I have been on Atkins for three weeks and am starting on the fourth week. I lost 11 LBS on induction and have allowed myself 40 carbs a day now plus exercise. I have been very strict. I lost 1 3/4 this week. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? Anyone know??

Yes, during the first few weeks you are loosing excess water, after that you are actually burning\loosing fat. The body just doesn't loose fat as quickly as water, so your weight loss goes down. You can expect to average 1-2 pounds per week, with some weeks a little higher.

If you're wanting to lose more then try to keep your carbs at no more than 20 a day. The book states that if you go too high in carbs that you'll kick yourself out of ketosis and the body won't be burning fat.

hope that helps

That is a good average weight loss. If it is consistent, don't worry about it. Better that, than it going up. This is supposed to be a plan of eating that we can live with for the rest of our lives. Pesonally I'm beginning to wonder if it really is, but if you start thinking of it that way, then the 1 to 2 pounds a week is good.

Induction is not meant to go on indefinitely. Many have done it that way and they lose the weight really rapidly but they also gain it back very easily because the point is supposed to be about training yourself to eat in a way you can live with for the rest of your life. And no one can do 20 grams forever. At least that is my belief.

1 to 2 pounds a week of weight loss is what people are instructed to aim for.

Tammy, you are only allowed to pout if you move your lip in and out while you do it -- burns a few more calories.

It could have been the bars. Your body may not like them.

I don't stick to Induction now. The weight comes off slower, but I can live with it. I eat fruit and yogurt. I don't eat pasta, bread or stuff like that. Once in a while (about once a week or once every 2 weeks) I eat potatoes or corn.

that is about the time that you also stall with water retention, your body will hold water for about a week as you have been diurseing for a while now suddely it is afraid you will become in a drought and will hold the water until you show it you will give it all the water it needs. good luck!!

JMO, but after doing the 2 weeks of induction, I would have only increased carbs to 25 for a week or two. My experience with Atkins shows that if I had jumped to 40 carbs that I would either barely lose or maybe even gain. For going to 40 carbs, I think your weight loss was great. I was on 20 carbs for 6 months and when I increased to 25 carbs, I saw little loss. Think I stayed too long at 20. Now, almost 10 months into Atkins and I can only have 25-30 carbs without gaining . So this is what I'll have to live with. But, I am adjusted to it and can do it. Maybe my advice is not good, now that I think about it, if you can lose at 40 carbs, you are better off than me, because I will always have to have lower. Good Luck
