Well I know I answered this post. I must have forgotten to save it or something.

Congratulations on the 70 pounds! That really is fantastic! Don't let the rest of the journey frighten you. Just look ahead 3 or 4 pounds and take those off. Anyone can lose 3 or 4 pounds. You lose 3 twice and 4 once and that equals another 10 pounds gone! But don't even look at the 10 pounds, just keep plugging on. You can do it. You've proven that already.

I lost 50 in 2000 and was discouraged with myself because I still had so far to go. Then over the next two years I managed to lose about 10 more, and was more discouraged because it didn't come off as fast as the first 50.

But I wasn't sticking to plan, wasn't making adjustments along the way to make the weight stay off better and finally I "gave up" and started gaining it all back. I never gained ALL of it back, caught myself before I got there, but I did gain all but 13.5 pounds of it back! Horrors! This after keeping the 50 off for 3 years or more.

That is the danger of looking too far into the future with worry. Just look at this month and make a determination that you will lose 3 pounds this month. Once that 3 pounds is gone set a new goal for 3 more. When that is gone set a new goal for 4 pounds. At the end of that 10 more pounds will be missing and you can start the cycle all over again. It can be done, you've already done it, just don't look at the big picture, focus on what you can do. No one (in the looking ahead) can lose 70 pounds... It is too overwhelming. and yet you did! So don't think about it, just do it. Little baby steps all the way.

Isn't that the case for any amount? The challenge is to be excited about every pound lost - even every pound NOT gained. It's a funny thing - very buddhist. Be in the moment now. Don't look behind you (oh look how many times I've failed), don't look too far ahead (oh look how much I still have to lose). What are you doing now?

70lbs is amazing! You should definately look at how far you've come and like what was said above, focus on it in 10lbs each.

I always look at how far I've come and try not to look at how much I have still to go. You're going great though :D :D

Wow, 70 pounds is a great accomplishment! I'm going to echo what's been said already and suggest breaking it up into smaller increments. It has worked really well for me. (however, as I'm saying this, the other side of my mouth is grumbling about what I still have left to lose, so I can definately relate). Congratulations!
