I weigh daily....I have to do it in order to keep myself motivated....works for me!:D
|
I tried weighing myself only once a week, but that just made me TOO anxious!!! Morning weigh-in's and before I go to bed work really well, for now, anyway (smile)!

thanks kykaree, I think that's a great way to put it - our own scale personality.
I've weighed myself frequently before and like you, I think I would prefer to not weight myself frequently - but with that, how do you know if you're losing at all or enough or not too much? For instance, not above two pounds a week or 10 a month? do you gauge how you do based on your eating and exercise, and then as you lose weight you can tell by clothes? |
thanks everyone :) - I like how Kykaree put it, finding our scale personalities. I'm going to experiment and try the once a week, hopefully I'll be able to resist weighing myself at all other opportunities (I don't have a scale at home, and the one at the gym is at the front of the lockers which can be SOOOO hard to avoid!) Maybe once I get going a little and settle into a routine I'll try the once a month. I feel like I'll be tempted to get on the scale at every opportunity although I know that would drive me crazy!! hehe... I wonder if whoever invented the scale (or human scale) ever knew what it would one day become!
cheers and peace to all! |
I HATE weighing in. One thing is I need a newer/better scale. I make myself weigh in every Wednesday though.
|
I have weighed once a week for the past four years, whether I was actively trying to lose or not. Sunday a.m., first thing out of bed, use the restroom and no clothes.
I agree with all who said you need to find what's comfortable for you. |
I weigh everyday. My problem is I take it to heart and feel like a failure if there is a gain or no change. I have been struggling with losing for months now. I have decided to let it go and weigh when I want but I think I will start a chart for it here on my computer.

I have been doing this since Jan. 2, 06 and have weighed 2 times both at the doctor. I have lost 67lbs. Just went to the doctor today. For me, I need to stay focused on the goal of eating healthy and excerising. I hate to weigh because it keeps me from focusing on the my real goal, to be healthy long term. It upsets me too much to see the up and downs. But it is all what motivates you and what you are comfortable. If you eat right and excercise, the weigh WILL come off.

I sneak a peek once every couple days but don't officially "record" anything until Sunday-- I weigh in once a week. I have to get up, go to the bathroom, move around for at least 30 minutes THEN weigh. If I weigh right out of bed, I weigh more! Isn't that CRAZY! I look forward to weigh in day. It's kind of exciting you know?

I used to weigh myself every morning but then I got off my diet. Now that I'm back on I'm going to try and weigh myself every monday.

I have one weekly official weigh in day on Wednesdays that I use to post for accountability/history. However, I weigh every day before breakfast and post this in my journal. By keeping a food/exercise journal, I even expect the gains and losses each week. By seeing the fluctuations daily I learn more about my body and how it reacts to TOM, salt intake, certain water retainment due to exercise or my daily water intake. I use to weigh more than once a day, but as I get closer to goal I'm not as obsessed with the number, but by my healthy living. Once at maintenance I will probably still weigh in for my own accountability with a "high ceiling" number not to go over before regaining control again.
You do have to somehow move yourself beyond the obsession of the scale to allowing the scale to be more a tool to educate about yourself. |
when I first started out I didnt weight myself very often. I started then about 1 time every 2 weeks, then every week, then once a day. I weight myself everyday at the same time in my underwear just to make sure something insane didnt happen. The number of the scale doesnt mean so much to me.
Here's a thought. Weigh yourself in a different measurement than you use in your country (like pounds if you use metric, or kg if you use pounds). You'll be less paranoid about the number because I think it won't mean the same to your brain. |
oh Lewelaine, that's such a great idea - I've never even heard it before! I use the scale at the gym, so it's the same type of scale that doctor's have in their offices (they seem old but truly reliable). I'll see if I can avoid checking the pounds though I think the lb vs. kg markers are right next to each other so I might not be able to.
As for obsessive weighing, the scale in the female locker room is located in a very public place so it's hard to get privacy, and I don't want to step on the scale while five people are changing into and out of their knickers. Because of that I can't always weigh myself, though I really wanted to today! (and every time I see it! - and I have to pass it by to get anywhere in the lockerroom: lockers, bathroom, shower, benches, you name it!!) Haha.. probably a blessing in disguise! |
Hi!
In trying to figure out the mistakes I made and come up with a better overall weight loss plan, I discovered that for me my biggest mistake was NOT weighing myself regularly. I started actually AVOIDING the scale. By doing that, 100 pounds just slipped onto my body over a 30 year period. Funny how that just happened... Now, I weigh myself every morning. I need to do that to keep myself honest and NOT to go back to where I once was. I am down 50 lbs. and have 52 more to go to get to my goal. Right now, though, my mini-goal is to reach 199. Just having a one in the front of the number will really motivate me to reach my ultimate goal of 160. Good luck to you on YOUR journey! Cheryl |
I get on the scale every morning, but only count my weigh in once a week on Saturday mornings.:p
