I've had 2 polder kitchen scales and been very happy with their performance (just don't spill 1/2 a bottle of olive oil on the controls-hence the second scale
).
My main suggestion, if you like to bake, is to make sure your scale measures in grams as well as oz (assuming you are in the US or similar). The more precise measurements are great for reducing recipies to smaller portions. I think almost all scales have this option now, though I have seen some where you have to toggle a switch on the bottom to change units-it's better to go with one that switches from the front panel.
My SO thinks I'm a fanatic, but I love my scale, and would be hard pressed to do a full day's cooking without it!
