Default % of carbs?

I was just wondering – when following a low calories diet. Roughly what should your percent be of carbs? Fat? Protein?

Thanks!

I eat around 1800+ calories a day and aim for 100+ grams of protein a day. I am usually around 50% carbs (whole grains, fruits, sweet potatoes, etc), 25%protein, 25% fat. My protein usually fluctuates between 25 and 30%.

Okay - I think I am doing okay then. If I look at my fitday for yesterday (as today is not done) I had 1697 calories - 16% fat, 53% carbs, and 60% protien. Not bad considering I ate Pizza, KD, and a Chicken strip for dinner! lol

I am still tweaking things and learning about what works for me, but I seem to get 25-30% from fat, with very little from saturated fat. I get 25-30% from lean protein, and the rest (40-50%) from carbs such as veggies, fruit, and whole grain products.

You may have to play around with the percentages for a while to see what works for you in terms of energy, health, and weight loss.

I am just trying to get a general idea. I try and stay away from carbs but I feel like I cant and I thought mine were high but I guess they are not too bad!

IMO, carbs as a food group are not bad, it's the refined and processed carbs that are bad. Carbs supply an essential source of energy to your body but the best way to get them is in whole grain form (and veggies, of course!). Stay away from the refined white carbs!

I am trying my best to stay away from the bad ones. Of course sometimes I can't help but. But I am getting MUCH better!

umm... I don't think that's possible. Percentages can only total 100% and
16+ 53 + 60 = 129%

60% protein sounds really high, when I know that people who really work at it get to 30%!

Just adding my 2 cents worth.....

I try to aim for a good 30 fat/30 protein/40 carb while having about 1400-1700 calories. I'm like you and really have to watch my carb content and always try to choose the high fibre/whole grain choice. hehe....my family doesn't even notice about the whole wheat pasta yet. All the white flour stuff and white sugars are killers and in my opinion are...calorie carb wasters. It all comes down to awareness and making better choices!! good luck!!
