Default Feisty & Sexy 50 & 60 yr olds #141

G'day all,

I just have to say that I don't mind starting a new thread but then I don't have in front of me everyone's previous posts
So if I don't comment on anyone's post please don't think I didn't read it but at my age I need my memory refreshed frequently

I am having quite a good week with my visitor, it is always nice to show visitors the city you live in. My Dutch is improving as is her English. I am a bit limited walking wise so yesterday we went for a bit of a drive and it was a really nice day. She is so appreciative for everything we do (which isn't really that much) which makes you feel like doing that bit extra.
Tonight we will take her out to dinner and show her the casino. I don't like casinos but the casino complex here is quite spectacular and well worth a visit. Tomorrow morning she is on her way again to Sydney.

Slavika Your secret is safe with this gal . I have to disagree with you about being on your own. I always quite enjoy a few days on my own and do my own thing, have whatever I choose for dinner, like poached eggs, baked beans etc. and actually have control of the remote!!!! I am always pleased when dh is home again though. Next week he is in Sydney for 3 days.

I have to be off and get some lunch for my visitor.
See ya all tomorrow
Cheers
Maria

Hi, girls! Yes, I got my curly toe fixed. It wasn't a big deal and hasn't hurt much at all. I always seem to have a problem with pain medicine--that was the worst part of the whole deal, but now I just take aspirin once in awhile. I go back to the doctor tomorrow for a dressing change. Since it is about to fall off, I will be glad to have someone who knows what he is doing look at it. You can see the toe and it has a metal rod hanging out the end of it. Kind of gross!

We had a great weekend. My DIL cooked supper and had set the table with her grandmother's china and crystal for Kyle's BD. My, it was so pretty, but I am a paperplate kind of woman myself. We had to be so careful when we washed those things. And then Maddie's "Dorothy" BD party was so cute. She looked like a little doll in her ruby red slippers.

I have not had much time this week at work and am again off tomorrow to go back to the doctor. Anthrax, anthrax, anthrax! I am so sick of this subject! Seems like the terrorists won when we shut down our government until Tuesday.

Maria, I am so thrilled to hear that you are getting mobile again. And soon it will all be just like a bad dream.

Trudy - one of the neatest things I have ever experienced is seeing my children grow up and become responsible adults. I still have that joy to look forward to for the last one. He is in the process.

Lily - What is this about you working so much you can't check in? How are people reacting to the anthrax scare around you? We had two incidences of unexplained powder at our mail room and at vending the other day. They were both just powder and nothing serious at all. I think before this happened we saw powder in a lot of manufactured things and never thought a thing about it.

Take care, everyone, and have a great weekend!

Thumbs down Cooling down!

We are having our fall weather. 59deg. this morning. Everyone out walking with jackets.

Glenda: I'm with you. The media just does overkill all the time. And I'm sure ther has been lots of white powder in many places before, without all this attention. And how about the weirdos who have to get into the act and try playing a 'trick' on someone. They won't think it is so funny if they have to spend time behind bars.

Maria: Sounds like you are having an enjoyable time with your visitor. And I know what you mean about having to refresh your memory about posts. Some times I have to make notes for myself, so I can keep things straight.

Slavika: I think we all have the same sort of secret. It is nice now and then to be on ones own, eat what you want, or not, when you want, and have carge of the remote. But it is very nice to resume the partnership too.

Last night was one of those nights when I could not sleep and was out reading in the living room at 2:00a.m. until about 4:00a.m. So tonight it is hit the sack early. Hi everyone. See' you tomorrow. Ann

Default ....DH is home

Hi Everybody My DH did make it home a bit earlier then expected.....so no need for the "peanut trap" tonight.
Tomorrow night we are going to have the grandchildren over for a "sleep-over". They have been asking to have one, so they will be pleased. so will the grandparents LOL.
I worked on a Christmas craft project all afternoon today, but I don't want to say what it was in case I get ambitious and make one for you know who,.......the friend I have tea with every Tuesday, and she posts on this board with us.....but I am not mentioning any names.....that's all I'm going to say. LOL
Well I'm going to bed now, so good night all, talk to you tomorrow.

Default speaking of christmas

Slavila I'm still waiting for my tree skirt. Bet you thought I forgot

I sure will be glad when WW finds some one else to be leader at the Thursdays meetings. It sure make for a long week for me. Don't get me wrong I like what I do but I do get tired. There's is alot of back ground stuff that has to be done and the only way it gets done is if the leader does it.

I thought the topic this week was a important one. " Success Leaves Clues" It's really important that we focus on all the puzzle peices of weight loss. Not just the scale. Because as we all know the scale lies

I have been reading the board when I get a chance. Sometimes I even print out a thread and take it along makes for entertaining reading at lunch.

Maria I was glad to see you are getting better. And getting around. Sounds as if your company is fun to have.

Glenda Glad you toe is getting better. I am not a fan of pain but pain pills and I don't mix well either. Years ago when I had Gallbladder Surg. I was equiped with a thing that was called a "fast ten" it delivered electric current to the surgery area and stopped pain without pain pills. I have to say I recovered really fast and I really beleive it was because I was not so drugged up. Just my opion.

Ann You seem to be mastering the computer really well. Good for you I too agree the media just floods us with way too much information. I think we don't need to know every little sneeze that happens in the world. Keep us aware yes but not running scard!

Peggy Just wanted you to know that I've enjoyed all the web sites you've sent us too. And did you get all you snowman to where they need to go?

Trudy How are you? Watch out for Slavika if she decides not to give you what she is making she'll recuit you to help her make more.

Slavika By the way I tried those "Cheery Cherry Pastries" and I must say they were excellent. DH like them real well as did I. Will only make them again when I can take them some where else and they won't be in the kitchen calling my name.

Lily You must be busy. Hope you get some down time so you can let us know how you are doing. Did you ever go to work for WW? If I remember you asked about the WW e-Tools? There is a on line journal, a recipe builder that figures out you recipe points, an on line food companion combined with the Dinning out companion. On line points finder and activity points finder. Also a weight tracker, and a place for you write you thoughtsThen there is access to The WW Recipes. Also Meal planners. And they finally fixed it so you can put in your maintaince points.

Well it's time I put this weary body to bed

Karen

Hi ladies, Now I'm wondering what Slavika is making that she doesn't want you know who to find out. Maybe she can whisper it. We won't tell. Glenda I am happy to hear that you are doing well after your surgery. Maybe you could put a toe ring on the toe with the rod. A new fashion statement. I too am getting tired of the anthrax thing. They had a big thing at the local IRS building last week. Took a worker out in a big blue suit but it turned out to be nothing. A local restaurant worker found a vial of something on the salad bar and tasted it. He supposedly got sick. How dumb can you be? It also was nothing. I have a big 2 day craft show this weekend. The weather is supposed to nice but cool. Can live with that. We are in a huge tent. We are on the end so if it is hot we can go outside. But if it rains hard it gets a little mushy from all the umbrellas. They come in and shake them all over us. We got 20 snowmen assembled and named. We give them all names. It is funny how different they look even though they are all the same. I really like Jerome. Have a good weekend. Karen try to get some rest.

Default Humm.......Where is my Tree skirt???

Glenda: Glad your toe surgery wasnt so bad. I have always had problems with Pian Medication to. Makes me sick for some reason.
They have put extra security precautions in out=r mail roon due to the scare. Nothing has happen at my office.

Ann: Its cooling off here to. Time to bring out the sweaters. Course when I wear one it turns out to be hot. Fall is coming but its not making up its mind yet here.

Slavika: Christmas crafts already? Like Karen said, we never did get our tree skirts. ALAS........ I remember as soon as you said Christmas crafs

Karen: Never heard of the "fast ten" before. Sounds interesting. Hope they find a Leader for your meeting to. Im sure it is alot of added work, and you do need to rest to. Be interesting to see how my leader covers the topic this week. Will find out tomorrow!
No not working for WW. I am going to call them today as I never did hear anything further. I have been so busy lately at work that I havent had the time. But Im pulling out my Contact card now so I dont forget.

Peggy: We posted at the same time. Good luck at the craft fair this weekend! I couldnt name them, then I wouldnt beable to sell them Jerome is a cute name. Have to keep them if they have a name.

Everyone have a great day!

G'day all,

Back to just '2' again, my visitor left early yesterday morning. In 2 weeks time a cousin and her husband are in Australia on a holiday and will be in Melbourne staying with us for 5 days. That should be fun.

I have to agree with you all about the Anthrax scares. We have had so many hoaxes it is just ridiculous. It never ceases to amaze what sort of thrill people get out of reporting these hoaxes. Government is now talking of passing legislation that anyone caught gets 10 years jail, presently it is a maximum of 2 years.
I read that the Canadians are also sending troups to Afghanistan. Australia is sending troups next week. I still don't know if this is the answer to it all, but cannot think of a better solution either

Glenda good to hear you are well on the way to recovery. My steel rods are inside my toes and remain in place for the rest of my life, not half as impressive than having a steel rod poking out of your toe

Peggy good luck with your craft market. I love any sort of market and always have to stop at one should we pass one. I have even 'educated' dh and I think he almost enjoys them

I am going shopping with my dd this afternoon. I hope I can remember how to use my credit card , I will just have to practice lots to get back into the swing of it.

I wonder if any of you know what a 'blue wren' is. It is the most gorgeous tiny little bird which is bright blue. I am not a real bird person but love these little fellows. I have a couple of pictures of them and my visitor bought me yet another one. On thursdaynight I spotted a bronze little wren in an art gallery which dh bought for me I have decided to start collecting them as I come aross them in my travels.

DD has arrived so I better me on my way for the shopping spree!

Cheers
Maria

Thumbs down Autumn is here!

Hi everyone: This is the color of the seedpods on the rain tree that we have here in Fl. The closest we come to the Fall colors. It is a beautiful tree. Someday I'll be able to figure out how to post a picture.

I was a badn but also a good girl: today. Didn't go to WW as I went to an all day prayer retreat at our church. It was very good, and we all learned a lot about how to be better prayer warriors in the face of all that is going on.
So next week I have to face the scale again.

Maria-Glenda- So glad all the toes are doing well.Maria: I don't think it will take too long for you to remember how to use your credit card That is a skill I don't think we ever forget.

Slavika, Peggy- You crafty people are making me start to think about what I can do for Christmas. I just have to find the time to do anything in the crafty line.

Jerome is a great name. I agree, I don't think I could sell my named friends.

Tuesday is my dh surgery day. They tell him he will only be in the hospital overnight. They sure are in a hurry to put people out. Sometimes it is just too fast, in my opinion.

Lily: Sounds like you are very busy. I've have just made up my mind that I am not going to watch all the news anymore. I check the news on my home page, and read part of the paper, and that is it. I'm tired of all the speculation.

Looking forward to tomorrow night. Our church is having a Christian comedian It should be a fun evening, and a pleasure to hear funny stuff that is not smutty.

Have a good rest of the week end. Hi to Karen, Trudy, Geri. Talk to you later. Ann

Default ...who gets flu shots???

Hi Everybody I got my flu shot yesterday. I have been getting them for about 3 or 4 years. People with diabetes are usually encouraged by their doctors to have the shot. I have never experienced any effects from them in the past. Yesterday, after receiving my shot I went grocery shopping and ran into a gal I met at WW some time ago and she told me she had been to see her doctor. I told her I had gone too, but just for a flu shot. She said, she doesn't get them anymore because a couple of years ago she was really sick (with flu like symptoms) the day after. I told her I had never felt sick from having the shot. WELL......this morning I woke up and felt like a truck had run over me. We had the grandchildren here for a sleep over, and I could hardly get out of bed. Every bone in my body hurt. Our Son picked the children up around 11:00 AM and then in the early afternoon I had a nap for about 1-1/2 hours and now I am feeling quite a bit better. I think I would rather be sick for just a "few" hours, then days with a flu, but I was really surprised I was sick at all. Do any of you gals get flu shots?????

Our Son managed to see quite a bit of New York during the 4 days he was there. He said if a road had 3 lanes for the traffic you can bet the cars are travelling 5 abreast, with horns honking all the time. He, and the co-worker he was travelling with, got tickets to see Dave Letterman. He said the show is held in the old Ed Sullivan building and he estimated the show could seat approx. 2000 people. He did not make any effort to see the ruins of the Trade Center. He said, it was not a tourist attraction anymore. I guess that is certainly true.

We got a new VCR and between DH and I we tried to figure out how to work it...........GRRRRRRRRRR
My advise gals, do not try programming a NEW VCR with your DH.
Fortunately, DS came to our aid. I get so angry with myself when I can't figure things like that out for myself. It took him only a 1/2 a minute to show me what to do.....I mean it's simple enough.

Maria I hope you enjoyed your shopping date with your DD and that you managed to find something you liked. I tried to look up "blue wrens" but I guess that is not the "real name" of the little birdie, so I came up empty handed. Lily and Karen oh Lordy, I thought you gals forgot about those "Christmas Tree Skirts". I think since I am busy doing, "you know what" for "you know who", you should ask "you know who" for a tree skirt. LOL LOL Peggy how did your craft show go. Did you gals sell all your snowmen? Trudy I understand you are out again tonight, I hope you have a lovely evening.
Ann I think we all get those nights from time to time when we are just are not going to sleep. I either get up and read for a bit or come to the computer. Glenda my husband's Mother and her sister both had the same beautiful Royal Crown Derby bone china dinner pattern called "Mikado". When they both died, I inherted both the sets. It is white with a blue pattern of Japanese figures, trees, and I think pagoda's. It looks best if placed on a matching blue table cloth or white. It's a bit busy I guess but over the years I have grown to love it. When I first got it, I only used it on "very special occasions", but over the years I decided that my meals looked better and tasted better if they were served on these nice dishes. I actually use them quite often now. Well I guess I talked enough for one night, see you all tomorrow. Night.

Maria: I read that to about all the others getting involved in the War.
I just hate this whole thing. Really wish there was another way.

I have Wren's in my yard. Not blue ones tho. They are brown and very cute. Would love to see a blue one. Right now we have a crow (hate them) that sits up in one of our trees. I smear it gives the "WOO HOO" whistle. I tell my DH the bird has been hanging around to many construction sites. (he thinks Im nuts) Getting old but Im not nuts yet!

Peggy: Going to a craft fair here tomorow. Hope I find some cute things. I do start looking now for Christmas gifts. How did the sale go? Did you ever find out if the Snowmen were shipable? Would still love to have a set, they are so cute.

Ann: the only way to post a picture here is attach to the message. When you reply there is a box at the bottom to attach a image. Click on it and look for it on your computer. Double click and it will bring it into the box. then just click on new reply and it will post. Need help email me at [email protected]
Im not reading the news much anymore either. I have been getting the Newsweek at work tho. Its for someone else that I do not know.
So I bring it home and have been reading it. ( i know bad me, but I dont know who to give it to. If I did I would).
Your DH will be in my thoughts Tuesday. Keep us posted as to how he is.

Slavika: Us forget?????. No No. We may be old, but we remember the important things in life. Stopping here, as I also remember it caused a little commition last year. strangers coming in and asking for a skirt.
Oh my, your dinner set sounds beautiful. I have to agree on using it and making you feel special.
I dont have a full set of my Mom's, only 4 place settings. But I always pull it out when there are just 4 of us. And sometimes when its just me and DH. It really does add to the meal.

Did watch a great movie tonight. "Proof of Life" with Meg Ryan. I really liked it.
Way past my bedtime. So I best taddle off. And

G'day all,

Nice to have quite a few long posts to read
It is a glorious morning, I was up at 5.45 am (don't ask me why ).
I had a lovely afternoon shopping with DD. She tried out some new make-up for the wedding, we ended up buying it. It was sort of middle of the road price eventhough it soon adds up. DH was at the horse races. The Spring Race Carnival here in Melbourne is quite an event. DH doesn't really like horse racing but if you are in Melbourne you MUST attend one of the races. DH couldn't get over the fashions (for one who is NOT a fashion guru that really means something ). The ultimate is the Melbourne Cup which is on the first Tuesday in November, dh says we have to go and that I would enjoy watching all the fashions and hats that are worn that day. I hope I am able to wear something other than running shoes.

Peggy I hope the craft fair was a huge success.

Ann Good luck with your dh's surgery. It is the trend here as well to get people out of hospital as soon as possible.

Lily I have checked a bit further and the 'Blue Wren' that I am talking of seems to only be in Australia. I managed to find a picture that I have reduced and attached to this post. The male is almost electric blue but the female is a little boring being just fawn. The ones you get may well be part of the same family.

Slavika About flu shots. I don't get them for the very reason you mentioned. Everyone I know who does get the shots has a bad reaction. I cannot remember the last time I had the flu (probably shouldn't have said that!) and have never bothered. Hope you are feeling much better again. As far as nice dinner ware, I totally agree. I only use beautiful dinner ware and also think the presentation of food etc. is just so much nicer. I don't have a 'best' dinner set. I inherited from my m-i-l a Royal Albert bone china teaset which I have in a display cabinet. I have been tempted to use it but know I would have to wash it by hand, I am a bit of a 'if it doesn't go in the dish washer I wasn't meant to have it' person. I also love beautiful linen, with everything matching.
I hope I don't upset anyone but what is it about David Letterman. The only time I have seen him is when I cannot sleep and I see him in the early hours of the morning. I don't find him terribly funny, perhaps his sense of humour just doesn't appeal to me.
The driving in New York sounds a nightmare. Driving in Melbourne and in Sydney is bad but they do stick to their lanes.
Ah for peaceful little ol' Adelaide.

Well I have waffled long enough, have a great day all

Cheers
Maria

Angry Happy Day!

Good evening all:

Slavika: I have had a flu shot every year for many years, long before I retired from teaching. About the only thing I've ever experienced is tender spot on my arm. I really had to have them when I was in school with all the germs flying around, and now I just don't want to get the flu--or if I do, with the shot it will not be so severe.

Maria: The little blue wren is gorgeous. We don't have anything like that here in Fl. Up north we did have the North American Bluebird. a pretty bird, and in the days of DDT almost became extinct. But with careful planning, and everyone building hedgerow nesting boxes, they have begun to come back. Sounds like you had a nice shopping trip and didn't forget what to do. We had faith in you.

Peggy: Did you sell Jerome? Hope you had a successful sale.

We are having a lovely rainy evening. It is so good to see the lawns green again, and boats floating in the lake once again.

Lily: Thanks for the tip. As I get more and more familiar with this machine I'm getting braver. Now I know I can do the colors, I'm just lazy. My DH loves tv, and now it seems that I spend most of my evenings here fooling around with the computer, unless he finds something good to watch. Our tv tastes are quite different.

My Mom left me a lovely set of Homer Laughlin eggshell dinnerware, with a gold band. I just use it for special occaisions now. She also left me some great green depression glass in the Twisted Optic pattern. I've been filling that out on ebay. Got some really nice pieces. I know my girls like both, so now there will be something for each one, when I'm gone.Ilike nice linen, but not when I have to iron it. Sadly, we have become very casual now. The less fuss the better. Maybe it is not casual, just lazy.

Hi Trudy, Glenda, Karen "See' you all tomorrow. Ann

Default .....it's getting late

Hi Everybody it's getting late and for some reason I am very tired tonight so I just stopped by for a minute. Maria it sounds like you had a very nice time shopping with your daughter. Good.
As for David Letterman, I don't find him funny either, and I have never watched his "whole" show yet. I know the 30 something group seem to enjoy him more then my peers do. I maybe shouldn't make a judgement about it since I really don't watch it.
Your "little blue wren" looks so cute. We certainly do not have a bird like that here.
Hi to everyone, and I'll "see" you all tomorrow. Good night.
