SEPTEMBER Non-Scale Victories

I hope no one minds me starting this thread. I absolutely loved reading it last month, and even though I don't have a non-scale victory yet for this month I wanted to get this thread started so I can read everyone elses. Your successes are so motivating! :)

I have THREE! ;)

#1. Cleaned out my closet recently and I have two big garbage bag full of clothes to get rid of, some I will donate to st. vinnies, the dressier stuff that is still in really good shape I'm going to take to a consigment shop, like my two piece linen skirt set. Love it, but it is too big now and will barely stay up on me. (Was the outfit I wore to my best friends wedding in 2002. I wasn't a bridesmaid because she had her sisters and her DH's sisters as bridesmaids-AWWWW)

#2. Black pull-over cotton hoodie I've had since high school fits me again! I love this thing. I'll wear it in my next progess pics. :D

#3. Now able to pull up and zip and fasten my pre-pregnancy jeans. (Can I wear them comfortably, heck no! Not yet anyway, but look for them in a future progress picture.) And by pre-pregnancy I'm talkin' about the jeans I wore before I had baby #1. Last time I wore them was in 1997!

DH was rubbing my shoulders the other day and made the comment, "You feel so BONEY". Not in a too thin way, of course. More like we've been married almost 10 years and it has been a looooong time since I showed any signs of actually having bones way.

Oh, and this one involves a scale but isn't about the scale. I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday and for the first time that I can remember my palms weren't sweating when the nurse told me to step on the scale, I didn't feel embarrassed, and I wasn't worried that someone would walk by and catch a glimpse. In fact, I almost HOPED that someon WOULD! It felt really great realizing that I don't feel shame because of my weight anymore.

Great NSV's girls!

I am happy today because I had to buy some new gym pants after one of the instructors at the gym called me 'the incredible shrinking woman' and said my pants were far too big for me. Anyway, I actually braved it and looked in a regular store - not a specialist plus size store. I knew this shop went up to size 22 (US 18), but didn't know how generous they cut their clothes. Anyway, they only had a size 20 (US 16), but I thought I'd try them on anyway as they are loose jersey with an elasticated waist. Well, I am happy to report that they fit perfectly! These are my first size 20 pants in years! I also bought new underwear in size 18 (US 14) - so I am VERY happy!

Love Amanda x

When I stopped in at Wally World Monday nite to pick up kitty food I detoured into the ladies department and tried on regular size 18 pants...

AND THEY FIT!!!
Needless to say, I was thrilled! Such a nice feeling, being able to fit into "regular" sizes for the first time in 7 years.

I haven't posted on this particular thread before but several non scale victories for me (one was at the end of August, but what the heck I will post it anyway) :D

1) On my three day camping trip, I portaged a canoe on my own for 310 m portage and was only slightly tired at the end. This time last year I was having trouble going up and down the stairs because I was so winded. :cheer:

2) On my vacation, I cleaned out my storage closet and closet to get rid of junk around the house. I got rid of tons of pocket books (372) after years of keeping them around and 8 bags of clothing donated to good will. I went shopping the other day and went into to Pennington's (large women's clothing store) and I was down 2 sizes! :cheer:

It's really back in August, but going out to the occasional lunch place near the office and realising that I didn't have to make sure we got a table - yes, we sat in a booth. I didn't have to squeeze in!

A fantastic one today. My sister has always been thinner than me. She lives in Spain at the moment so I've got a load of her old winter clothes in my house, mainly from before she left a couple of years ago. I will admit that she's slimmed down since she started working over there (as a scuba diving instructor, so quite a physical job), but still, I didn't realise I am now the same size as she was when she left.

It's started getting colder here, and most of my jumpers are from around 70lb ago, so I rummaged in her clothes for a jumper. And then I noticed a pair of jeans in the size that I'm currently trying on (I'm on a major hunt for the perfect pair of jeans at the moment). Tried them on, they fit perfectly. I got bolder, and tried a suit, a pair of trousers, a dress and a variety of jumpers.

I now have a whole new wardrobe :D

Awesome YP! New clothes (even your sister's used clothing!) are so cool to have! Congrats!

teapotdynamo 09-16-2005 08:58 AM

Wow, that's a GREAT one YP1, both for the sibling rivalry implications ( ) and for the new wardrobe! Wish I'd wander into a pile of new clothes!!!!

Congrats!

Sometimes I do better....

While grocery shopping Saturday, I passed a display ~ they had boxed kits of sweet things to make using that Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk. I looked at them, picked up the box to make a pound of fudge and put it in my cart. (There have been stressful things going on at home, and I have been struggling.) I thought and started to put it back, but then left it in my cart. I rolled on a few aisles and left the box behind. When I got to the check out, I got a candy bar. I shouldn't have had the candy bar, but I felt a little good that I had chosen a smaller thing and not a whole pound of fudge.

Same day but later, I stopped to get some lunch ~ had a McChicken sandwich ~ did not get the fries. Not totally good, but not as bad as I might have been.

YP1 - that's a great one. I am in the exact same situation right now. My sister currently wears a size 4 but I'm getting really close to a 6. So, I've been able to start trying on some of her older clothes. It's GREAT! Even better is that this summer we were at the pool together and I realized that even at my bigger size I have a few body parts that look a lot better than hers (Yea for weights!). We aren't competetive in the looks department but I have envied her form for some time. It is very motivating to see that I'm actually catching up with the body that I've been chasing since the 11th grade!

And good luck on your hunt for the perfect jeans. I think I've tried on every pair within a 30 mile radius and haven't found a pair yet. But, I'm really short and a lot of the styles out now just aren't very becoming. I'm convinced there is something out there for me though so I'm going to keep on looking till I find them.

YP1 09-16-2005 02:22 PM

I'm worried that the jeans hunt is fundamentally flawed anyway because as soon as I actually find them I'll shrink out of them far too quickly and have to start again. Doh.

When you find the perfect pair, just buy two pairs; one in your current size and the second pair in a smaller size you can shrink into. ;)

BTW, that is so very awesome you are fitting into your sisters clothes!

Hey, isn't your 10K race Sunday, the 18th? :goodluck: Have fun and we'll want to hear all about it!
