Christina~~You were misinformed about SB. It is nothing like Atkins. There is no ketosis. Foods are low in carbs but you are allowed good carbs. Lean, low fats meats and whole grains. Check out the "sticky" on the top of the theads titled Freq Asked Questions~ there you will find tons of SB info including foods allowed on phase 1, 2 and 3.

Hi Lost...! Hmmm, well there aren't many parrallels with Atkins.. The premise of south beach is carbs, and their effect on stable blood sugar-- so the GI (Glycemic Index or load) of certain foods is what determines a BAD carb from a Good Carb. For example,
Atkins focus on Fat and Protein , and LOW carbs to put you in Ketosis

SB: Focus is on Balance, and SLOW carbs, where you won't go into Ketosis

Atkins: focus on number of carbs per day regardless of source

SB: no focus of # of carbs, the focus is on taking in Good Carbs.. That is most vegetables in Phase 1, in Phase 2 you can add back in WHOLE GRAIN breads, and some fruits.

Atkins: No real discussion on types of Fat

SB: Stresses to stay away from Trans and Sat fats..

There are others that I'm sure our other Beach Babes can add!

Welcome our Lost Lamb! and good luck in finding a plan that's right for you!
