Maybe I'm walking differently?

  • The school year is starting and EVERYONE is commenting on my weight loss.
It's like many are either just starting to notice or finally wanting to say something. I think a couple of people haven't recognized me right away!

Most interesting to date -- a student I had spring term commented on my weight loss. He didn't even know me before March, when my weight was in the mid-220s, and I've only lost about 15 pounds since the end of that term. I guess about 30 since he met me. As I write that, I realize it is quite a bit, but it's only a 3rd of my overall loss!

I think a part of it is I'm wearing smaller clothes, and perhaps walking with a new spring in my step.

I gotta say, I'm liking this "new me".
  • That's so wonderful!! What a good feeling! You've done such a great job and you must be proud of yourself (as you should be), so I'm sure you're carrying yourself differently and people will notice that along with the weight loss. I'm looking forward to when my students and other people start noticing, but unfortunately on my body a 25-pound weight loss is about as noticeable as a clipping of the toenails. I'll get there, though, and I'll share your joy! Woohoo!
  • You skinny thang, you! Must be walking on air with your successes!
  • It takes a lot to get a compliment from a kid! Way to go!!!
  • well done. I do believe a lot of it is how we carry ourselves....
  • It seems like once you get below 225 each pound becomes more noticable, at least that is how it works with me. i am so excited for you, that is the best feeling. Hold on to that feeling for when you are tempted to stray.
  • It's a great felling isn't it? I had similar reaction from people when I went to school. Congratulations on your success.
  • Quote: It takes a lot to get a compliment from a kid! Way to go!!!
I agree.. and I am really happy and proud of you
  • Lisa -- When I went home last Christmas I had lost 50 pounds (starting from 295) and no one noticed!! So I think Stacy's right, the lower we get, the more each pound counts.

As for kids noticing, I teach at a college, and the kid is 19 or so, but yes, still, for him to notice and say something. I am walking on air, and I guess that looks thinner!
  • Wyllenn -

It is so wonderful that people are noticing and complimenting you - you deserve it! So much of weight loss is a "solo endeavor" that it's nice when we can "share" our success with others.

Keep on keepin' on (or should I say, "Keep on keepin' it off"??)
  • How awesome is that?? Congratulations!!!
  • You are probably holding your head higher as well----------Congrats! Sometimes even just attitude can change how you look (even though you are obvioulsly much skinnier as well).
  • Way to go Wyllenn! 30 pounds is indeed quite a lot of weight! It too, doesn't seem like as much to me because it's only such and such portion of my total goal, but when I stop to think about it - 30 pounds IS a big deal!

I'm so happy for you. I hope you are glowing and enjoying your "new self"
  • Thanks -- for me the funny thing is that 30 pounds is less than 1/3 of what I've lost overall! So this kid who says I've lost weight doesn't know 2/3 of that loss!

And yes, I am soooo glowy!!
