me, my youngest is going to need them as well.
does anyone think it is a bad thing to go to several orthodonists for a second and third opinion. People have told me that I should not do this and just go with the orthodonist that she just had her appointment with. I figure what does it hurt if the drs I choose have free consultations.
My kids both had them for a total of $10,000, well worth it IMHO... I didn'T realise how bad their teeth were back then until I look at thier pictures...If the ortho recommends tops and bottoms, please listen to him/her, there is usually a very good reason, the teeth don't align or something to that effect that if you don't do the bottoms or vise-versa their bite could be off and that would cause other problems...
Bev I don't see why you shouldn't go see for a second or a third opinion, all's fair in love and war, dontcha know .... The orthos around here seem to all hold hands on a price though, so you may not see that much difference, and if that's the case, go with the one that has the best reputation... I'm not sure if this is appropriate but you could ask for referals too or if your DD has friends who wears braces call their parents to find out more info...
Prices may vary depending on what needs to be done, if your child only needs tops and no bottoms, the price should be different than someone that has a mouthfull of tracks ...
Bev, I think you certainly should go for other consultations. The price ranges MIGHT be different. In fact, one of my friends had their mother visit several, and they all bumped their prices lower just from hearing the other prices of the services.
Ilene, not that I don't agree with you, but I KNOW for certain that my bottom was the same as it was before in my orthodontist's "before" and "after" photos. (It was straight and well-aligned and didn't require braces at all)
