Guindalf's Quest Fighting the Battle

  • Good morning. In my initial post I said that I was tired of fighting all the time, fighting the food battles, fighting low self esteem, etc.

And I've been thinking about the way we refer to losing weight in battle terms:

    battle of the bulge
    winning/losing
    conquering the demons
    defeating the cravings

and on and on. Can you think of some "fighting" terms that we use in winning the weight loss battle?

I'm wondering if it would be more helpful to think of it all in more peaceful terms, rather than battle terms, but perhaps this just always will be a fight and we need to look at it that way. But will I always be struggling instead of enjoying the journey to healthy living?

    What do you think??

Can I calmly and quietly float into my new lifestyle and enjoy the peace that comes with success instead of gritting my teeth and struggling through??

    Good day!
  • Well, my first thoughts are that when I go to the gym, I don't "calmly and quietly" burn through the calories to rid myself of the fat (I wish I could!)...at the same time, nor do I struggle...I just keep working at it, consistently making the best choices for my health and wellness, "plugging away" as it were...

I like your writing style, by the way.
  • That's a great question. The words we tell ourselves have a big impact.

    Gaining self esteem
    Embracing goals
Working towards a new life and better health
    Getting to know ourselves
    Replacing habits
    Learning about nutrition and exercise
    Supporting others to lose weight
    Enjoying healthier eating
    Learning patience and self-forgiveness

I like thinking of it as a learning process more than a battle.
