Four jelly doughnuts

  • I can't believe I just ate four jelly doughnuts. Not because I was hungry, just because they were there. It's 4pm and I've eaten 1650 calories (which is about 300 more than I'd have all day, ideally).

I've been so good this week, too. Darnit. My question is: Do I still eat dinner (a 300 calorie meal) in a few hours and bump my calories to nearly 2000 for the day, or stop eating for the night? Which would be "better" for weight loss, after this huge flub?
  • Are you hungry? Don't try to deprive yourself if you are. But if you'd only be eating to stick to your "schedule" and you don't actually feel like you need it, leave it. In the greater scheme of things being a couple of hundred calories over on ONE day isn't a huge thing, and not worth "punishing" yourself for by depriving yourself of food if you're hungry. But if your body is telling you it's had enough, then listen to it!
  • Helen - you are soooo wise - perfect answer!!

    What she said!
  • Good answer Helen!!

The idea of punishing ourselves for one slip seems to happen to a lot of us. Adjust the way you feel is best. If you are eating just to eat don't but like Helen said if you are truly hungry eat something otherwise you will be starving in the morning. We all have moments like this but they seem to get to be less and less as time goes on. Remember this has to be a lifestyle change not just a diet so slip ups really won't seem like much later on when you on you way to even greater success!!

So....dust the powdered sugar off and just start over....YOU can DO IT!!

  • Great response Helen. So how did the evening turn out for you Kashi?

  • Thanks for the good words and advice, everyone!

Dee, it actually turned out quite well! I ended up going to the gym (which I likely wouldn't have done otherwise, since yesterday was an 'off' day), and wasn't hungry all night. I sure was when I woke up this morning, though! I don't think it'll be a major set-back, and I'm not as mad at myself for doing it as I usually would be.

    You guys are awesome!
  • WTG Kashi! It sounds like you handled that bump very well!
