Default Steel Magnolias #6

Morning gals! Thought I would start a new thread as we are almost to page three! It was nice and mild here yesterday and we are supposed to get more of the same today, which will be nice.

I got the bedding for the spare room and it is really cute. I looked all over for clouds or hot air balloons, but couldn't find anything except stuff for cribs and couldn't even find anything in the blue scheme that would go with the room until I found this cute tie-dyed set at Overstock.com. I had to buy a bedskirt from Penney's and it isn't here yet so I hope it will match somewhat. I also bought these funky curtains that I think will look cute in there and they will be delivered today.

I am up again with the ole swollen adenoids bothering me and sneezing and such. I think I am just going to grab a blanket and try and go back to sleep in the recliner for a bit. The baseball tickets for the Chicago Cubs go on sale at 10 AM today so I am going to be trying to get 4 of them as soon as they go on sale so I may be sitting at my computer awhile this morning before we head down to the hotel for the weekend.

Everyone stay healthy! Jean, hope you are having a wonderful time!!!

Thanks, Gloria for keeping us at least on the second page! It is going to be beautiful here this week. Mostly in the 60's.

I imagine it won't be long and Jean will be back with us. Hope she had a wonderful time.

No big wins this weekend (though I did win $253 on a penny slot machine), but most of the hotel, most meals and even some cash was paid for so it was kind of a free weekend. Jack says with the money we give them, "IT AIN'T FREE!" He says it is more like a casino stock market! You may win money or lose money and they send the freebies to keep you betting!

Nothing much going on here now. I have all the stuff laundered and put back away and I now have the spare room all finished and it looks really nice. I have to go and get a longer coax cable for the tv as the cable is too short to reach the satellite box, but everything else is ready for her when she comes at the end of the month.

I sat for a dadblamed 2.5 hours at the computer trying to get "picked up" from what the Cubs site calls the virtual waiting room to buy tickets on Friday and never did. We had errands before going down to Tunica so we had to leave. When we got back around 10 AM on Sunday, I logged back into the site and the tickets were almost sold out for the WHOLE SEASON! We finally found 4 ok seats in the middle of Sept so I bought those. I am afraid it will be cold by then. We went one year for my birthday, which is Sept 28, and nearly froze to death. Ahhh, well, you do what you can do, I guess!

I have to get crackin'. I want to start touch up painting today besides my regular weekday cleaning.

Talking

Good Evening! We are home once again. I am trying to get caught up on laundry, sort through the mail, and unpack some more before I head off to bed. It's not nearly as much fun as getting ready to go.

Maui was wonderful and I highly recommend it!

I haven't read any of the posts so hope to catch up during the week. Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday tomorrow!

Morning gals! It is nice and mild here and woohoo supposed to be near 80 on Thursday!

Jean: HOME! When do you have to go back to the "adorable" students?

I am busy busy trying to get bigger things done before my sister gets here. I know I have a month, but I have a lot of bigger projects I would like to tackle.

Seems like they are moving out in droves here. The people just across the way had one of those pods put down on Friday and they loaded up and were gone yesterday and I noticed the walkway full of junk they want to throwaway that I am not sure the trash guys will take since we changed trash companies. We have approx 23 condos on our street and 5 of them are now for sale that I KNOW of. That doesn't even count the other ones scattered around the complex. The one that has been for sale for 18 months finally has a sold sign, but that doesn't mean anything as the deal could fall through. It did with them once before. The darn workers for the bank owned property next door came and trimmed the back and blew out the leaves and kids crap and of course half of it is now on my deck and the rest is in the walkway, which means I get to clean that up too! Really makes me MAD!

Not much else going on in my world. I guess I better get started on my chores and work I want to get done. I didn't get any painting done because my hip was acting up yesterday.

Later gals

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been around but a lot has been going on. Some of it is that I'm worried about my husband. We have an appointment tomorrow for a consultation with a cardiologist...and I've been really worried about that and trying to keep things cleared off my desk. To make a long story short, he had been complaining of difficulty in breathing, pains in left arm. Family doctor ordered a cardio stress test which he failed. Tomorrow is the consultation with the cardiologist. I'm going with him. Like I said I've been trying to keep my desk clear.

Jean, I knew you would have a wonderful time in Maui. DH wants to go to Hawaii--where specifically not sure.

Faye, sorry you haven't been well...but you won...was that all in pennies?! That's a lotta pennies!

Gloria, I love my new living room. Heck, I love my home!

Gail: Don't panic about the cardiologist. If they have to do any procedure at all, these days they have come a huge way. If he needs a stent (sp) that is fairly easy and not too much stress on the body as Gloria can tell you as her dh has one too and Jack has 2. If it is more serious, we will be here for you and will help you through it.

Gail, I will add to what Faye said. My DH, another Jack, had 2 stents put in a number of years back. They are still working, well! Up until his knee gave him problems he was walking 5 miles a day. Last January he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and the anestheologist said the he was able to tolerate the anesthesia very well and he has had no problem from that. There is so much they can do, today, and it is great that your DH is seeing the cardiologist. Nothing is worse that having something wrong and not knowing just what it is. The mind has a way of making the lack of knowledge a bigger deal than it should be.

Good luck to you both.

Faye: You will be having a lot of new neighbors....hope you get some really good ones. Don't work to hard.

Jean, HOME !!!! Take it easy getting back into the routine. What doesn't get down now will just wait for you to get to it.

Still quite cold here...

Gloria in Ma...keeping warm

Good Evening! I don't know where the hours after school go but they disappear in a hurry. It's been a windy day in my corner of the world and our snow is pretty much gone again.

Our trip to Maui was the best! I'm sure that it helped going with another couple who had been there and knew where to go and what to see. We went whale watching and they are amazing creatures; they travel down from Alaska to have their babies where it is warm and then back to Alasaka to eat after the babies have doubled their birth size. The adult whales don't eat while in Hawaii which doesn't seem possible for as big as they are. The whale watching people have names for the different ones -- they can tell who is who by their tails. I thought they all looked pretty much alike. We could watch the whales from our deck any time of the day. The guys went deep sea fishing but didn't catch anything; we gals went on a second whale watch trip at the same time. We did a luau, drove the rode to Hana (won't do that again!), spent a day in Honolulu to visit Pearl Harbor and a pineapple plantation, went shopping, and on our last night there we went on a dinner cruise and saw more whales up close to the boat. We had one afternoon to just hang out -- weather was perfect at 80 degrees. Our hotel had several parrots in cages around the lobby area. People would try to get them to talk and could have their pictures taken with them. We are definitely going back again.

'Gma' -- Thanks for the 'welcome'! Sounds like you have been busy getting ready for your sister to visit. Your spare room sounds pretty spiffy! I went back to school yesterday. We have more days off, in March, than we are in school. We have an in-service half day this Friday, then go a whole week, the next week we get out two days at 1:00 for conferences, have no school that Friday, and the whole next week is off for spring break. We've already been warned the calendar won't be like that next year.

Gail -- Please keep us posted on your visit to the cardiologist. I'll keep positive thoughts coming your way. I can imagine how worried you must be. Honolulu has become so commercial and taken over by the Japanese -- high rise buildings, freeways, lots of traffice, etc. Maui has the people and 4 lane highways, but appears to be more relaxed and sort of rural in comparison. They do have K-Mart, Wal-Mart, as well as lots of neat tourist shopping areas. I would definitely recommend Maui with a day or two visit to Honolulu if there are things there that you definitely want to see and do.

Gloria -- Thanks for the 'welcome' home. It's nice to go but always good to get back home again. There's no bed like one's own!

It is time to head off to bed. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning ladies! It is going to be a beautiful day again today. It got up to 70 yesterday and was so nice I even wore sandals to the commissary.

Jean: Sounds like you had loads of fun. Sorry you had to go back to work right away though. No time to come down from vacation high! When you retire from the Navy, you are honored with a flag from anywhere one flies in the world over a US anything, ie embassy, military base, etc. Jack's flag is from the USS Arizona. What they do is take down the one that is up there and hoist a new one up then and give you a flag. It is kind of cool. He has a flag box that was made for him with his medals in it.

YUCK! The bank people were next door yesterday and hauled out FOOD from that house to put into the garbage today. Those nasty people left their food in the refrigerator when they moved out last Sept! No wonder we had vermin from time to time. Thank God for the cat as they seem to stay put!

I need to get going.

Have a good day everybody!

Good Afternoon! The sun has disappeared after being out all day. It's been another windy day and the computer says it is 53 degrees outside. I could use another 20 degrees added to that! I'm finally getting caught up at school; the young man who subbed for me is now employed full time as an aide taking the place of the Mexican they hired who had no skills. She couldn't read English so was no help to anyone.

'Gma' -- A flag is a nice retirement gift. I wonder if all branches of the service do that. I'm surprised they won't have to pitch the refrigerator along with the rotten food. How gross! I hope you get some nice neighbors this time.

I need to do some more laundry and wrap a baby gift that I should have delivered before we left. It's a good thing I bought a larger size so the baby won't have outgrown it already!

Have a terrific Thursday!

Good morning gals! What a beautiful day it is here today. It got up to 76 yesterday and I even had to turn on the AC last night. It is cooling off though as it is 64 right now and only supposed to get up to 66 today.

Jean: They hired someone at an English speaking school who couldn't read English? Ooooh, big help that had to be! Looks like they finally got that nasty condo all cleaned out now, but the other condo owners are all upset because they messed up the garage door and it is hanging all lopsided and looks trashy. I talked to the lady directly across from them who is moving and she said she has lived here 10 years and has seen everything. She has renters on both sides of her and has had problems with one of them (and I know who she is talking about) They have since moved out. I figure some investment company will buy the one next to me instead of a family and there you go. I will have renters on both sides of me also! UGH! Don't get me wrong, we were renters for years and years, but we behaved ourselves and didn't make a lot of trouble for anyone even when the kids still lived there. The lady across the way told me several months back she was moving her trash in the garage and she had her little girl with her (she is around 9 I think) and a huge rat ran out from behind the can and jumped on her DD! We luckily haven't seen any for quite awhile now, but she said this one was so big it would have killed my dog and probably my cat! UGH!

Gail: I was lucky, as they have ticket in ticket out machines at this casino so no pennies changed hands!

I guess I better get hopping as I want to get some upstairs cleaning done.

have a good day everyone!

Just a quick post this morning. It cooled off last night and is in the 40's this morning, but it still supposed to be a nice day in the 50's.

I just have the icks this morning and it may be not sleeping well last night. I had to get up a lot to go to the bathroom then I would get hot then cool off then hot etc which wakes you up all the time.

It is quiet around the house. I have yet to go out and get the paint, but hope to do that this weekend and get some of it done. I have a list of stuff to get done again before my sister gets here in a few weeks so we are going to work on it tomorrow I think.

I will peek in later.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Not much newsy from my corner of the world tonight. We got out of school at 11:30 today; special ed. teachers spent the afternoon working on a 'new' IEP computer program, regular staff had to work on calling parents (how many were home to talk to I wonder) to set up appointment times for conferences, and I spent 3 hours correcting papers and putting things away because there is a speech contest tomorrow and the rooms will be open to anyone and everyone. We even shove our desks up against the wall so if anyone wants a pencil they will have to work for it!

We made a flying trip to see the kids for supper. This is Beth's weekend to work and our weather is supposed to be freezing rain tomorrow. I'm hoping to visit my 'mom' tomorrow because she had a knee replacement yesterday, but we will see what the weather is doing.

'Gma' -- When we lived in Ohio, we rented a condo that was owned by an investment company and had individual owners all around us. We treated it as if it were our own; I can't imagine it any other way. I am amazed at how some people live. I hope you got in a nap this afternoon!

I am off to bed! Have a great weekend.

Good morning gals! I hope your start to the day is good! It turned chilly overnight, but supposed to be warming back up into the upper 60's and 70's.

Jack is still snoozing. I know he sat down here late and watched a movie then went back up to his office for awhile and probably played some computer games. I stayed up and watched Las Vegas, which was a hoot as usual last night, and some old CSI programs on Spike tv before turning in. I hate that they changed Las Vegas to Friday nights because we go out on Friday nights sometimes and I have no way to Tivo or record it.

Jean: When my dd was in Debate and we would help with Debate meets at Penn, we would always make sure no one could get into the desk too. The rooms were all open and available as were things like the teacher's lounges etc and we didn't want people walking off with stuff. This school is pretty much opposite of yours. They were so hoity toity, that the janitors went into the restrooms DAILY and repainted if anyone had scribbled graffiti on anything. The school was absolutely pristine and HUGE! Of course, a good percentage of the kids parents were rich so the school could afford to be that way. We just happened to live in an apartment complex close by so it was her school.

Well, I hope everyone has a good weekend. I am going to sit and finish a book until Jack gets up then get some work done today I have been putting off.
