Yell Something Nice!

I'm biking to work again. I'm doing a "Burn Fat, Not Oil" political/fitness statement... albeit a very sweaty statement. :)

Biking to work everyday has been much harder than it was in the past. Before, I would do every other day (or just when I felt like it). Now, it's seems like the hills are harder and I'm much more out of shape.

However, EVERYDAY someone says something nice to me. Usually in my afternoon bike home. Today THREE people yelled words of encouragement.
"You got your thing going on!"
"You go girl!"
"Lookin' good!"

Two of those statements were from other women (one of those women was a plus-size latina woman). Wow. At first, I was a hair embarassed. Now I smile and wave. Grin like a fool. Shout "Thanks!"

And it makes me feel a lot better. So, I'm encouraging you. Yell something at the next person you see working hard. Let them know you're proud of them - even if you have no idea who they are!

YAY Jessica! :cheer:

I remember quite a while back when this happened to you before...it was when you were first trying to beat that hill!!!

I think that's wonderful!
I always cheer inside my car..but haven't done it out loud yet!

Wooooooooooooo!!! Awesome Jess!!

kykaree 06-15-2006 02:13 AM

It's so cool when that happens. I just did my first organised run, a 10k, and all sorts of people yelled at me (nicely) and boy does it push you on.

I wanna find someone to yell at now!!! :D

ME TOO!!

Yesterday, I rode my bike to work for the first time. It's only 2 miles and was really no problem! There ARE hills, and I think I had a) made them bigger in my head than they really are (they are tiny!) and b) underestimated my fitness level (for once!)

I'll think I'll be doing that again...

You GO Jessica!!

There is no way I could bile to work for 2 reasons: 1) I don't have a bike and 2) I have an hour long commute to work, all highway. There is no way I could bike it all...unless I leave at 1-2 in the morning and want to get home at 5-6pm ( I already work from 5am to 3pm).

I'm always proud of people taking their bike to work. I'm almost jealous.

:carrot: :carrot: Yeah ! Godess Jessica and all the other bikers:carrot: :carrot:
You go girl!
You get that hill!

Jessica~I just love how much you love life. Biking, surfing, Hawaii! You are such an inspiration! Last time I was on a bike, I was...13...and I fell off. I am a chicken, I admit it...

Wow...the fact that I am even considering getting on a bike is HUGE!!

ScarlettDrawl 06-15-2006 11:07 AM

That's awesome. I'm dying to start biking again. I can't wait till DH and I can buy ourselves new bikes. He's been talking about it a lot lately and getting me excited about it again. Here's a shout for you --->"You go girl, work it!"

JESSICA... Thanks for sharing that info with us! I think it's great what you're doing and how some people are still kind and nice!;)

midwife - *blush* Thank you. That is so sweet to say! And you should consider it. I bet that the Rocky Mountain region has some awesome bike trails!

Thanks for all the shout outs. Today, some jerk in a car shouted over and over again, "Need to do a LOT of bike riding!" Finally, I blew him a kiss and he stopped.

I was dwelling on it going up the hill *mumble mumble stupid jerk* and then I was like, "Frak that. A lot of other people were awesome and I'm not going to let some schlub ruin my ride." And I didn't. It was a great ride.

Good for you! I love that you blew him a kiss!! :)

it probably hurt his brain coming up with that one comment, ha (so he had to repeat it to make it worth the effort).

Great going with the bike. I work out of my apartment so no commuting done here. I'm a little embarrassed to say I never learned how to ride when I was a kid, when I finally buy a bike I'm going to have to start from scratch. Makes me a little nervous. Nothing ventured....

I am a homemaker so... I keep trying to tell myself that I am going to buy a behind the bike carrier for the youngest (22 mo) as for now I try to get at least a daily walk (when it is not raining) the 22 mo in the stroller and the 5 year old on his bike (it has the training wheels still on so he does not go faster than I can). The bike ride to work is a great one and that gives you 2 times a day to ride it.

Don't ever let the negative ones get you down. You can do anything that you want to and you look great doing it.

That's really sweet! I'll have to remember that when I'm feeling cynical. AKA when I'm driving.

Sassy_Chick 06-17-2006 09:25 PM

:cheer: Great Job! You are an inspiration to us all! :D
