Question Fasts?

What is all this talk about fasts? How do they tie into Atkins and what exactly is a fat fast just staying away from all fat? Doesn't leave much to eat on Atkins then. For those of you who have dont this or the water fast, does it work? Have you put whatever you lost right back on? Do you think it's good to use when you have hita plateau for a while?

I had read on here about the 2 day egg fast. I had been stalled for 3 weeks and was very frustrated. You eat nothing but eggs for 2 days. I started this yesterday morning. By this morning I had lost 2 lbs. Hope to see some more loss by tomorrow. I did this because I was desperate to see the scale move. These last lbs. have really been hard for me. I don't know yet if the weight will come back or not, some others have said that it did not. Have never tried the water fast, I wouldn't be able to do that one. I also read about eating only 200 calories 4 x a day of macadamia nuts only for a couple days. Didn't try this either, think I'd feel like I was starving. If the weight stays off from the eggs, I'd be willing to do this again if I stall again.

Fat fast is not the avoidance of fat, but the eating of ONLY fat and keeping it to 1000 calories or less per day... UGH. I've never tried it. (This is part of Atkins). I can't let you know. I have done water fast. No it isn't supposed to be part of Atkins, but having done both I know that they are very similar in some ways. The effect on the body that is, the loss of hunger.

Does the weight stay off? Well I think the answer to that is the same as the answer to does it stay off if you go off Atkins? Yes and no. Some of it comes back immediately (same as if you start eating a lot of carbs). That part is water weight and undigested food. Does the rest come back? I'll let you know. I'm going to try my hardest to not let it. I feel like I've been cleaned out on the inside and all I want to eat lately is vegetables and very little meat. I did have some chicken last night and tonight I was hungry for salmon. So that is dinner. That and veggys.

Wow! That's great lillybelle! Way to go. I can imagine how frustrating it is to be that close to your goal and just stall.I hope the last few are a breeze now. THanks for explaining all the fast stuff!

I did the fat fast as outlined in the book when I wasn't losing weight. I picked the macademia nuts as my option because I didn't like the other foods on the list.

I did not get hungry at all, and I lost 11 lbs in 3 days the first time and 8 lbs in 3 days the second time. And it got my weight loss started again.

I ate 10 eggs each day. I did still feel hungry, but tried to fill up with water. Did my usual exercise. Didn't eat not one egg today, was pretty sick of them after the 2 days. I'm sure this isn't the healthiest thing to do, but I was soooo needing to see the scale move. It helped to re-motivate me that I can get the rest of this weight off. Don't plan to do it again unless I have another 3-4 week stall. Trying to do everything by the book but I just needed a little boost. Good Luck to all.

I've decided to fat fast next week starting Monday for 2 days. I have been eating good for almost a month, working out almost 5 times per week, minimum and the stupid scale won't move. I have lost inches, but I really want the scale to move too. Thanks for all the info you guys. I think I'll do it per the Atkins book. Wish me luck.

Best of luck with that Jackie. I can see how a whole month of that scale not budging can get you motivated for this fast! Be sure to come back and post here to let us know how it goes. I've only been on atkins for 3 weeks so I'm still doing ok but, when the time comes I'll do it too for sure!
Good Luck.

the egg fast sucks eggs (teehee) but it DOES work. I think I've done it three times now, and that's because I had hit a major pleateau and the weight didn't move. I like being in control and that did the trick...but I have to be REALLY desperate to do the egg thing because I hate eating them.

Just wondering - after the egg fast(s) you lost a decent amount of weight (I'm assuming) did the scale then go back up any?
