Default Low Sodium Cheese???????

Does anyone know where I can get very low sodium cheese?

Since going through hormonal issues and putting on so much weight my blood pressure became elevated to the point that I'm now taking medication. As you know sodium is a no no with high blood pressure.

I really like cheese , but I can not find any that is low low sodium. I just came from the Neighborhood Walmart and purchased mozzarella cheese sticks but they are not low in sodium.

Any suggestions?

I know they usually have some in the deli case at our grocery store, plus you can get them sliced thinner than the prepackaged.

Some cheese sticks are low sodium but some like Frigio are extremely salty

good luck

My dad, who has been on a low sodium diet for nearly two years, has always mentioned Swiss cheese as a naturally lower-sodium cheese. And our deli sells Swiss cheese slices with 15 mg of sodium in a serving. I'm not sure of the fat content, but I know they sell reduced fat Swiss, so that might be your best bet.

I buy low sodium cottage cheese at vons/safeway (lucerne brand) - not sure if you are interested in cottage cheese but it's something. :P. Another option is making your own yogurt cheese, which still has sodium from the milk but no added salt.
