Default Question about weight loss during an illness

So I've had the flu for a few days haven't been able to keep much down food-wise. I've been able to stay pretty hydrated, just haven't had an appetite to keep anything down. I was just wondering if the weight loss I see from being sick and not able to each much is true weight loss or not??

As long as you are staying hydrated you are likely seeing mostly real weight loss. Although, you are sure to have at least some water weight loss as well. I wouldn't worry too much about the scale just yet. Give yourself a week or so after you've become well before weighing again. You should get an accurate reading at that point. Be very aware of your eating patterns once your illness has passed. After not having food for so long you may feel ravenous once the flu is gone - don't go overboard.

Exactly. (and congrats on your weight loss!) You may feel the need to "treat" yourself after not eating, but that is just the start of bad habits and binging, IMO.

I had major jaw surgery in 2000. I lost about 10 lbs since my jaws were closed with rubber bands and I had to feed myself carnation instant breakfast through a syringe for 2 weeks.

As soon as I started eating again, all the weight came back immediately.

I would not recommend illness/surgery as a way to lose weight!!
