Default Exercise help needed.

I am starting my diet today and I was wondering what I could do for exercise... in doors. Its Winter and Wisconsin and I am afraid to walk outside alone (I was held up at gun point and some guy tried to mug me... I say tried because my best friend and I had no money whatsoever. Its was 2 blocks from my house) So I don't know what I can do to exercise and such. Any Ideas?

Dance! Put on your funkiest cd, or even the radio, and just dance!

If you have stairs, run up and down them. Or walk in my case, I don't do running!

Lunges, squats, sit ups, none of which need any equipment.

Try reading through the Exercise threads in that part of the forums, there's some great ideas there.

There's a great site by Krista Scott Dixon that is stumptuous.com . She even has a weight lifting routine you can do with household items

I agree with kykaree. Before I joined the gym I used to do everything she mentioned -and it was fun! The important thing is to incorporate as much more movement as you can, especially in the beginning. I'd do jumping jacks while I was waiting on the coffee to brew. Or, if I was cooking and waiting on a pot of water to boil I'd run in place. I think sometimes we get caught up in the idea of "formal" exercise when, really, ANYTHING that gets you moving and gets your heart pumping is good for you.

I used Denise Austin's tv show on Lifetime - I would tape it (and then both shows when she added the second one) and do them when it was convenient. There are those that find her annoying but I can tune things out - what I liked it each day was a different workout as I get bored quickly. I still use her when I have an injury.

PS - we lived in the La Crosse area for 7 years & miss it very much! If you have a mall nearby - that is a good place to walk also although it is much harder to make yourself go but if you meet a friend there - it helps!

Another low cost option might be to look into community programs - maybe your city or your local YWCA/YMCA has jazzercise or aerobics or something.

The malls often open early for walkers - a safe warm place to walk is very important. (I'm so sorry that happened to you! )
