Default Toes going numb with exercise

Hi everyone, I was wonding if anyone else has had this problem. My main form of excercise is walking and for some time now Ive been getting tingling in my toes after about half a mile of walking... I dont have any health problems that I know of, although I did have a back injury from falling down some steep stairs a few years ago... Anyone else with a similar problem?

I used to have this problem when I was biking - and it was because I was tying my shoes too tightly. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but once I took it easy on tying my shoes, I was fine.

Good luck on finding the cause!

Yup! I think its your shoes. You are either tying them too tight or that they're small or not fit for walking

Lady Jackyl, I have this problem a lot too, but I don't tie my shoes too tight. I do have slightly wide feet and I buy men's sneakers as I find they are built wider in the toes. I also bought some nice insoles.

I am so glad you asked this question becuase the have the same problem. I will try and not tie my shoes as tight this time when I work and and see how they feel. Again, thank you, I thought I was the only one.

I have the exact same problem! I have not been able to find the cause of it yet. Recently I even bought new workout shoes, but I'm still experiencing the numbness in my toes.

I have the same problem too!! Its my shoes!! If you are tying your shoes too tight this will happen. Or, if you have high arches (like me) and the space across the tongue of the shoe is too wide, the laces will cut across that lovely high arch and make your toes numb. I have to buy shoes that dont have wide spaces in the tongue area. When I tie up my shoes, I have to have those lace eyelets come in pretty close.

Hope that helped

Actually I have very low arches. This time I bought shoes especially designed for that and also added some foamier insoles. It is interesting that so many others seem to experience the problem too. I have tried tying my shoes many different ways and make sure they are done properly but I still have the problem often.

I wonder if my socks are too thick? I experience the numbness when using the machines like the elliptical trainer and treadmill. What do you think?

Something else I thought of yesterday as my feet were going numb while riding on my spinner bike - don't feet swell as you exercise? I'm wondering if at the start of exercising I tie my shoes loosely, but after 30 minutes I start getting the tingling because my feet are swelling? Just a thought...

Darlene I have tried it with various thicknesses of socks.

Kitty interesting thought about the swelling... perhaps I will try loosening my shoes after I have been walking a while.
