Question Tired....still!!

Okay so I have been on Atkins with out slipping, cheating, going off the plan for four weeks now and I am tired...seems like all the time!

I am taking 30-40 carbs a day but only on veggies and "fresh food" not any sugar or processed junk.

I haven't had the energy to walk this week but I was walking 2 miles a day three days a week.

I even feel a little achey in my legs. Mostly I am just tired. I am drinking a lot of tea, I don't really like water althougth I do drink a reasonable amount of that as well.

What do you think??

Have you been tired the whole 4 weeks you've been on atkins?
Is this your first time doing atkins?
Are you getting at least 8 hrs sleep?
Are you taking a good multi vitamin?
Did you do a true induction for 2 weeks?
Water helps flush out the fat and toxins....get at least 32 oz a day!

For some, it takes about 6 weeks to get over the "withdrawals" atkins draws out. This may have alot to do with your tiredness.

Im also thinking, if you didnt do induction for 2 full weeks, your body may have not switched its fat burning mode yet. The 2 weeks induction gives your body a chance to switch from carb/sugar burning first, to fat burning. This usually takes a body 6-10 days to do. Thats when you should have felt tired. This may be why you are still tired.

Well, answer these questions, and we will see if I or anyone else can come up with some more answers for you.

Thanks for your post.

No this is not my first time...that was many moons ago. This is my second.
Sleep might be part of it...6-7 hours but that is pretty normal for me.
Yes on the multi and yes on induction. As a matter of fact after induction I felt pretty good but this past week and a half I have been dragging.

I suspect you are short of potassium. When you are on a low carb plan and drinking lots of water, potassium levels are depleted by urination. A potassium supplement could help. Just my humble opinion - but I did hear it from an endocrinologist.

Hi Tammy
How much water are you drinking? Ruth is correct that dinking lots of water depletes potassium due to frequent urination. Are you experiencing any pain in your calfs? That is usually a classic symptom of potassium depletion.

I've been on Atkins for a little over 2 years, I eat basically 25 carbs a day & drink 120 oz. of water a day. I take a multivitamin as well as biotin. I can't say I've ever experienced the tiredness you are describing. Perhaps you are anemic. You might want to consider having a Dr perform some bloodwork to be sure.

All the best to you,

Kim
